"Quit playing in 2005" -  Enough said.

This is the one major thing that WoW did to the MMO community that I can't stand.

Previous to WoW the amount of "asshats" was a very small number in comparison to now.

Now we have a few million teeny bopper, Bieber fans who act like monkey's because parents don't watch intently what their kids are doing on their computers.  You know 98% of them wouldn't be playing online if their parents knew 1/4 of what they say or how they act.  There's also that anonymity factor.  Everyone can be a tough guy sitting comfortably behind a computer monitor knowing full and well that nobody will see their true self.  For a kid, that's a pretty powerful thing.  Hell, that's powerful for any age that isn't happy with their real life.

The best thing we can do for them AND us is utilize the ignore feature.  If enough of us partake in it's usage, sooner or later those "asshats" will realize they can't get much done without others.

We're very close to live, and even closer to head start if ya pre-ordered.  ;)

Simply stated... Anyone that says the graphics in this game suck, or aren't that good are running older systems / PCs.

There's only one real problem with the graphics at this point, and that's the fact that their FSAA algorithm is a little off.  What this means, in a nut shell, Every visual in the game gets sampled 2-4 times, every time.  It's like you going to an all you can eat buffet and having 4 of everything at the same time.  Even people like me running cutting edge enthusiast systems, can't run the game with 4x Super (Smooth Edges works fine, but as soon as you hit multiple SS you can see something isn't quite right)  Sampling enabled. (and I'm running 2x GTX580 hydros) This is a known problem, and is being looked at by developers.  Even without the SS enabled, if you've got your antiliasing stepped up the game looks beautiful.

That issue aside, even without SS at 4x the game still looks great.  I do agree with some people that some of the character animations are a bit on the dull side, but that too is being looked at by the developers.

I'm also under the impression that people using mobile GPU/CPUs are having issues, of which, are also being sorted by developers, as well as VGA manufacturers (driver end).

In the past, most MMO's were/are both CPU and GPU intensive depending on where you had your sliders at in video settings.

RIFT is of a newer breed where 90% of the graphics abilities of the engine are GPU extensive.  I, personally, wouldn't expect the best you can get, eye-candy wise, in this game unless you're running an Nvidia 400 series card (or ATI equivelant) or better.  We're moving into a "new age" for graphics engines where the majority of the processing is going to be done on the GPU itself, and everything previous to the 200 series just won't perform well, if at all.

Some suggestions on video settings for people who simply can't upgrade right now:

Turn OFF:  Fullscreen FX, Shadows, Super Sampling.

Keep your sliders on the low side for partical density, ground density, and view distances (all applicable sliders).

This whole WoW clone thing is getting entirely too out of hand.

First of all, WoW is a clone of MANY other predecessors.

Second of all, the majority of the people claiming anything to be a WoW clone is what we old schoolers refer to as the "WoW generation" a.k.a. the "asshat generation".

Is RIFT a WoW clone?  Absolutely not.  Are there similarities?  Absolutely.

Trion simply took successful aspects of other games, as well as not so successful aspects of other games and improved on them.  I suppose in that respect, they are similar.

To say that RIFT is a "WoW Clone" is simply a lame little fanboy comment.

Even if it WAS a clone, wouldn't you rather play WoW with far superior graphics?

RIFT is a surprisingly great game, and it's the smoothest, and cleanest beta I've seen in 20 years of gaming.

Anyone who was around for the WoW beta will agree, it was nowhere near as well done.  That fact, in itself, is enough to negate any "clone" claims.

(Yes, 20 years, I'm that old.  My first MMO was on a college campus mainframe, and it was text based)

The first thing people have to do to truly appreciate, AND enjoy an MMO is enter the game with an open mind.

If you enter a game with a pre-disposed attitude, you can pick apart any game out there.  There is only so much that can be "different" when it comes to MMO's.  There are several variables to this, a big one being mainstream technology.

Do yourself a favor.  Take advantage of the next beta (starts Friday at 10am PST) and see for yourself if you enjoy the game or not.  Will it seem familiar?  Yes.  Will you recognize some features?  Yes.  Thanks to some familiar mechanics the learning curve is minimal, as far as basics go, but if you're going to excel at any given class, it will take some effort on your part.  Is it something totally new and innovative?  Not entirely, no, but what they've done with some other games ideas is very refreshing, and entertaining.

Very well done all.  Look forward to the next bash!

I've been playing MMO's since back before the 3D days.  In comparison to EVE's depth of play, the only other game that I feel comes "really" close is an old-school game called Anarchy-Online.

Sadly, it is now dated graphic wise, though there are plans to soon release a new DX engine for the game.

This game has the same "deep" skillset that EVE has.  While I'll agree UO has a rather vast system, AO is a bit more than that even.  Anyone who ever played the game for a long period of time would probably agree.

