The commentators at the #1 rated Autoshow in the world, Top Gear, made a car. Its the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust. It's truly a funny car. Here is Autocar's Review of the vehicle. |

The difference is Image Quality between an IPS and a TN Panel. With TN Panel its limited to 6 bit color. With an IPS you get a full range of color and you don't lose the bright levels when looking at it from the sides. An IPS is ideal in content creation like in Graphics design. For gaming a TN Panel with an LED backlight would probably be more ideal because it doesn't cost as much, and has a better refresh rate and contrast ratio. |

You serious? This has been widely publicized for 2 years. |

Cannot beat the Dell U2410. Its an IPS display with a large contrast ratio and descent size in your price range. If you were spending thousands, then there are other options. |

Sony's business model in consoles is to release a new one every 6 years. So if you are an early adopter you should be good 6 years in the future. The minor edits are more in-line with cost savings and getting into niche markets. So it makes sense that they would be minor releases with almost no changes since its the same platform as older consoles. Can you imagine what would happen if Sony released Moore's Law based consoles every year. It would suck not only for the customer but also for the developer having to match new specs. |

The Reality of Communism in Practice
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/28/09 6:17:20 PM
I don't think where we are going is Communism, however I think it will have the same effects. The more government takes control of a sector in the economy, the more a few people become more powerful. That's just the simple truth of expanding government. You are putting more trust in a couple people rather then letting the people as a whole regulate themselves with the rights we have to counteract negative influences. The bad part of a federal government micro-managing business is that they are large and don't really see the small influences of localities. So they thus have bad management and cost overruns. Also the bad part about it is that it rewards people for bribing politicians. The more corrupt your business is the more you can get government in your favor. The problem with large governments is that they are more corruptable. |

I think you are looking at the wrong reviews. In most reviews unless completely biased has the HD5770 performing about 5% worse then the HD4870. The GTX260 doesn't perform similarly to the HD4870. The HD4870 blows that card out of the water. The GTX275 is more in line with the performance of the HD4870. There is no direct competitor to the GTX260. It performs in between the HD4870 and HD4850 leaning closer to being in line with the HD4850. My point on Tesselation is that its controllable, you can set it to 0 for the 100 poly object and have no difference. Its an option that allows developers to cover all modern video cards efficiently. Also if you are running with DX9 limitations on a DX11 card, you are going to be churning it out at over 480 FPS. You can take the hit by increasing the poly count, especially with ATI since their cards are designed for large poly counts. I really fail to see why you are cringing in the face of technological advancement. The point of DX11 isn't that it does pretty things. Its a rendering API, its about how its code executes and what it can support. With that said, adoption in DX11 should be much higher then any DX API in the past because its backwards compatible. You aren't losing anything but supporting it where you do with DX10, or DX9. |

Hardware « General Discussion 11/28/09 5:23:34 PM
As it is right now the only price range nVidia is reasonable is $107~$120. Its outperformed in every price category right now. As far as PhysX is concerned, it will be a non-issue soon enough as both companies have adopted open physics GPU support in Compute Shaders and Open CL. No developer in their right mind would limit their audience to nVidia users. |

900 pounds is so freaking expensive for 2 crappy laptops. You can do better. Look for Sager, Clevo, Asus, or MSI. |

A defense against Islamic terrorist attacks.
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/28/09 12:54:53 AM
Well General Pershing is known to be a brilliant military strategist who learns about the people he is fighting against. I think there is a fundamental difference between this and Terrorism. This is more like a public execution. Terrorism is the purposeful use of fear to subjugate others. I think the difference lies in subjugation and the fact that those executed wanted to use their beliefs to take others rights away. The US at this time had no intentions of ruling the Philipinnes so the concept of subjugation is lost. |

There has only been 2 examples of engines using Tesselation, both of them benchmarks meant to bog down your system. Tesselating doesn't have a constant performance impact, it will depend on how the developer utilized it. When you tesselate something you subdivide it, then displace it. So if you have a 100 poly object, you can set the level of tesselation to 1 for 400 poly, 2 for 1600 poly, and 3 for 6400 poly. You can change these levels with a script depending on distance and the detail level selected by the player. Lets say instead of making something that is a benchmark, they instead made a game with limits that match DX9 hardware which will be substantially lower poly counts. They can keep the limits low, then tesselate to a degree of 4 for modern high end cards making it cover all hardware from 4 years ago to today without much extra work. Also no reason not to support DX11. Really absolutely NONE. You will only be limiting your market by not utilizing DX11 since its backwards compatible down to DX9. Pretty sure I already mentioned that several times. Looking back 12-13 years in hardware is hardly an effective measure of a companies worth. Things change so fast in only 1. |

In that price range, you should at least get a quad core. That particular system looks more like a $600 system instead of a $900. It has all that's necessary to run WoW well. Its CAD, so he should be looking at canadian sites. newegg.ca and tigerdirect.ca |

Worst decade since the 1970's. 2000-2009 almost identical to 1970-1979. I remember in 2000, Fashion Designers said they are going to bring back the 70's. I don't think this is what they had in mind. |

TKS is probably the best name out of those. Be prepared to spend a lot of money initially. Getting into custom computing is not easy and you have to make yourself distinct from other companies. The real hurdle is gaining enough cred to sell enough inventory. I would suggest selling gaming rigs with at most 20% profit margins, and give excellent customer support. I would probably hire an outside company to handle my support. Also it wouldn't be nice to go out of business in a year. Or I would offer custom gaming rigs. Not just a computer case with paint, but actual custom made cases using a workshop. You can charge a huge premium on those 1 off machines. |

Should high ranking government officials be allowed to buy and sell stock?
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/25/09 4:19:34 PM
I think congress official's raises should be done by a public vote on the ballot during election time. I think the better approach is to take away the power of congress to affect business enough so they can't gain from the stock market based on their legislation.

Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 11/25/09 1:04:26 PM
Seems about right if you ask me. When they were detaining him it would have been alright to assault him or even kill him. After he was already in custody its not all right. |
