Use this one: http://launch.soe.com/installer/Vanguard_setup.exe It's from here: http://www.soe.com/getthegame/ It's the "Reinstall" option underneath the game link "Returning User?" option. This is a 5.3GB download of the main game, not just the island trial. As it's an exe file, I would strongly suggest going to the SOE website and getting it from there directly though. Hope it helps. |

The server is up! Fingers crossed. |

Just been reading through the MO forum posts over on the SV forums about the downtime. Oh boy, they are not happy MO bunnies! Interestingly though. No one seems to be discussing the real issue. Why no update from SV. Absolutely no information is forthcoming from SV. If they were to update the forums with info, it might calm things down a bit. |

Still down. Still no further announcements from SV. Do they actually expect people to pay for this level of service?!? Not even an update on what's *not* happening? I guess this is actually useful information though. I now know that SV don't provide any form of server backup or server room maintenance during the games busiest period (weekends). I didn't get to play the game for more than a couple of hours, but it was a useful trial period after all. :-) |

Losing the weekend play time sucks. I'm wondering just how much of this 14 days free trial time I'm actually going to get to spend in game? I lost the first three days (evenings) to server down time, and now the weekend to further server down time. So far the game gets 2/10 for playability. |

Not like a weekend evening might be prime time game playing time or anything. Not like (other) people aren't paying for them to maintain the servers or anything. Sigh. No matter how much you try to like (and play) this game.... |

Today went a lot better! I randomly stumbled upon a very helpful player who spent ages showing me the ropes and getting me back on my feet. Don't believe the hype about everyone being a rabid murderer. There are good people in MO. The game definetly has 'something', it's just that it struggles so hard under the constant graphical glitching and server resets. I've only played for just under two days (casual evening play), and I can see why people like this game. |

So... Finally got to play MO. Game started with me standing 'somewhere', I don't know where - as it was night time and pitch black so all I could see were the stars up above (quite nice looking). I stumbled around in the dark until I (literally) bumped into a merchant (I think). No lanterns or burning torches in the starter area for night time... What is that about? Strange and bewildering first experience. I died twice, neither time at the hands of another player. First time, I got stuck in a rock and couldn't figure out how to get unstuck - so suicided. I appeared next to a priest (?) in a completely different location, with no people, animals or much of anything with about 10% of my hit points. I wondered off looking for civilisation and got lost. Second time, I fell of a steep drop while trying to find my bearings. This time I had to 'find' the priest (?) in the etherworld. This took a while and I ended somewhere else, even more remote. I now have about 2% of my original hit points. At least this time there were animals around (pigs, boars and wolfs). I stumbled upon a palisaded town (I think), there was no apparent way in, so I'm not sure. I was accosted by a passing stranger. I say accosted ... somehow I have been lumbered with a pet horse. I didn't agree to the pet or even start or engage in conversation, they just dumped it on me as they passed by. How does that work, you don't even get the chance to turn it down?! So, now I have a pet horse that I have no idea how to use, and the bugger just follows me around. I have a couple of questions: How do I get my hit points back? How do I ride the (pet) horse? Where do I get a torch/lantern from, as I 'm dreading the next nightfall? Is there a list of text line commands? |

Personally, I hope this game is good, I've done a whole lot of waiting since starting my trial account. |

Would be nice if I could try it. Still waiting for them to put the server back up! |

Oh well, that didn't last long ... or get far. "version mismatch" apparently. Thanks for the info Rohn. I'd just spotted this on the MO forums as well. I wish the loading screen was a little more helpful then just freezing with "version mismatch" as the only info given. Jeez, I thought I'd downloaded the wrong version of the game or something. The info on their website and on the forums seems to be from yesterday. Any idea how much longer it's going to be down?
Not that I'm eager to try it out nor nothing. |

Well, my trial game finished downloading at some ungodly hour this morning, and I'm now going to sign up for the trial account and go off in search of Rocket Pigs. Wish me luck. |

Just downloading the trial of MO and have been browsing the forums (as you do). I spotted this post over on the official forums: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/62889-mmmmmm-1st-impressions.html ... and as I don't have an account as of yet, and can't post on there, I thought I would ask on here. Just how broken and unfinished is this game? I mean, rocket pigs, really?!? Bear in mind, I'm used to Vanguard, so "broken and unfinished" has a slightly different meaning to me. |

take Vanguard away from SOE, they should not own it !

Had a third party production team purchased V:SOH, they would have had an absolute investment in the titles future. If it failed, they would lose future income and their jobs. As it is, SOE just reassigned the developers to EQII and future projects. It's a shame. V:SOH has a lot of untapped potential that another production company could have taken far. Hey ho. |

Originally posted by Redemp ... without SoE you wouldn't have played a working version of Vanguard and it wouldn't be running today.
... or maybe: without $0£ getting involved, it would have eventually been purchased by a smaller, independent production team (or anyone but SOE), and they may have taken more time and may have been willing to put in more advertising effort and perhaps could have made it into the popular and vibrant MMORPG it deserves to be? But as they say, if wishes were fishes... |

Was it the quests that did VG in?

+1. The game is playable as it stands now (mostly). The quests are no better or worse than any other games quests, but who are you going to play with? Very few new players are joining Vanguard anymore, in fact, most are leaving. Everyone knows it's a dead game that is only bearly being kept on life support by $0£. One dev, seriously?!? Who wants to play a game that is charging $14.99/month, that has no future but to remain stagnant and undeveloped? It's a real pity. It's a great world, it could have been one of the best MMORPG's ever. Shame on SOE. |

Servers say "medium", but it feels like "low". However, it's a good quality kind of low. |
