Since when is -MMORPG.com- doing a review of a FPS game? should that not belong on the sister site Fpsguru.com? a "f2p" shooter that is the same old thing as the days of duke nukem and doom only transformed so we can have to pay to play it online .. these games should be forbidden by law :P |

Over the past few years since EQ2 came out, what has been some Major technical advances in the MMORPG genre other than Graphics?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/08/12 3:57:14 PM
/shrug everyting that we consider "new" is just a rewrite / evolution of old mechanics and technics that were long technical possible but simply not done due to user systems having limmets. cant realy speak of technical adv in mmo's since as mentioned above they are based on evolutions of older machanics, tweaks if you like or simply taken from other gerne's and put into mmo's as hardware becomes better. Xsyon (tho we cant call that a finished mmo) is technical adv I supose, one of the few games that allows actual terrain modification in realtime even tho that techniqe is quite old , same story again, its hardware contrains (and scared developers whitout vission) why we havent seen it wide spread yet. I dont think we even should wish for more technical adv then we have now, what we need is a developer who takes a good long look at mmo's are graps everyting from every mmo in terms of game mechanics and puts it togetter. infact I dont think there is any more adv possible at all untill we get a whole new system of grapics rendering that allows super modification in real time of the game world. everyting that can be done has bin done either already in mmo's or in other game gerne's , its just a matter of we put the tech in a white Apple system or a shiny black samsung .. on the outside to us players it looks diferent but on the inside its all the same made in taiwan. LFGroup LFGui;d, LFraid, LFPublicQ, LFRoleplay,LFPlayer-v-Player,LFInsert someting new, its all the same old shit, it just got a new fancy UI box and a extra DB entree , nothing new or technical advancement about it, just a clever way to make gamers life easyer or dumber or faster or whatever reason its put in. Developers have everyting on a plate, from indepth living breating worlds to fast action gameplay to awesome UI design and controll scemes . .its all out there to watch learn from and put into a awesome game. all that matters to them developers now is how much money they got, but more importand how devoted the developers are themself, a small "poor" developer team is more likely to make the next Golden super mmo then any of the big game houses , just like the old baker on the corner makes better bread then the factory baker. its all about love. |

News Discussion « General Discussion 2/07/12 10:57:19 AM
Lvl 14 sofar, the game is ok, its a very clear console port everyting is designed around it. The world is closed and liniar, sure you can walk east insead of west if you like but youre still stuck on the story path that will make you go east, theres simply no walking of the path since the game has no open area's (sofar traveld about 1/3 of the map) its all pathways that lead you,no looking across the hill no freedom to go into a cave you just found, they are mostly closed and only can enter those when you are on the correct quest.
edit: its true btw what the poster above em said aboutt he grapics..its a huge disapointment and I to had to think aboutt he SW:tor thing were in scenes the textures were great but during gameplay it sucked , its exsactly the same in this game, tuning off post-processing stuff actualy makes the game look sharper/nicer but its again to clear its a cosole port designed for older hardware. is it fun?.. yea supose it is, else i would not play it eh, but its a simple action game whit a nice story that can bore you from time to time due to its repeative playstyle. I rember a asian f2p action mmo that gave the same feeling as this game does so I guess I grow bored of the game in a few days unless it starts to suprise me. |

World of Darkness: CCP’s Plans to Dominate 2012
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/06/12 10:58:33 AM
I feel sad for CCP, there a great bunch but looks like they are stuck whit some crazy idea's that a PS3 shooter whitout being known in the ps3 community could be a huge succes and have the same apeal on pc and its players aswell. to me this looks like a typical manager error were someone whit a golden voice whitin the company managed to press the idea. Could be wrong but doubt the game will do well. WoD if marketed right could have a Huge following but sofar theres little to no knowlidge in the general mmo consumer population about it. it needs some Big ass marketing. As for Eve online, that game has reached its end asfar I view it, game mechanical expansions have put on hold for more of the same old, they made the choice to be a narrow space simulation instead of a living world (well ..galaxy), more ships, and more ships..and some bigger guns .. and a other way to travel true space to do the same thing whit those ships just so you can build more ships to shoot other ships. wish them luck, just hope for them they keep developing as gamers and not as managers else they will end up on the big pile of junk developers players wont trust anymore. |

