Most (not all) players need other players in order to enjoy a game, be it if youre a raider, pvp'er or roleplayer, you need the right type of fellow players to hang out whit. MMO's are social games in core design even if they are more focust on solo play then group play and have a severe lack of anyting else then battlegounds and generic quest these days.

the developer who incl's a good social sub-game into thier mmo will find that players stick around for years, those who dont will find that there customers will go as fast as they come.

its a shame coz its realy easy to add sub-game mechanics in a game, fishing is a very very populair thing to do in games that have it, its usaly nothing more then a mini game were folks can hangout ,try to catch a big fish and maybe have a contest if they like to arange so. its not populair coz its fun staring at a timer and to press a button at the right moment to ctach that vitural fish..no its fun coz youre hanging out whit youre friends, chatting, goofing around and have a good time. there a million little addons that can be put into games that require the coding of a very simple app yet is compleetly overlooked in todays games.

Make a website that pulls info from social media, those wholike that stuff can share and care and build a social game site linked to their RL social media, so willl use it ,some wont, but the main goal is reached, players stay longer , enjoying themself longer.

/shrug perhaps one day  a developer will  get the vision needed understand that mmo's aint fastfood burger  but a fine meal you should sit down for and enjoy whit a glass of wine and desert.

anyway, in the end it comes down to comunity, if you like a community you stick around, if you dont you will leave for the next game.

Hero engine is a AAA engine whit extreme powerfull tools and possiblity's. its also FREEEEE , as in you can start making youre game whit their engine for free and afterwards pay a cut of the income to them. whit Hero engine you reduce startup cost by a few million and only have to put in whatever you need to pay youreself /employees. (excl design programs like Maya/max those also cost a wee bit)

its a fairly ideal engine for a startup dont know what i want to do exsactly and how much i can invest type of indy developer. and considering the big guys also use the engine it gota do someting right eh ?

/shrug he had a memory error, altered setting to bypass it.  he should first do a one by one full scan of the modules, means taking them out and scanning then one by one for the full 100% cycle. he only did a 1 hour test. its likely to  be a memory acces problem I think, more so then a videocard problem.

while at it he can clean his pc internaly to if he never did ;)

The main reason the game flopped was due its odd publishing deals that reaaly costed them big time.

Tthe quest were meh generic and the world smallish but its combat system was far ahead of its time, just could have used a little more speed in general play.

The art style was nice (tho  art style is always apersonal preference thing) and they did try to break the habbit of orcs and elfs a bit ;)

shame it went under and dint get pickedup by a other company, could have bina good one but that is the same for manny games whit good idea's .

Off topic...is this the only multiplayer Myst game? Also, is this the only MMO Myst game? Last, I thought this game was shut down. If this is the same game, was it re opened?

Its the same, it was shutdown and now back up, can use it freely , pretty much a tittle that went under the radar like so many niche games. its partial open source now.

OMG the video is private!! ..noooooo! its the end of the world, I hate mmorpg.com! I hate it, I hate it so much im going to leave a one liner wtf and tell them is bullshit! clean up this mess Mike!

wtf..bullshit..

More intrested in the whole open world thing then this "battle zone"  thing, its nice its in a game but there so many shooters out there that this will be the least important thing in firefall for me.

Considering they still need o work on openworld pve and  stuff before being able to show it I belive firefall has put thier focus on the wong part of the game, sure e-sport and shooters are populair but these are very temporal tings, its the larger world around it that will ultimately make or break the game. GA still runs but eh..its a fan niche game now , when is the last time we  saw someting about that game?

Salem is a ultra small development team that have made a game before whit the exsact same game rules before.  they aim at a niche market, they dont aim at the Casual/general market (ofc they would welcome anyone)  the gfx  aint -that-bad  , runescape looked worce for years then it does now and it became a smahing hit in the browser scene (partly due being of of the first)  there are  browser based games and client based games that  in looks are plain ugly but still succeed whit some moderate succes.

