if you want to get back into the newbie channel you can make a new character and use that to relearn things.

failing that, ask questions in this thread and ill try to answer them.

Well, once again you are just flat out wrong. Sorry, but you're just showing your ignorance here. Production efficiency can only be trained to level 5 (about 2 weeks) and that is the only skill that reduces material requirements. A 2 week newb will produce an item with the same costs as a 2 year old vet given the same BPO.

A newbie fresh out of the tutorial can compete with the biggest industrial alliances in the game with a bit of thought, find the market gaps, find the cheaper way to get the materials and prosper. Handy tip for any EVE newbies reading who want to get into production is to find a mission running system and set up buy orders for modules that the rats drop, reprocess that and use the minerals to build ammo to sell to the mission runners.

The richest people in game are traders who dont need any skillpoints whatsoever to make isk, they just buy low and sell high. I've just started training an alt to do manufacture and eventually invention and seem to be doubling my isk every week (half a billion now after a month), of course this is an optical illusion as its impossible for me to compete with vets.

EVE will never be a pvp game for new players.    Its not structured for it, the way the game is set up makes it impossible for a new player to get into pvp.

When presented with an obstacle, a -good- EvE player will look at it from all angles and then metagame the fuck out of it.

See, in your position I would have warped off and come back with some mates and learnt from the experience. Perhaps asked the guy who blew you up for pointers and he probably would have told you what im about to.

In eve a player can be useful in PvP 15 minutes after character creation, there is no other game in existance where a brand new pilot can contribute to a high "level" group in the same way as a tackler can in EVE. The only barrier to getting into PvP in eve is your own ability, Solo, 1v1 a newer player can beat a more experienced pilot with the right strategy and fitting, focus your training and be as good as me very quickly.

I have 44 million skillpoints, thats about 3 years worth. I can fly HACs and recons for 3 races, battleships for another 3, interceptors, bombers, assault frigs, etc. When flying any of the above im using at most 5 million of those skillpoints. So you can "catch up" in about 3-4 months, but skillpoints dont win fights, ships and pilots do.

I like the megathron verses the arbitrator as an example. Battleship costing about 300 million verses a 10 million cruiser that requires perhaps a tenth of the training time, who wins? A PvP vet will bet on a smart arbitrator pilot, a WoW player will be on the mega.

ill happily stick around for a fair fight, but will run like a little girl if i get blobbed.

lets see what happens after dominion, its intended to counteract some of the blobbyness.

its the only mmorpg ive ever played, and ive played wow, swg, ao, mxo, war, gw, etc. the other titles are not massive, barely multiplayer with no roles to play beyond "raider of dungeon loot".

a lot of new players go to destroyers when they want to upgrade from frigates for mission running as they use the same size modules.

however destroyers are not really as good as frigates are in pvp.

golden rule that most of eve live and die by:

"never fly anything you cannot afford to lose"

stick with a tristan or catalyst for now, worry about cruisers when you have the cash to buy two and fit them.

A lot of the advice given to new players is to do learning skills asap, this is great advice for people who have already decided to buy the game and play it for a long while, but just a pointless timesink for anyone who isnt sure if they want to play or not. By all means train them up if you want to, but dont concentrate on learning skills to the exclusion of "fun" skills like destroyer, or propulsion jamming.

if you do the tutorial (highly recommended) it points you towards three profession introduction agents, if you do the combat one of these (again, highly recommended) you come out the other end of the 10 mission mini arc with a new frigate or two, a load of guns, ammo, and various fittings.

the other two net you an industrial, a load of skillbooks, etc.

as far as skill training goes, play for a while, decide which way you want to go and then start worrying about skillplans. do not just train the learning skills to start with, it is dull to do that.

I activated my account 6 months ago after hearing that there's a new big update coming in EvE. The update was awesome but after a while it bores the heck out of me. Now that they announced the Dust project, and neglect to give us info of the ambulation project that they promise ages ago, I'm canceling my two accounts again after the fanfest! I may not be back again for a while or never at all. Goodluck to CCP.

if you're going to cancel, cancel now.

contract your stuff to xennith, ill invest it in capital bpos with my industrial corp and if you come back you can have your isk back at a 20% p/a rate.

scouts honour.

