Lol, I played for only 3 hours and 5 minutes when I first trialed EQ2! I do believe what everybody loves in EQ2 must be outside the trial island... In 13h I'll know...

Excellent! Gonna download everything right now!! Thanks a bunch.

Hi. More than a year ago I gave EQ2 a try using the trial. I played a while (loved the fishing) but didn't like it.  Now that I'm trying Legends of Norrath to get ready for the SWG CCG (Champions of the Force), I'm growing interested in EQ2 again. But I'd like to see the real world, not get stuck on a newbie isle...

I remember now I downloaded only the Trial of the Isle (or something), not the entire game, but what I'd really like to see is the real world of EQ2... Is there anyway to do it? Perhaps not with a trial but with one of those buddy keys??

And does anyone know if the "pending" status of the trial I had from EQ2 on my Account means that I could play the trial of the isle again for some days (I don't want to download it all again just to have the client tell me I have to subscribe the game...)?

Thanks!

Guess all the SWG post-CU/NGE hate is turning you into a Troller... Remember the fear->anger->hate->suffering chain??

Ever read Nietzsche? "When you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back at you." ?

This is the first and ONLY mmo that I have ever played that actually gets WORSE as the years progress. If the gameplay gets any dumbed down I minus well be playing Sonic the Hedgehog with the infinite life cheat on.

Im really trying to be open about SWG since its been a couple of years of playing it but good lord, how do people play this for 5 straight years like a couple people here have been doing? What in the world do you guys do to like this game? I would like to know your secrets because Im trying my damndest to like it and it's just not clicking.

Why I play it? It's because it's Star Wars. If it wasn't I'd have quit about the 3rd day of the trial.

Having met Darth Vader during the anniversary celebration was awesome, having my little silly R5 droid following me around is great, hanging out in Jaba's Palace just for the sake of it is awesome, protecting your outpost in Corellia from the Rebel scum is awesome, watching Jedi battles (as improbable as it would be in the time the game is settled) is awesome, adventuring in dangerous Dathomir is awesome and so on.

Wanting to be a Bounty Hunter helped too, as SWG is the only game I know where you can hunt players down.

The space battles added something to it, as I was a fan of the X-Win/Tie Fighter series (though the controls are not that good).

And the upcoming Collectible Card Game will surely add to the fun (I like CCGs a lot) - specially because the other online CCG from SOE, Legends of Norrath, is fun and great good looking.

One thing: there's no game to buy these days: you just buy a month ("subscribe") and start having all access to the game (depending on the subscription offers, you might get all expansions).

It's great to know someone that TRIES MMOGs, not just plays for 5 minutes and spends the rest of his life ranting bout how stupid game 'X' is, without having even read a newbie guide or game manual.

If you like sci-fi, perhaps you'd like to try EVE or Anarchy Online - AO is really interesting, and although the graphics are outdated, the ladscapes are awesome.

Population?

Game World Size / Creativity?

End Game?

Content?

PvP?

Welcome.

I started playing some 4 months ago.

I checked the forums before to choose a server that was populated and that had characteristics that would appeal to me (no open pvp, English language).

So, population wise, Bria is great. I also tried Starsider and it's great, specially experimenting with the roleplay. I hear there are some empty servers though.

And I had the luck to find a nice and helping guild.

Game world size-wise, it's awesome: no barriers (invisible walls) or instancing (not against it though) AND you can go up the highest mountain (I like it because it adds to the immersion); the worlds (and moons) are huge! That being said, one world is instanced and full of invisible walls - Kashyyyk (I don't know about Mustafar); the landscape loads as you move but at a SLOW rate - that means enemies and mobs, houses, vegetation and geographical formations appear as you move. Doing so at a high speed is problematic as you can't find enemies and as you lag through loading Player Cities. and it breaks all immersion having trees and grass appearing less that 30 feet away from you. And the textures of mountains change as you move too.

Creativity? Nice, though if you've seen the movies you've seen most of the important locations. And don't rush into Theeds palace to see the Queen or something: the interior is lacking in furniture and interesting NPCs.

Note: space is beautiful!

End game? Yeah, talk about END game: thing only start to happen at lvl 90 (but you can start having fun right away in space). As you have 90 lvls, finding someone your lvl to duel might be hard. To enjoy the fights for posts, you MUST choose Empire or Rebellion - so if you're a Bounty Hunter like me, there's no way to remain a free lancer (unless you settle with casual PVP and dungeoneering): you have to align yourself (that goes for the battle of Restuss as well). Besides doing epic lvl dungeons and completing collections, there's not much more to it (no crafting, as it's restricted to Traders).

I'm not going to lie to you - it's not the best game, BUT it is Star Wars. I'm a fan, and playing in that universe, online with friends, is awesome.

