Neverwinter: Ask Cryptic Your Questions About Neverwinter!
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/04/12 6:42:01 AM
Most MMO's released in the past several years are very similar, but usually have some unique features or functions which set it apart from the competition. What unique functions and features do you intend on implementing so that NWN:MMO will be set apart from the many other mmo's that are cropping up. Regards Sadeyx |

"SW:TOR’s rampant and undeniable success"
what ARE you smoking, seriously? Every mmo on release has seen more success than this game.
Its only because it has the 'star wars' label on that its sold any copies at all. Bioware have never made any mmo's and has only ever made one successfull game before.
By now people should realise that converting a film into an mmo does not, should not, has never and will never work in any conceivable way.
To claim that it has seen any success when not one single player has yet to make a decision on subscribing beyond the first 30 days is utter nonsense. |
|
|
I imagine how the game is rated as an MMO will be determined by how many take a subscription beyond the first 30 days.
Just by reading reviews and comments you can already tell how it will perform. |
|
|
A good analogy, since there will never be anymore starwars films, then like the titanic, this ship was set to fail the moment it was released.
not that I desire it to fail, in fact I desire any new mmo to succeed, but if Star wars, star trek, Marvel, DC, conan, warhammer are world class IP's that fail to make any successfull MMO, what hope does the future have?

Has there ever been more misinformation thrown out regarding an MMO before ?

yea, its an mmo that is wearing a jacket with 'star wars' slapped on the back. What more information is needed? |

Originally posted by WhySoShort It could easily be over 3,000,000 total. yea, pretty pathetic. considering the amount of money they spent on making the game.
the biggest features of an mmo and what makes people continue playing them is the 'multi-player' aspect, since this game is essentially a single player rpg, with a chat client bolted on, and with such poor launch.... the biggest mmo of late is also the biggest failier. |

they've already released some statistics;
Over 850,000 Sith Warriors and over 810,000 Jedi Knights created
so not even 2 million players, champions online was more successfull. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mind Boggling Stats
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/03/12 6:01:18 AM
those figures are not exactly 'mind boggling' are they?... in fact, they are pretty shit, they indicate that after the first month, this mmo will probably die like all other mmo's do. |
|
|
Will you be subscribing after the first month?

Thing is, what people say after a few days is always upbeat, once the 'newness' euphoria wears off things are usually different |

Mojang (Minecraft) beats Bethesda in court
General Gaming « General Discussion 10/18/11 9:28:05 AM
Originally posted by Corehaven Its true. They offerd to change it from the outset. And I think scrolls is meant to be a puzzle game... nothing like Elder scrolls. They could never have sued Mojang because its an un-released product and no money has yet to be made from it. At the very most they could have forced Mojang to change the name, which they offerd to do anyway and pay for the court costs.
So yea, Bethesda seem to be out of touch and out for blood for some reason. Which has now backfired, given Mojang some publicity and I for one, wont be buying any more eldar scrolls.

Hail players! A bunch of us from Perpetuum have decided to give this game a shot as Perp is dying a slow death atm. Not sure how seriously we'll take the game, but since its completly new to me (never even done trial) its got that "all new and shiny" feeling to it. The first thing which strikes me are the graphics, they look way better and more impressive in real life than any of the screenshots and video's I've seen. The atmosphere and envoiroment gives a very good feeling of 'immersion'
Would love to hear any advice! any noobie mistakes to avoid at low levels? , any skills or items which are useless and best to avoid.? Any Important or secret missions worth keeping an eye out for? And obviously some leveling advice would be cool too, is it best to just run all missions or grind on high level mobs? I dont like to hang around and keen to level up for Pvp.
Cheers

guildwars is a contained, restrict arena type pvp. You pretty much know whats coming, you know the landscape, you can prepare for it, set a strategy.
Real pvp is open world pvp where you can find yourself in a situation that isnt pre-determined, un-expected, where you might not have prepared for every contingency, a test of your ability to adapt and overcome a situation where nothing is set in stone, where the territory may or may not be familiar. You might be outnumberd, out classed, out gunned... but with tenacity, initiative, quick thinking and wit, ie, pure skill... you can still overcome the odds.
Limited, 4v4 or 8v8 pvp is more about predicting patterns in a cocoon envoiroment where every team eventually falls into some kind of cookie cutter build which inevitably degenerates into rock paper scissors.
Thats all guildwars became in the end, just 4/5 recognised builds that everyone used, the only time they changed was when the DEV's decided to alter skills and shape the face of pvp. There was player choice, but ultimatly, the way the dev's alterd skills pretty much forced a style of pvp that they wanted. |

If your EU time zone then Apparently Gilrain is one of the best. As for US, I dont know. They all seem pretty dead for me when Im active. |

well, you've got nothing to lose and plenty of time... then just dive into the deepend and get yourself in a 0.0 or low-sec corporation. I gave eve several chances over several years, each time I got bored. It wasnt until I put myself in a good corp that Eve finally made any sense.
Just make sure its a corp that heavily uses voice coms.. the best ones make voice comm's mandatory.
|
|
|
Im not sure a MUD would be the right solution for that situation, not for me anyway. I'd most probably play Eve, everything can be done with mouse and it has built in voice function.
I'd even be tempted by strategy games like Civ that take a long time, maybe brush up on my chess game or Poker game. I'm not sure an RPG would keep me distracted enough.

Kinda of agree.
Might be a good game to play at work or something, but I think id rather just read forums etc |

You cant say for certain that GW2 will be better than TERA, and vice versa.
Thing is... both these companies are very very good at over hyping their game!... Arenanet especially have a history of over hyping to the extend of deception.
In both cases, I will be watching them closely after release to find out which has bullshitted the most, then I'll try one.. but I certain wont pre-order, no way. They could both end up being utter disasters. |

Should solo players have an endgame?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/28/11 7:22:57 AM
I personally find that Solo players are the biggest complainers.... and as such a lot of games physically change and alter to please those players and often ruins the game. Wow is a good example.
If you've ever heard of someone saying x game is boring, its usually because they are soloers. then the game gets dumbed down leaving those who like to group up with a game that is significantly less challenging.
Ive no problem with soloing, I do it myself a lot.. but the main attraction to me is the interaction between other actual players both the competition and the cooperation. |
