Problem with cash-shop-mmogs is they're all the same: medieval with manga/anime graphics. I enjoy Anarchy Online because it's not medieval, and 9Dragons because its graphics are very good and not cartoony (though I love WoW's style). It's not the cash-shop, it's the game itself. |

From worst to bad: 1) Second Life - I know it's not a game but it's graphics and movement made me sick.
2) Fury - is that an MMOG?! No graphics scaling - it's either trash or ultra-mode; weird running+turning; almost impossible to download. 3) Final Fantasy XI - grind fest; no effing manual or tutorial. 4) Sword of the New World - awesome graphics but ridiculously easy. 5) Matrix Online - the atmosphere is awesome but it's boring and there's no challenge. From those I'd only try again MxO if there was miracle revamp/update. |

Beta testing? You really think most of the people in any Beta are there to test?? They want the game for free (and the edge that come with it), that's for sure. They don't want anything to do with writing bug reports... Beta testing has clearly become a means of increasing the hype in MMOGs. As for AoC, it's clear its releasing for PC as unfinished as it was, was really the Beta testing for the XBox 360. Alll the people who spent their money on the unfinished product are actually beta "testing" AoC for when it launches in the Xbox 360... |

Fung Wan Online. I had a blast playing it. I guess it was the open beta times. I loved it - first virtual world I experienced, martial arts, soloable, beautiful scenery... I tried going back but it seems to be all in Chinese now... Anyway, I'm more inclined to try other oldies like DAoC or AC when I take a break from my main MMOGs. |

Seeing the Flash running up a building and Hal Jordan flying was "OMFG"! But then the backgrounds and sound effects remind me so much of CoX... I'm sticking by the possibility of being a hero or villain and fighting against or alongside some of the great super icons of American comics. Commenting on the character animation, I do hope what we've seen is just the early stages of development... |

But not quite sure if Champions Online will be a game for me, Though I really enjoy and have enjoyed superhero's since childhood, but somehow with MMO's like CoH i could never identify to be a actual superhero cause everyone is one. When i picture myself a superhero MMORPG, It would be more like how I see superhero's, for example to be a superhero you also need to have 2 identity's one is You the superhero, the other is YOU the regular Joe/Jane, where the Superhero gets to do Superhero stuff Well maybe or maybe not you get the idea what i would like to see in a superhero MMORPG, and i could go on with idea's about how it could be done, but i have to say i have not really looked into Champoinsonline, so what ever i just said might not even fit in it's setting. But what i said is something I still hope will become some day a new type of Superhero MMORPG. Doesn't mean that CoH isn't a good game cause I am sure it's a fine game for those who play it, just not what i expect from a superhero MMORPG, but then again I'm just that Niche type of gamer wanting niche things which I keep seeing is definitly not what the masses want. So due tto this i'm not sure if Champions online would be that game for me, I will be looking into it some more. That's exactly what I think - that City would have much more depth if we could play alter egos - our normal selves. In fact, when they announced inventions, I thought they'd implement something like Peter Parker taking pictures of super heroes and selling them and/or Clark Kent buying them, writing an article and reselling it... But I guess everybody is too afraid to go too far from the WoW model... even in a super hero-themed MMORPG. |

So, what do I have to do if I like EQ2? Just pay the first month and that's it - I have all the expansions released until now for rest of my life? Like SWG, that you just start paying the monthly subscription and don't have to buy the game? |

If you had read the EULA, you'd have seen that sharing your account is forbidden. What you did used account sharing: you allowed someone else to access your account. Don't be mad at them: just buy a new account and have fun! |

Lol, I played for only 3 hours and 5 minutes when I first trialed EQ2! I do believe what everybody loves in EQ2 must be outside the trial island... In 13h I'll know... |

Hi. More than a year ago I gave EQ2 a try using the trial. I played a while (loved the fishing) but didn't like it. Now that I'm trying Legends of Norrath to get ready for the SWG CCG (Champions of the Force), I'm growing interested in EQ2 again. But I'd like to see the real world, not get stuck on a newbie isle... I remember now I downloaded only the Trial of the Isle (or something), not the entire game, but what I'd really like to see is the real world of EQ2... Is there anyway to do it? Perhaps not with a trial but with one of those buddy keys?? And does anyone know if the "pending" status of the trial I had from EQ2 on my Account means that I could play the trial of the isle again for some days (I don't want to download it all again just to have the client tell me I have to subscribe the game...)? Thanks! |