If you like the movies, get out of Tansari Station, get your vehicle in Eisley and give it a shot. If you like the game until you finish Tatooine's part of the Legacy Quest, then you may be able to endure until lvl 45-50 when it gets easier to lvl up and then enjoy the "end content": aligning youserlf with a faction can be fun, and doing all the other things I mentioned with your guild can be rewarding. Besides, you can always use the other slot on your server to make a Trader to make things (and credits) for your main toon!

Welcome back. I've been playing for some 4 months and my subscription gave me all expansions but Mustafar.

You don't need Kash expansion to be happy, though it seems people like it to gain XP after lvl ~45 (when the Legacy quest ends). Perhaps one might be able to gain levels there as its missions start around lvl 20-30 if I'm not mistaken. Kash doesn't seem to be a planet preferred for end content as I don't see my guildmates organizing too many groups to go there... I might be mistaken though... Anyway, I don't like Kash because it's not open like the other planets - you have invisible walls everywhere, can't go up hills and have to keep unlocking stupid gates through quests to move around - so if your team has to go somewhere that you haven't done the quest for, you're screwed. But the invisible walls piss me off.

Now Musty seems to be important for end content - I'm gonna buy that expansion as soon as I start grouping with the high lvls of my guild. I jst hope it's not like Kash...

So, if you don't have a high lvl, just have fun, find a populated server (check the official forums), roll out a new toon to get the feel of the game as it is today, find a busy guild and enjoy!

Well, I'd sure play a game based on the SWG pre-CU/NGE - just because everybody talks so good about those times.

But the present day SWG does need the SW part (answering to your topic question) - if it wasn't SW, I'd have quit by the 3rd day of the trial (I'm already 4 months now! )

I'm not a pre-Cu/NGE vet. That having been said, I agree with everything! Welcome back!

Now, if only they improved the interface, it'd make a huge difference to the game experience...

Do I care about game graphics? Yes.

It's the first thing I see in a game, before gameplay, fun, commands. I remember trying Anarchy Online some 2 years ago. The outdated graphics made the other problems I had with the game much worse, and quickly I dropped it.

But it's not just textures - developers have to know what to do with them. Being a man in RL, female characters have to be sexy; armors and clothes must be varied; foes have to be original and different from each other (Korean MMOGs tend to fail on those last two items...).

Once I gave it a try but decided to stick to my other MMOGs. Now with this cheap promotion, I'm thinking of buying it - I know AO is having great improvements in the near future.

Where did you read there were 30 days free for vets? How long must one be away from the game to be eligible?

[Player from Bria]

I sure would love to play the game pre-CU/NGE but as a non hardcore gamer, I have fun in it the way it is today - I'm a fan of SW, that's 95% of the reason I play it.

I checked Lord Vader's hourly visit to Theed and found it awesome! I went to see Leia's visit in Coronet and it wasn't so amazing; besides, the Rebels seemed a bunch of kids using macros to call and store their broken vehicles, disturbing lots of people with the explosion sounds and screen shakes. I signed for the Empire soon after and am having fun controlling key points in Naboo, Corellia. I look forward to a Restuss battle!

If someone decides to try the trial, send me a PM here in mmorpg.com - I'll be glad to introduce you to SWG!

I've heard Vanguard is hot nowadays - I myself am going to give it a try as soon as possible. It seems as sandbox and old-school as a mmog can be these days.

About teamup, try City of Heroes - it's group oriented and original.

I've been playing RPGs (pen&paper) for almost 15 years now. Played many kinds of games and systems, and my faithful group has had its share of homemade systems.

RPG is about freedom - to be what you want, do you what you want. If we find a rule we don't agree with, we change it. If something in the story book isn't reasonable, we change it.

And if the new rules for D&D (for this discussion) don't please us, will bend them, change them, scrap them if needed. Heck, gimme the first edition of D&D and we'll have a blast. Gimme one die and we'll still have a blast.

Discussing systems is pointless - what matters is your imagination. Have fun!

Now that's a fair and good review, unlike MMORPG's "1-20" review.

I've read some criticism here in the forums over MMORPG.com favoring one game or another...

I think the reviews should move from the first person narrative to an impartial third person. Enough with "my opinion", "my experience", "I didn't have problems with that" and so on.

Take longer to review a game if needed, take more than one reviewer to review one game, but enough with reviews that SEEM biased, as this one.

I haven't played AoC - waiting for it to mature, but I read the first post of the recents avanlanche of complaints since its "beta release". During the review, there are many points that sound as if the reviewer is trying make up for or explain and put into perspective some of the problems appointed by some of the players.

ROFL.

It's been a long while since you've been to a populated server in SWG, huh? You have no idea what you're talking about.

Now 'meatlump" is shameful. And "Themepark" too.