This thread really has run off its original course and I'm sure the OP is wondering, WTF?

No, no WTF. I just bypassed the obvious trolls and looked at the information which was provided. I thank those who gave their input. I am going to jump in and at least give the game a trial. I have one more question which I think will open another big can of worms, but I was reading about the new FPS coming out based on EVE and what happens in the shooter will affect what happens in the MMORPG. Is this correct?

yes, at the moment ownership (sov) of space is determined by who has the most towers in a system. in the next expansion the system in changing to include other things like pvp kills, etc nobody is too sure of the details of this yet but we should see details later on. the soldiers in dust are going to be one of the "other things" that effect system control.

the idea is that eve players hire the mercs, give them guns and vehicals (as we are super rich) and they go off and fight our wars for us. we shall see how it plays out.

Before this turns into a "cant catch up" thread. Its not too late to join, there are lots of new players all starting eve now its one of the only MMOs to still be growing after release. You can start now and be useful in pvp within a week, a lot of the elite corps will not want you to join for about 6 months, but that gives you time to find your feet, get an idea of how the game works and perhaps join a less demanding corp instead.

good luck.

yes, you already told us that you quit.

also: LOL.

well mine has 2 PWNDs and missile rigs and i leave my bomb launcher on it when i flit in from nullsec, but yes.

i used mine in empire to catch wartarget haulers.

there you go, a 3 month old character who has not only caught up, but exceeded many older players.

if you're not getting "good fights", try flying solo for a bit around NPC nullsec, or join a good corp. i hear noir are recruiting.

As far as learning skills go, get them to level 4 first starting with int and mem. then forget them for a month or three while you find a fun ship to while away a few weeks.

Ok, if you want to do PvE, then caldari ships are quite good, but in PvP caldari fall short outside of certain niche roles such as ecm (one of eve's crowd control mechanics), long range sniping and heavy shield tanking. Caldari ships rely on missiles and shields mostly, and a good progression might be:

rookie ship -> kestral (level 1 missions) -> caracal (level 2 missions) -> drake(level3 missions) -> raven (level 4 missions) -> golem / navy issue raven

in pvp you have a choice of the crow / raptor /flycatcher for tackle, the falcon and rook for ecm support and the rokh for sniping.

galente ships focus on drones/blasters and armour tanks, and so are a little more flexible, they work well in both missions and pvp, a good route might be:

rookie ship -> tristan -> vexor -> myrmidon -> dominix (drones)

rookie ship -> tristan -> thorax -> brutix -> megathron (blasters)

basic skillplan should really be to do the tutorial and get into a fitted tech 1 frig. the tutorial will guide you down this path, from there, you want to look at "support skills" which is basically any skill with gives an increase to something that your ship does, so sharpshooter increases turret damage, <racial> frigate increases the bonuses you get from your ship when flying it.

learning skills increase the speed you learn skills at, do these, but not urgently, do some fun things first.

if you want to try pvp, you will need propulsion jamming trained so you can fit a warp disruptor to stop your target running away.

best advice: do the tutorial, read some guides, ask questions in this thread and ill try to answer them.

are you honestly saying that apop was bad because the new ship types it introduced were expensive to start with? its how the market works.

the gfx for the neut, guns, all kinds of ewar were pretty funky, sure the armour repper and shield booster anims look similar, but so what?

apop added the new scanning mechanic which is great, tech 3 ships which look fun and a nice step forward, wormholes which are a wonderful innovation, a major graphics update as well as several new tech 2 mods and some balance tweaks. it was a good expansion, not perfect on deployment no, but patched quickly and overall pretty top dollar.

Ok I'm bored of it already lol I'm tanking easily in my Drake and it has 25k shield where my friend in his Raven has less. I've given this game every chance but it just isn't for me I can't stand how repetitive everything is. Now my friend is angry at me for getting him to resub and I've just quit lol.

i have a strange feeling that i warned you that if you just ran missions you would get bored.

missions in eve are not quests from other mmos, they are more like the wow daily quests, a way to get money and standings to do other things.

can i have your stuff please? contract up to xennith in game.
