Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online: Tim Campbell Interview
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/09/10 11:19:32 AM
Necrons / Tyranids, that's hard do to the heiracrchy or lack there of but I'd make them the FTP races. Change the exp/skill gain to global for all players of that race each player geta vote on an upgrade etc. but limit them in terms of depth. They are afterall the throwaway armies that just keeps giving. |

2 factions - fail. Space Marines, Chaos, eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks, Tau, Necrons.... 2 factions can never be enough Let's not forget the sub factions within the imperium itself. Destined to mediocrity. |

All Points Bulletin: What Went Wrong With APB
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/19/10 6:38:37 PM
What went wrong with APB? Simple. Never develope a game twice. Never sink 2 x dev cycles into 1 game. That's what killed it, combined with poor implementation of core features. I feel sorry for the folks that worked there. Here's hoping they find some work soon. |

If you're looking for a HGL-a-like, try AoC, it has semi twich based combat. Fantasy though, so no blasters =( Alternatively there is FoM and Fallen Earth but they're more standard mmo's. Planetside is another choice but the game is small, upside is the community is solid. Finally on the horizon is Vindictus, again fantasy seeting but combat is looking to be reasonably innovative. Sci-fi is an under valued genre in mmo's. Here's hoping somethign can be done to change the trend. P.S. There's also the upcoming mmo from funcom, which might be right up your street. Forget the name though.... |

Object construction and client data storage.
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 12/31/09 7:33:53 AM
In reading your proposal I see that it has already been achieved by Spore. It has already been done in other games like elite, abliet minus the muliplayer element. procedurally generating planets etc is also being developed by the mmo Infinity. Finally, to look at your proposal for peer to peer multiplay, without a central server means theres no cohesion. Additionally, the block wont be fps it will be cpu usage and storage. basically it wont work but i am happry to be proved wrong. I would suggest you look at the gameslisted above and read up on procedural generation. Onedown side is that if you change the world created the underlying procedure no longer applies. so how do you store the changes? re-generate the procedure to match? this is going to be the kicker depending on your methods. good luck, an interesting post that has caught my eye. |

THQ are making WH40K. Massively have some exclusive screenshots. It will be a squad based mmo. Think DoW/CoH with more pew pew. As for blizzard, no news. |

DAoC was a good game but I hated it as I lived i Europe. As for Bashing it got panned with the Atalantis expansion. I still have fond memories of scaling the walls to steal the goblet of whatever and pegging it away form the rampaging Mithgardian Horde. rofl. |

Even a hardened Nerdarager as myself knows that this is a special game for a younger generation that we oldies will play too. A great idea for a family based MMO game. I have to say being in the fourms there since last year, the game is going to rape my wallet via my kids re-enactment of Oliver! Not to mention the better half, she spends more time on mmo's than I do, abliet their casual ones. .................Please Sir, can I have some more MT/Sub money? Please sir.......Oo |

if Warcraft is the reason for WoW success, why hasnt Warhammer beating out WoW?

Let;'s also mention Diablo, Diablo 2, Starcraft.....need I go on? Then let us look at Gamesworkshop computer games. or let's not as thet are are all shite barring dawn of war1/2 and that is warhammer 40k. The reason WAR isn't a wow killer is because in itself it is massively flawed and secondly has no community or history behind it or similar massivley successful products prior to launch. Any dev looking to make an mmo should make AAA single/mp games first. build up a following, nuture it and build on it then go for an mmo. Then you kill WoW. Simples!

One word. BOLLOCKS. Now for the reason behind the expletive. While you're entitled to your opinion like everyone else, this game is far from exciting, engaging, innovative or compelling. The game is shallow, bland, non-sensical in places and simply has the feel of Guildwars but without engendering a reason for playing. Character creation is really poorly structured, options that should be grouped are separated and hidden from view. Missions are the same a,b,c linear and undynamic. There is nothing to hook you. In 3 days of short 2-3 hours gaming sessions, I find myself wondering what the fuss is about. CoH was and is still a better, deeper and more accessible MMO. Oh and the instancing? MMO with 40 people? WTF? Like I said, this is a case of the New Emporer's Clothes. Game standard MMO in Leggings and Laser Eye beams. Cryptic seem to be the Mr. Hyde to CoH's Dr. Jeckyll. |

How to get past the error on the APB beta apllication page.
General Discussion « All Points Bulletin (APB) 8/15/09 7:08:38 AM
To one and all, If you don't know alreay, you can signup for beta on the apb website. Link www.apb.com/beta-application/ However after filling everything you may get stuck on the "Why you want to be a beta tester for APB" input box. It will give an invalid answer error. So simply avoid any kind of punctuation at the end of the 250 character begging letter lol! Good luck to everyone! And PASS THE WORD!!!

Fallen Earth « Fallen Earth 8/01/09 8:48:48 AM
Sorry folks, This game is tired and boring. (i've been in the beta, fuck the nda, I won't talk about specifics). Wow it's post Apocolyptic! So what, under the hood it's still the same tired format in new clothes. If you're bored of the likes of WoW, War, Aion etcetcetc. then save your money and wait for a sandbox mmo. Eve, for all it's issues is looking like the only real sandbox mmo out there worth looking at.

Which Actors will be in the new Warcraft Movie?

Ron Perlman has to be Thrall. |

Dude, You can get it via steam if you're aft the items or just wait. As with all mmo's the sold out issue disappears after launch. You'll find plenty of copies to pick up when the cancels start rolling in closer to launch. Happens every single time an MMo is launched. you'll be able to pick it up for 17 quid after 6 months from launch. Just need patience. If you're really stuck try hmv or shop2. Happy hunting.

Is all the doom and gloom true? Has any of the QQing subsided?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 6/23/09 5:34:38 PM
Well for my 2 penneth, This Game is on it's last legs. Even the new update hasn't caused a real upsurge in server pops. Bottom line, I will be cancelling again this month. after re-subbing to see how things were after quiting 3 months ago. RvR is a joke, PVE is dead and there are simply not enough players to make the game last. I had such high hopes for a decent GW game. I should have known better. The game is fundementally flawed due to the levelling = access to content design. PVE level, RVR level.....it'd just the wrong mechanic and the complete lack of sandbox elements has turned it into CS for MMO addicts. They pop in for a quick senario, a keep raid then are gone.....off playing something, anything else as far as I can see. MMO's are currently undergoing a period of Fusion design, similar to cooking. Unfortunately we have only 1 or 2 *** Michelin Star Chefs and hundreds of kebab shops selling their wares. The result, constant food poisoning. |

Bugs aside, which game is more fun? AoC or WAR?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 9/30/08 2:26:41 AM
Warhammer is better. AoC will forwever be les than promised. Warhammer has massive battles....I mean 100+ I know I was there. No lag to speak of (I had none). Warhammer has no lack of content. Warhammer has keeps that work. Warhammer is a team game, Aoc is pretty much a solo experience. Warhammer has meaningful pvp. i,e it affects you asa player and the game world. AoC RIP, you were prettier than a thai whore and were just as riddled with bugs. All I can tell you is that when I shout For the Emporer, For Sigmar! People join in the charge and banter, unlike AoC, even on non rp servers. I has a real tangible backstory beyond Howards books.