Side Note:  No, this does NOT apply to the freebie version.  This pertains the game as a whole, including all expansions.

                     The "Froob" version doesn't count.

Is the OP actually this person, Marianne Kristiansen ? A Failcom employee?

Well if it is her, she should know, at least from my point of view, that I didnt play the last 2 months of my sub, in AOC, nor finish the trial period recently. However, I'll play trials, of Warhammer, as long as they have them.

If you didnt finish out your paid time or even the trial why would you keep playing trials?

He said he didn't finish his payed sub for AoC, meaning it sucked that bad.

How long until you received your Beta code and other pre order codes via email? I noticed after buying it a few days ago that it mentioned nothing about how or when I would receive these things. I had to search through their online help desk to find a post from someone else that got an answer but I would still feel better about it if some one here ordered CE preorder through EA store online and received these codes already. thanks in advance.

Ordered all of my CE's from EA, and received all my codes within 48 hours.

Whoopee.

Like others before them, Mythic rolls out the red carpet for Guilds and the unguilded can prepare to be steamrollered by those who can't function outside of the group.  So much for even solo players to feel like they're part of the overall campaign. The Guilds will have all the toys and attention.

I didn't want to play a PVP game anyway, now the preference being shown for huge groups is enough to make me cancel my pre-order.

Love Warhammer, hate WAR.

Wow.... What part of MMO do you "solo players" not get?  Don't whine about a games designed so people can log in, and play with OTHER people.  Stick to your FPS games, etc.  There's a reason MMO's were created.

Actually Cancer is the "Best" disease, not that it makes much sense in what was being argued.

AIDS does not kill.  It would be like saying that a spy that broke into a defence structure and turned off some shields prior to the nuking of said structure was a killer.  Sure, the spy aided in the killing but only to the extent that the spy`s actions led to the destruction of people.  The spy`s primary role however was to make the defences inoperative, not the murder of the inhabitants.

As for Warhammer being similar to WoW, I could care less.   If you find endless grind for items and skills with next to no story line a pleasurable experience, power to you.   I have a more intelligible taste when it comes to my entertainment and have grown out of that type of gameplay experience long ago.

I postulate that most people will be ready for a "new" experience in 2-3 years and finally catch up to the rest of us.  My game will hopefully be ready by that time.

Well,  if "your" game has as much content, validity, and progressive nature, as your post to this particular subject does, it'll die long before it ever gets out of the gate.   Who is "US"?  The Elitist?  The Oldschool?  Or, amongst the billions out there, just another group that prefer a different type of gaming?

We dont need Warhammer for the same reason your corner doesnt need 3 gas stations. I dont mind new "mmorpgs" but when games like LOTR and WAR simply copy WoW it does nothing to push the industry.

EA is reknown for half ass games and most notably for its poor business tactics, employment policy and lack of innovation in its titles.

As the largest third-party developer, EA has repeatedly become the lightning rod for gamers' and games industry employees' misgivings about the game industry in general.

EA is often criticized for buying smaller development studios primarily for their intellectual property assets, and then making the developers produce run-of-the-mill games on these same franchises. Many EA Sports games are only supported for online play by EA for two years, forcing gamers to buy the next installment in the series (at full price) to continue playing online afterwards.

EA is also known for shutting down its acquired studios after a poorly performing game. Many see EA's control and direction as being primarily responsible for the game's failure rather than the studio.

Electronic Arts has been sued for its employment policy of requiring employees to work extraordinarily long hours—up to 80 hours per week—as a general rule and not just at "crunch" times leading up to the scheduled releases of products.

So yea I wouldnt get to excited for WAR, Mythic is just a name now and EA is in charge. You can bet their business model for WAR is something like this:

1) Copy WoW early game , switch to a EQ model of endless grind at endgame.

2) Pump out expansions fast. Two the first year, I bet they allready have one lined up.

3) Milk it for two years before closing down.

4) Blame it on mythic.

Who's "We"?   Just curious how many  you speak for.

Too bad, you're getting one.

Based on your theory, and opinion, you've read very little of the game.

Your aids analogy is a bloody joke, and dont start bringing up every single analogy out there.

Let me show u some links to exactly how war is looking like wow, but imo more advanced now with new tools.  Imo this is a very good thing because it looks very cool indeed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atHQHAhMByY                Part 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95DJZD4F3GY&mode=related&search=              part 2

Anyone that thinks wow ,and warhammer do not look alike has their bloody head in the sand.  Obviusly there are some changes, but essentially they use the same sort of art style through the world and for the ui.  Like i sad before this is a good thibng imo, even the charcater rigs and animations looks very good.

*sigh*  Yes, an orc will always look like an "Orc".  A Dwarf will always look like a "Dwarf", annnnnd so on.

