I don't remember who said it in the last thread that was like this... but he's got you beat. He was promoting that when your character dies your account is deleted. If you want to play again you have to buy a new copy of the game... NOW THAT IS HARDCORE!
Back in the day (hops in his "Back in the day time machine™") When the first Call of Duty came out, i played it non-stop. Then, soon after United Offensive came out and so did some mods. My least favorite was the "Bleed out" mod. When I'd curse and scream about this people would say "But, it makes it realistic. If you got shot in real war, you would bleed from it". I would always say "I would bleed out but I'd not respawn 10 seconds later either. I play this game to *not* be in reality. Reality would be if you died in this game you had to go out and buy another copy and/or never be able to play it again." |

Guild Wars: A PvP focused game where the zones are all instanced (except cities and towns). It has a PvE side as well but It was thrown in to appease PvE players. However, the PvE in Guild Wars is great in my opinion. You do not need to play the game for a month to be able to get some money, gear, and a lot (if not all) of the missions completed as well as quests and skills put together. Guild Wars is for an extremely casual player who may have only a few hours a week to put into a game. It has no monthly fee and again, very low level cap so playing just a few hours a week you can still get pretty far in the game. Hardcore players may become bored with it quickly. I was a hardcore player for 2 years and only lost interest when I found Final Fantasy XI. I rarely did PvP despite owning a guild of around 200 people and we did do GvG.
Lord Of The Rings: Online: I have not played this much recently. I played the beta and bought it when it went public and played for a few months. Problems plagued the game and i quicly got frustrated and bored of it. I did the recent 5 Day Trial for returning players but it never did capture me in the time I got to play. However, This game is different than Guild Wars in that most areas are not instanced. The Game is also very PvE centric instead of PvP (The exact opposite of Guild Wars in this respect) and has a ton of quests, missions and even crafting (Guild Wars has no crafting period). More time is needed to get much done in the game but not a great deal. You can probably get by with about 10 hours a week as long as you could string 2-3 of thosehours together in one sitting. The game is fairly easy to pick up and the graphics to it are stunning. The plus to the game is that it can be as simplistic or complex as you make it. When I played, making money was not a problem and even to this day is the only game where making money isn't a grind. If you dedicate just a little time to it, the money can be made quite easily. I'm not sure how this is accomlpished but kudos for this.
As you can see, the games are really only similar in genre only. If you are looking for an easier, quicker game. Guild Wars is the game to play. If you want a more complex game (yet still fairly simple) then LotR is a good game. It does have a monthly fee however, unlike Guild Wars but it has by far more content to make up for it. |

Only 50% of it is guranteed to be of help and/or correct. =) |

Wrong place. Also, you didn't state a server so that kinda makes it hard for anyone to say "okay, i'll partner up". It's generally best to solo if you're new so you can learn the jobs and then meet people in the game. Having a set person to level with can be annoying as they may not have the same schedule as you or may not play as much. |

Yar, Bismarck isn't on the list because it's got a healthy population already. I didn't know how far along you were or if you were going to just want to hold onto your character or not. I guess the freebie thing you mean was the world transfer. The reason that those servers were put as options are because they are the lower population servers. The "noob" areas are never under beastman control as, well, a lot of new players as well as old exp in those areas. Far more than you'd realize. I see Pandamonium on there and is the only one I can speak of first hand. Me and WSIMike/Shanree both play on there and I enjoy it. I duo with a friend of mine from Bismarck and so far i've found people to be quite helpful in missions and such. The one thing I noticed (granted, i've not met nearly everyone on this server) is that the "racial divide" seems to not be as prevelant than on Bismarck. It could be because the population is lower and they cant just say "Japanese only" which i found to be a huge bonus. One 64THF helped my friend and I do Windurst Mission 2-1. I do not think this would ever happen on Bismarck and it was quite a breath of fresh air. I've ran across probably 30-40 people and not one bad one yet. Have even made friends on there. |

You surely haven't seen that on these message board. Quite a few of us have tried to steer the new players as far away from Odin and the "More people = Best Server" mentality with almost a feverish approach. Not sure what freebies you meant. However, my only answers were already given so i'll not repeat. Beastmen were answered too. There are no RP LS's on Bismarck and I do not believe there are any on Pandamonium. However, Bismarck is a strong server, Pandamonium has less population but is where my second home is and so far seems fairly decent. I've not actually LFP much on it but when i did, was fruitless. I was looking during the middle of the day on a Wednesday though so cant fault the game for that one really. |

As long as you are doing your job well enough to help and not hindering us, i really don't care how you're doing it. I think a lot more people are coming to that. However, I like to have the better gear, the +1 gear, just because it means i can do just that much more and have more options myself so i help my team eek out a little more damage or cure just a little bit better. However, i have my line as well. I understand sometimes having a subjob that's gimp, i've been there, but it should be kept to a minimum especially with so many things changed like higher exp for Easy Prey monsters, bonus exp from signet, Fields of Valor, things I never had, it should be kept to a bare minimum. |

You sound like you just want to raid for gear.Superficial gaming my friend, you might as well stay in WOW.There is a lot of players in this game just as other games with the same mind set.I just HAVE to have that +1 elemental staff or i HAVE to have that Kraken club. There is a game in there outside of boss drops, players need to play it for fun and not treat it like an expedition to get the HOLY kraken club.
I have to say that, for the first time maybe, i disagree with ya Wiz. As much as I love playing the game, leveling jobs, doing the missions (Zilart Missions are my fav storyline by far, ToAU a close second), I also try for that +1 elemental stave or that Kraken Club because it makes my ability to play my job better. I mean, there are whole sections pretty much, of this game, where all you're doing it going for the loot. Dynamis, Nyzul Isle, Einherjar, and Salvage. I think he actually sounded like the typical FFXI player. Aren't we all working on our character to improve them? Wether it be gear or combat skill or even levels. |

I was around a bunch of people (higher levels) today and they said it is generally low which means that if you have a good reputation you have a much better shot at a party but means, less parties. Less competition in farming but fewer people buying your stuff. The exact opposites of a heavily populated server. However, Bismarck seems to have grown some and it can rock about 2k during peak times and genearlly not below 1500. I've found this to be in the "sweet spot" but it's getting a little high too. I'm glad to know my server is rebounding (we had a large population drop when transfers were availabe). Right now it's good, i'd reccomend it over any other server (it's my home server too) but other than that the only server i've played on is Titan and it seemed dead when i did. |

Maybe it's just throwing a different name on it but the connotation to "grinding" seems to be a bad one. You have to do some repetitious activities but there is a reason for it. |

You defeat them once to get them and then you go back through again to get Fenrir. You don't need to defeat them more than twice. Finding people to do this in a linkshell is generally fairly easy as a lot of people have to do them and just don't but I would reccomend another job before Summoner so you can make friends who can help you out with this. |

I will extend to you the offer I extend to any player (new or old) on here. If you are on Bismarck or come to Bismarck I will help in showing you the ropes and giving you information. I can give you a pearl to a great LS too that is almost always active, good people, and willing to help when possible (and given a heads up). I also play on Pandamonium (i'd say with WSIMike/Shanree but alas, he's ditched me lately lol) and just started there so I am going through the "noob" levels again. It's fun for me because i know what to do so the game goes along smoothly. I'd reccomend Bismarck however as the population tends to be higher than Pandy lately and because I can actually offer assistance on there where on Pandy i can only lend advice and very little ph | |