It will have its following, if they succeed better this time then H&E ,/shrug dont know,  time will tell , in a industrie whit millions of customers theres always a fair chance for niche games.

Prebuild is ok ,pre-factory is not , make sure you either get a "gaming brand"or  a pc  that is set togetter for you whit parts you choose, it dont have  to be all super parts but the basics need to be good. im sure Quiz or someone else whit US shopping experience will be replying whitin a day or so giving you some great advice/shop order spots.

edit : oh he already is here :P

Whats your opinion on the game so far? did you also play swg and how do they compare?(aside from graphically obviously). were your expectations met for this game? exceeded? disappointed? just wonderin what a few players think of things so far. would like some former swg player opionons aswell. cheers

I lost alot of interest in this game for a while but i figure for how good kotor 1 and 2 were i gotta at least give it a shot.

played swg, they dont compare at all, compleetly diferent games in all aspects even considering the NGE.

Expectations : Simple gameplay whit a good intresting story and intresting quest, Disappointed, counsilor lvl 40, agent 36, well beyond act 1 (story 1) , at first defintly fun, then got bored whit the boring repeating quest (the story is just a jacked to hide the generic quest)

as for other mechanics then simple instanced pvp and generic quest..there none , absolute nothing else to keep you entertained or taht suport other play styles. crafting is  a useless joke , open pvp is ..well its there but hard to find.  rp got no mechanical support (sit in a one of the million chairs? , forget it)

I had fun, but left before my 30days were past.

1v1 2v2 what the flying  **** does this have to do with MMORPG.COM

Nothing, its a crap piece of a game, but they(mmorpg.com)  need to generate articles and possible "intresting"news feeds whenever they apear to retain site users.

Not a single mmo player is the same, this could possibly be intresting to a few lurking about. /shrug

A huge open world is limeted by the client connected to it and db operations, anyone could make a RL sized world whitout any problems realy, its just ground textures .. problem is non-static items. the more you put into a world the worse the load becomes on both server AND client.  were clients are depending on low tech hardware limmeds,  servers are simply contrained by the amound of clients connecting.

nobody makes rl worlds in single player due to the freaking amound of work it takes to make it, you cant just auto generate everyting and its impossible in mmo's (due to client db interaction) you would need google's entire serverpark just to keep up.

dont focus on HUGE worlds..focus on interactive fair worlds. nobody realy wants a huge world, everyone wants next gen multi layer interactive open world.

Diversity will return to the MMO market at some point, we just have to be patient :)

That, each year there are more and more players, a large bunch like simple theme-parks but the "sandbox" crowd is also growing. it just needs to hit  a certain hot spot were investors finally realize that a "sandbox" can make good money.

A title like Archeage might set the motion into the right direction, also alot of indy's whit good engines at work right now  tho those tend to be a bit stuck in the old ages.

While as I said I think AA will do the "sandbox" community and investor respect a lot of good [personally] I think the real deal will start when someone (whit money and not poor me :P)  realizes that you don't need level systems in a sandbox game. a sandbox is about playing the Life, about acquiring the goods, be it nice armor you can craft, a house you can decorate , a ship you can build and explore whit, gamble every gold  piece you acquired by selling the pelts you hunted  on card games.

Simply pick the combat /craft skills you like at character creation and start playing the game instead of grinding it. no stats at all , limited time based respect options. explore, fight, discover, find, craft and socialize. leveling was never ment to be the game, rather a mechanic to slow you down or learn the game whit.

How many time have you spent leveling vs playing the "endgame" in you're favorite multi-year game?

Dude youre living in the USA, you got no digital rights at all, nada ..and im not saying it to troll you or someting, just plain fact ;)

Well im glad I already left the game, this patch would have made me leave anyway hehe, biochem is a very expencive craft to level to the top and the only benifit it had was having better medpacks and buff then simulair of the same level you could get from vendors or as rewards.

cybertech was the other usefull crafting standing a little out from the reward/loot system, now also useless (besites a few exclusive vanity items)

While I can understand the logic behind these nerfts (must have craft x else youre weaker then those who have it.)  they should have simply remove any restiction from the medpacks so they could be sold on the market and everyone could use them.