Logically, as time progresses, so does technology.  DX10 with Vista is opening all sorts of new advancements with graphical rendering.   So yes, anyone who doesn't think an Orc looks like an Orc, or a Dwarf looks like a Dwarf.... does have their head in the sand.  (for lack of a better term in respect of the website).

This is generally covered by saying they are the same, Genre.

Yes, the game looks excellent.  The mechanics, design, skills, classes, PvP system however won't be too comparable to WoW.  OTHER than genre specific lore.

I look forward  to trying / playing the game.  I was a little concerned when EA stepped in, but they are keeping to their word.  They're allowing Mythic to go balls out, with a much larger wallet than Blizzard had to start with.  That alone makes a difference, at that point it's all about the devs.

..

LOl i sad nothing about dwarfs and orcs.  Of course character models can look the same, im talking about the art direction of the game.

Again, Genre comes to mind.  One can only go SO far with "art direction" before it goes outside certain Genre / Lore boundaries.  Of course the "Art direction" is going that direction, and I'm not arguing that, nor stating otherwise.  Art, like technology, advances.  Which, Ironically, has a lot to do with my statement about "interactive" devs.

So, wherever you mistook my statements for argumentation, or demeaning your post, please reread without the context someone is taking a stab at you, or your ability to type at this time.

It's a bad thing because if people wanted to play a game like WoW, they would.....well.....play WoW?   Don't we have enough of these shallow, collect 22 bunny ear quest type of games?

All of which (for those who read about it) WAR wont "just" be.  Some people like sandbox games, some don't.  From the looks of your sig, I'd say you like 'em quite a bit.  However, if you take the time to read about WAR, you'll find a lot more available than just your typical sandbox grind.

Then again, none of them are designed with the intention of people playing with a bed pan installed.

What makes WoW the best on the market? Because it has the most subscribers?

Is AIDS the best disease because everyone dies from it?

I played WoW since the release, and while it was very good, I don't know about best on the market, Blizzard doesn't like to listen to the right people and listens to all the wrong people about balance issues. They'd be better off not listening at all.

Warhammer is nothing like WoW, and only similiar in that they both have Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves, Goblins, and Humans.

Watch the latest developer blog  videos and you'll see how much more the developers care about this game than others. They have such a passion.
It's not actually AIDS that people die from. AIDS is a disease that attacks the immune system and weakening it meaning that you can die from colds ect and all other diseases/infections/viruses that are seen as harmless by most people.

All of which people don't die from initially, hence AIDS still being the killer.  Ergo it being named.

ON TOPIC:  Warhammer is nothing like WoW.  Is it the same Genre?  Yes.  Warhammer has been around longer, and the devs have been working on warhammer since Blizzard started on WoW.  At this point, it's all heresay, however when the game finally hits the shelves I can promise anyone who likes this Genre / style of game, will not be disappointed.  A lot more time, money, and listening have gone into WAR.  Deeper graphical quality, content, variables, mechanics, PvP, PvE, RvR, and the list goes on.

Please stop saying WAR is a "WoW Clone".   It's simply in the same Genre.  From what I gather, in my personal opinion, for the more "in depth" players, WoW won't hold a candle to WAR.  Same genre, totally different class, and far more interactive devs.

CLONE = A group of identical genes, cells, or organisms derived from a single ancestor.
CLONE = An exact digital copy, indistinguishable from the original.

Like I said, the only reason many of you guys are here on the DDO forums is troll those who dislike the game. You have no other purpose in life, but to trolls those who come to this board giving their opinions about the game. You can call me a troll if you like, but compare to you guys, I rarely come to boards to say much if anything. You guys are here 24/7 ready to jump on any poster with a negative comment. If a person say this game sucks, several of you guys will appear and post praises thinking the praise will drown out that one negative post or change the minds of whatever else in the community thanks of the game.

You guys know this game isn't good, which is why you don't post topics often in the General forums. I mean at least the LotRO fan can go into the general forums and post LotRO topics about their game without ridicule.

Hardcore Member, 364 posts.  Contradictory?

Hate to burst your teeny bubble mate, but about the only thing you're doing here is trolling and shooting yourself in the foot.

Sorry, the level of new content addition in Asherons Call 2 was depressing.

Sorry, but putting Blizzard above Turbine in the "content addition" category is absolute idiocracy.  There's not even a worthy comparison to support such a fanboi effort.  I sincerely hope you're not comparing their single TBC addition to all the modules of Turbine.

CCP and Turbine are at the top...  I'd put Blizzard / WoW somewhere near the bottom.

Right now there's a very nice 7800 @ newegg for under 110 bucks... and coming from someone running two of them in SLi mode... I can tell you, you won't be disappointed.  Even if you're only running one.

Definately looking forward to the 6th.

*edit* Pre-coffee spelling!

Comparing DDO from Day 1, to now.  I just gotta say... they're definately learning from mistakes, and not necessarily all their own.

That, in itself, is very promising.
