Is TOR really a "next gen" MMO?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/06/11 2:03:16 PM
People who dont see ToR potential do not understand the MMO genre at all. Tor in its current state is much further along then WoW was at launch. It has more features and foundations set then any MMO to be released in the last 4 years. People need to understand that MMOs need to be released in stages, first the foundation of the game has to be perfect, all the expected features should be in place and flawless, which is what Bioware has done, they have a solid foundation laid for them to add WHATEVER nexgen features they want. This time next year, SWTOR will be the one to beat, i will put money on that. |

Are Voice Overs destined to be the new "must have" feature, or just a gimmick?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/05/11 10:49:49 AM
It is hilarious, The mmo genre has degraded the need for telling a story so much that people actually believe it is a hinderance when the game actually has one. I assure you all of oyu people who are against story in an MMO, forget that RPG is at the end of that acryonym. And you same people who would rather not have it because it "SLows you down" havent played the game or prefer to grind in game. Ive done situatiations in game, where i have completely talked myself into a fight, out of a fight, talked other parties to fight each other, all netting the same xp, taking the time to enjoy the story doesnt slow you down, it adds. You start to give a shit about what happens in game, which no other MMO can claim to do. But if you are deadset on hating the Voice overs, then, you reserve the right to smash spacebar, use it, you are only depriving yourself. But just like how single player RPG like Skyrim are now 100% voice over, when in the past they used to be 100% text, MMOs will be walking the same road, you think blizzards next MMO wont be 100% voiced? Get used to the cutscenes. |

It's Tabula Rasa all over again...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/02/11 12:54:50 PM
Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Good thing everyone bailed on WoW during its beta test eh... i mean we all know how that turned out.... The difference between this game and Tabula rasa is, Bioware/EA have the resources to make this game succeed. And this game is nowhere near Tabula rasa, the mere comparrision is offensive. The only glaring issue with the game is the lack of character customization, all the core elements are there, the UI thing is not gamebreaking especially since they said they will be allowing player mods post launch. The people on these forums... seem to go out of their WoW spread negativity about thsi game, its as though they hope it fails. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mirrored Classes

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mirrored Classes
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/11 8:27:48 AM
Those of you who are against mirriored classes, are the minority, plain and simple. Mirrored classes,e specailly from the pvp side is a good thing, it means people can choose to play waht they want to play. So every class is unique, i guess i can only play one faction, i hope my friends are playing that faction, i hope my guild wants to play that faction. I dont get all this sudden hate on mirriored classes, since when is it a bad thing? Name one mmo, just one, that doesnt have mirrored classes. |

Why did they not just make KOTOR 3?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/28/11 7:34:14 PM
Nonsense, if they made kotor 3 it wouldnt have anywhere near the depth of this game, do you think you could play 8 full story lines with kotor 3? Have a chance to interact with thousands of other people?
The fact of the matter is this, you can play the game on 8 different characters and experience 8 very fufiling stories, and you can do it all on your own. There is zero forced grouping when it comes to the main story line, absolutely none, you can go through the entire game not not speak to a single other person.
This complaint that they shouldve just done kotor 3 is the most asinine thing ive read on the swtor subject, the truth of the matter is, this is better, MMOs are the future, and i assure you, bioware wont be making another single player game for a long time to come. They want their game to be a living entity, and that is something you cannot achieve with a single player title. |

Its only done in the noob zones, and it has to be done, do you understand how rdiclous it would be to have 5000 people in one zone all fighting for the same spawns as they fight their way to the real game?
Sharding is a tool to stave off player frustration, it has to be done. after launch i highly doubt you will see any sharding on any of the starter planets after people have had time to spread out. |

Extreme voice acting, Not an mmo in my OPINION.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/22/11 3:45:52 PM
So an rpg with voice acting doesnt qualify as an MMO... You wrote a lot of text but clearly you didnt think about that statement before you made it.
THe problem with past MMORPGs are they took the RP out of the game, so it just became a massive online game, with no story and no purpuse besids pwning other players, not unlike a mindless fps game. Now that bioware has done this level of story telling it will change the genre, trust me.
Once you actually play the game, like i have you will see that this level of cinimatic story telling adds so much to the game, that you will miss not having it in past games. Or at the very least get you to shut the fuck up, because complaining about too much voice acting is ridiculous. |

SO glad that the NDA is lifted...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/21/11 10:07:27 AM
I get that same feeling when playing, people may say theyw ill only do their class quest but when you see how they did every quest in this game, and how they all run into each other, you will feel likw you are watching the movie of you, of hour your charcater lived in the universe of TOR, you dont feel like acommo foot soldier thats for sure. Or some hired interchangable thug. |

EA Issues Game Bans for Forum "Misconduct"
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/18/11 1:31:28 AM
Originally posted by Distopia So, i spend 200 bucks on games, and because i say a few harsh words to some weak willed person, maybe yourself, i should be banned from playing them, not just banned from the forums, something that is non essencial and optional but banned from the product i paid for?
That is a good business decision, im sure you will retain repeat customers with that policy. |

Swtor Origin and Headstart YUCK!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/09/11 9:11:51 AM
Originally posted by Unlight Yeah but you are wrong and you dont.
I actually own battlfiedl 3, i dont even have origin open, i have battlelog as my homepage and i play the game from that. Ive been in the swtor beta test weekend and they have their own client, while it does put the game in origin, you dont need to open it at all, you can just you the seperate launcher.
All you people bitching about origin, like i siad, simply want something to be angry about, because unlike steam, origin does not force you to use it to play their games. Yeah you need to associate the cd key with origin, but you dont ned it to run the game after the game is installed. |

Swtor Origin and Headstart YUCK!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/09/11 5:48:54 AM
Originally posted by zevni78 I dont get it, why is EA seen as the fucking devil for wanting to make more money off THEIR IP? EA is a bigger company with much more resources then steam, why the fuck do they need to keep any of their product on steam? They only reason steam exists is because no other company felt it was nesssary to make a program like steam on pc, now they do, lets pull all the major devolopers away from steam and see which will survive the fall out. I highly doubt Steam(valve) would be able to survive with just their games and in the grand scheme of things, origin might be buggy as fuck now, but i highly doubt this time next year it will have any trouble snuffing out steam, if that was their goal.
Their goal is to simply say, hey, you like this ea game, check out all of these ea games. And origin doesnt only sell pc games, it sells and ships xbox, and ps3 games, it uses the cloud system, the program itself is still in beta, it says that clearly, but whatever you think about it, EA is entitled to make their own program, its not greed its business.
I dont know why people think EA should pay steam to host their game when they can do it themselves. |

You people really never visit the official forums eh...
{mod edit} because the devs already said you dont need origin to play the digital, retail, beta, or any version of swtor. |

TOR needs just under 17% sub retention to be "substantially profitable". How hard is that?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/08/11 3:11:43 PM
Lol i dont think any serious SWTOR follower is worried about this game retaining 17% of its players. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Making the Switch?
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/26/11 9:26:38 AM
There is something fascinating about cheapskates who complain because they dont want to pay extra. Digital version is 79.99, the ce is 149.99 A difference of 70 bucks.
Now ask yourself, is it worth paying 70 bucks, yes, buy it, no? then dont. But if you choose no, dont bitch and call the company evil. I find it hard to believe that in the 6 month timeframe that the CE was announced you cant spare the extra 70 bucks. |