Originally posted by Enigma Why I play it? It's because it's Star Wars. If it wasn't I'd have quit about the 3rd day of the trial. Having met Darth Vader during the anniversary celebration was awesome, having my little silly R5 droid following me around is great, hanging out in Jaba's Palace just for the sake of it is awesome, protecting your outpost in Corellia from the Rebel scum is awesome, watching Jedi battles (as improbable as it would be in the time the game is settled) is awesome, adventuring in dangerous Dathomir is awesome and so on. Wanting to be a Bounty Hunter helped too, as SWG is the only game I know where you can hunt players down. The space battles added something to it, as I was a fan of the X-Win/Tie Fighter series (though the controls are not that good). And the upcoming Collectible Card Game will surely add to the fun (I like CCGs a lot) - specially because the other online CCG from SOE, Legends of Norrath, is fun and great good looking. One thing: there's no game to buy these days: you just buy a month ("subscribe") and start having all access to the game (depending on the subscription offers, you might get all expansions). It's great to know someone that TRIES MMOGs, not just plays for 5 minutes and spends the rest of his life ranting bout how stupid game 'X' is, without having even read a newbie guide or game manual. If you like sci-fi, perhaps you'd like to try EVE or Anarchy Online - AO is really interesting, and although the graphics are outdated, the ladscapes are awesome. |

Originally posted by D3mis3 Welcome. I started playing some 4 months ago. I checked the forums before to choose a server that was populated and that had characteristics that would appeal to me (no open pvp, English language). So, population wise, Bria is great. I also tried Starsider and it's great, specially experimenting with the roleplay. I hear there are some empty servers though. And I had the luck to find a nice and helping guild. Game world size-wise, it's awesome: no barriers (invisible walls) or instancing (not against it though) AND you can go up the highest mountain (I like it because it adds to the immersion); the worlds (and moons) are huge! That being said, one world is instanced and full of invisible walls - Kashyyyk (I don't know about Mustafar); the landscape loads as you move but at a SLOW rate - that means enemies and mobs, houses, vegetation and geographical formations appear as you move. Doing so at a high speed is problematic as you can't find enemies and as you lag through loading Player Cities. and it breaks all immersion having trees and grass appearing less that 30 feet away from you. And the textures of mountains change as you move too. Creativity? Nice, though if you've seen the movies you've seen most of the important locations. And don't rush into Theeds palace to see the Queen or something: the interior is lacking in furniture and interesting NPCs. Note: space is beautiful! End game? Yeah, talk about END game: thing only start to happen at lvl 90 (but you can start having fun right away in space). As you have 90 lvls, finding someone your lvl to duel might be hard. To enjoy the fights for posts, you MUST choose Empire or Rebellion - so if you're a Bounty Hunter like me, there's no way to remain a free lancer (unless you settle with casual PVP and dungeoneering): you have to align yourself (that goes for the battle of Restuss as well). Besides doing epic lvl dungeons and completing collections, there's not much more to it (no crafting, as it's restricted to Traders). I'm not going to lie to you - it's not the best game, BUT it is Star Wars. I'm a fan, and playing in that universe, online with friends, is awesome. If you like the movies, get out of Tansari Station, get your vehicle in Eisley and give it a shot. If you like the game until you finish Tatooine's part of the Legacy Quest, then you may be able to endure until lvl 45-50 when it gets easier to lvl up and then enjoy the "end content": aligning youserlf with a faction can be fun, and doing all the other things I mentioned with your guild can be rewarding. Besides, you can always use the other slot on your server to make a Trader to make things (and credits) for your main toon! If you want help, send me a Private Message here in mmorpg.com! |

Welcome back. I've been playing for some 4 months and my subscription gave me all expansions but Mustafar. You don't need Kash expansion to be happy, though it seems people like it to gain XP after lvl ~45 (when the Legacy quest ends). Perhaps one might be able to gain levels there as its missions start around lvl 20-30 if I'm not mistaken. Kash doesn't seem to be a planet preferred for end content as I don't see my guildmates organizing too many groups to go there... I might be mistaken though... Anyway, I don't like Kash because it's not open like the other planets - you have invisible walls everywhere, can't go up hills and have to keep unlocking stupid gates through quests to move around - so if your team has to go somewhere that you haven't done the quest for, you're screwed. But the invisible walls piss me off. Now Musty seems to be important for end content - I'm gonna buy that expansion as soon as I start grouping with the high lvls of my guild. I jst hope it's not like Kash... So, if you don't have a high lvl, just have fun, find a populated server (check the official forums), roll out a new toon to get the feel of the game as it is today, find a busy guild and enjoy! |