I seriously question my ability to play any MMO (or any GAME for that matter) for longer than 1 month.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/05/12 6:02:34 AM
Most (not all) players need other players in order to enjoy a game, be it if youre a raider, pvp'er or roleplayer, you need the right type of fellow players to hang out whit. MMO's are social games in core design even if they are more focust on solo play then group play and have a severe lack of anyting else then battlegounds and generic quest these days. the developer who incl's a good social sub-game into thier mmo will find that players stick around for years, those who dont will find that there customers will go as fast as they come. its a shame coz its realy easy to add sub-game mechanics in a game, fishing is a very very populair thing to do in games that have it, its usaly nothing more then a mini game were folks can hangout ,try to catch a big fish and maybe have a contest if they like to arange so. its not populair coz its fun staring at a timer and to press a button at the right moment to ctach that vitural fish..no its fun coz youre hanging out whit youre friends, chatting, goofing around and have a good time. there a million little addons that can be put into games that require the coding of a very simple app yet is compleetly overlooked in todays games. Make a website that pulls info from social media, those wholike that stuff can share and care and build a social game site linked to their RL social media, so willl use it ,some wont, but the main goal is reached, players stay longer , enjoying themself longer.
/shrug perhaps one day a developer will get the vision needed understand that mmo's aint fastfood burger but a fine meal you should sit down for and enjoy whit a glass of wine and desert.
anyway, in the end it comes down to comunity, if you like a community you stick around, if you dont you will leave for the next game. |

I want to create an MMORPG, how much money do I need?
Help Wanted « Developers Corner 2/05/12 3:45:45 AM
Hero engine is a AAA engine whit extreme powerfull tools and possiblity's. its also FREEEEE , as in you can start making youre game whit their engine for free and afterwards pay a cut of the income to them. whit Hero engine you reduce startup cost by a few million and only have to put in whatever you need to pay youreself /employees. (excl design programs like Maya/max those also cost a wee bit) its a fairly ideal engine for a startup dont know what i want to do exsactly and how much i can invest type of indy developer. and considering the big guys also use the engine it gota do someting right eh ? |

/shrug he had a memory error, altered setting to bypass it. he should first do a one by one full scan of the modules, means taking them out and scanning then one by one for the full 100% cycle. he only did a 1 hour test. its likely to be a memory acces problem I think, more so then a videocard problem. while at it he can clean his pc internaly to if he never did ;) |

Chronicles of Spellborn - remember that game?
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 2/01/12 1:01:28 PM
The main reason the game flopped was due its odd publishing deals that reaaly costed them big time. Tthe quest were meh generic and the world smallish but its combat system was far ahead of its time, just could have used a little more speed in general play. The art style was nice (tho art style is always apersonal preference thing) and they did try to break the habbit of orcs and elfs a bit ;) shame it went under and dint get pickedup by a other company, could have bina good one but that is the same for manny games whit good idea's .

Firefall: Red5 Shows Off Demo in Live Stream
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/29/12 5:42:01 PM
More intrested in the whole open world thing then this "battle zone" thing, its nice its in a game but there so many shooters out there that this will be the least important thing in firefall for me. Considering they still need o work on openworld pve and stuff before being able to show it I belive firefall has put thier focus on the wong part of the game, sure e-sport and shooters are populair but these are very temporal tings, its the larger world around it that will ultimately make or break the game. GA still runs but eh..its a fan niche game now , when is the last time we saw someting about that game? |

Salem is a ultra small development team that have made a game before whit the exsact same game rules before. they aim at a niche market, they dont aim at the Casual/general market (ofc they would welcome anyone) the gfx aint -that-bad , runescape looked worce for years then it does now and it became a smahing hit in the browser scene (partly due being of of the first) there are browser based games and client based games that in looks are plain ugly but still succeed whit some moderate succes. It will have its following, if they succeed better this time then H&E ,/shrug dont know, time will tell , in a industrie whit millions of customers theres always a fair chance for niche games.

Prebuild is ok ,pre-factory is not , make sure you either get a "gaming brand"or a pc that is set togetter for you whit parts you choose, it dont have to be all super parts but the basics need to be good. im sure Quiz or someone else whit US shopping experience will be replying whitin a day or so giving you some great advice/shop order spots.
edit : oh he already is here :P |

question for swtor players/former players

Originally posted by guy232 Nothing, its a crap piece of a game, but they(mmorpg.com) need to generate articles and possible "intresting"news feeds whenever they apear to retain site users. Not a single mmo player is the same, this could possibly be intresting to a few lurking about. /shrug |

A huge open world is limeted by the client connected to it and db operations, anyone could make a RL sized world whitout any problems realy, its just ground textures .. problem is non-static items. the more you put into a world the worse the load becomes on both server AND client. were clients are depending on low tech hardware limmeds, servers are simply contrained by the amound of clients connecting. nobody makes rl worlds in single player due to the freaking amound of work it takes to make it, you cant just auto generate everyting and its impossible in mmo's (due to client db interaction) you would need google's entire serverpark just to keep up. dont focus on HUGE worlds..focus on interactive fair worlds. nobody realy wants a huge world, everyone wants next gen multi layer interactive open world. |