Stupit move thats gona cost them customers.

Man no UO on the list.. OP must be a youngling ;)  50% or of todays mmo players are 30+ (tho granted alot are farmville housewifes...hell even my dad 71 plays it haha)

anyway on tropic Muds,  -UO-, dabble in EQ, then some good long years in swg, nothing special afther that ..few months here a year there and a few more across the street.

Man ..realllyy! ?  7/10 for this piece of crap review..euh ..review.. man it totaly lacks humor! should stick to mmorpgs.com  way better!!  this get a 5/10 max ..for the picture. atleast its a little artistic!

No use in pondering about it, TSW mechanics all are set in stone and the general crafting discussions bin done a billion times.

Rather i will do a small prediction, crafting will be compleetly useless in TSW, its a subcription+Cash shop game were "looks"  are defined by the amound of cash you put into it.

No mather how good this game and its mechanics will be, the double money grind will always overshadow the entire game.

Since you all like to compare and this is just my personal opinion, Wow was a boring and uninspired EQ clone at launch featureless and shallow only after 10years development is it ok. I was actually happy to ditch 60gigs worth of wow files in favor of Swtor.

On a slightly related note, I almost never looked up at the gates of ironforge in the early days as I did within the first day of Vanguard and thought wow truely awesome artwork while staring up at the gates of their dwarven city. Random comparison i know, but again, the point is, Wow was nothing special to write home about in its first week and 1/1000 of the fun.

Anybody who actually played WoW would not say WoW was simply a featureless EQ clone. WoW improved almost every aspects of MMO genre. For one, WoW at the time (and arguably still do) had top notch gameplay and UI. Default UI was clean and functional, and is infinitely moddable. Animations were fluid and classes were simply designed much better than previously; for one, Classes in WoW showed that any character classes can have active combat without the endless auto attack grind that plagued previous MMOs.

Questing was another huge thing that was "revolutionized" by WoW at the time. Almost every MMO before it required you to grind mobs endlessly. WoW introduced thousands of quests to allow players to have more "fun" while leveling. Not to mention every class was capable of soloing to max level, which was unheard of in many of previous MMOs.

Compare that to SW:ToR. It hasn't really improved anything much, other than voice acting which is really a novelty.

When did you started to play WoW?  2010?

I have been playing since it officially came out and am lvl 17.  I love the quests and the voice overs, why anyone would race through this game is beyond me.  Doin some space, helping people lvl up and also playing skyrim.  So lvl cap is a long way off for me and i am enjoying almost every second of the story line

Lvl 40 (agent) lvl36 counsilor lvl24smugler lvl21jug +12 lvl15-20 characters. Started day 2 pre-release.

Done -all- flashpoints up to 40 about a dozen times, the lower onces probaly 30 times  or more. (collecting gear, helping others)  spent huge huge amounts of time in the game. (own choice, had nothing better to do anyway,..well I have but eh..)

I rushed absolute Nothing. No level race, no skipping voice overs, exploring every corner of every map.

why I tell this? well for one simple reason, if you do this..then the game will stop being fun whitin 3 weeks/end of act one (lvl30-33)

this game is build for players who might play one or two hours a day, perhaps a few more but then only every other day, its the best casual mmo game to date. but if youre a bit crazy, have a bit more free time and play the game more then that..it will start to bore you real fast, the only reason I could imagen a more "hardcore" mmo player stays after the first month would be that he or she plays it whit a great group of friends (like any mmo, friendship/community is the best means to keep players playing even if a game would be utter crap)

So, im glad you have fun, only lvl17 so its sertainly still fresh to you, keep playing&paying it casual and it will stay that way ;)

then again..there are people who simply like to spent 8+ hours running from a-b killing x and y  ..each their own ;)
