Forget everything you know about mmos going in to eve, basic rule of thumb here is that if you are not actively working on a plan to screw someone, somewhere, and take everything they have, you are behind the game.
Never ever undock anything that you cannot afford to lose and comfortably replace, never trust anyone without a very good reason. |

Ill embrace ambulation as a good concept the day that WoW releases a spaceship expansion with backstabbing, metagaming and tears. |

You tried it and found it fun. Thats the only reason to play games. |

A new player will learn more from losing 12 rifters than from KM whoring a thousand industrial kills with 20 mates. But I take your point, flying with an experienced FC will teach you a lot. |

If you want to pvp, either go join red verses blue for a bit, or grab a ship and go roam around lowsec looking for a fight. you'll lose your ships, but thats why you insured them...
the only way to experience pvp is to go and pvp, flip cans, ransom people, fail, get concorded. savour the adrenaline, learn. ignore anyone who says you need X skill, Y ship or Z money before pvping, if you can fit a warp disruptor, you're good to go. |

The trial is free. |

Getting a level 2 agent and getting enough cash together for a bunch of rifters is not doing nothing but missions, it would probably only take a casual player a week or two to do that, especially after doing the tutorials which now kick you out wth a couple of ships and about 3 million isk. |

Im looking forward to this expansion, looks like it might be epicly fun for the civ players amoung us. |

Missions are the most accessable cash making route for new players, nearly every player does that and then moves on to other areas, im not advocating a migration to motsu, but a way to get a toehold onto the eve totem pole. |

If you want intermediate goals, a good strategy is to break it down into steps.
Firstly you need to be self sufficient, so you need a way to make money. The easiest way for new players to get cash and experience in combat is to run missions, missions come from agents and they are ranked into levels. Level 1 missions can be done by a new character in a combat frigate (rifter, kestral / merlin, punisher, tristan). Level 2 missions can be done by a week old character in a cruiser (omen, caracal, rupture or thorax). Level 3 missions are aimed at battlecruisers (hurricane, drake, harbinger or myrmadon). Level 4 missions are battleship missions (raven, dominix, abbaddon, maelstrom).
Or you can do for an industrial route, building or trading both give good money.
My suggestion would be to get a little cash together by doing level 2 missions, and then go buy a dozen frigates and go lose them in pvp. The earlier you get into the pvp side of eve the better. |

I like the falcon fitted with blasters, i tend to lose them a fair bit but they are fun to fly. Or you could fit a covert cyno to a rapier and use a bomber gang a couple of systems back as your dps. Or use a normal cyno and bring in a carrier or 6.
The pilgrim is apparently an ok ship to fly, you have to be careful but with the web changes and a lowsec plate + afterburner you can easily outpace anything that can track you, just pick your targets. |

New faction battleships, apparently tech 3 frigs are coming, but I expect some kind of fuel hauler and tech 1 battlecruisers at some point. |

Im cross trained into all races, but my character is about 3 years old. If you cross trained straight from the start, youd need to invest perhaps an extra 2 days of training. Race doesnt affect the speed you learn skills. |

you have a couple of choices, stealth bombers, force recons and strategic cruisers.
each race has their own of each of these ships, the bombers are all roughly identical (except the caldari one is best), the force recons are a question of taste (i prefer the caldari or amarrian ones as they are closer range) and i have no idea on the strategic cruisers, but i hear the loki is pretty dire. |

Theres a saying in EVE which runs along the lines of "u mad?" which I think works quite well here. UK have not taken any systems from the northern coalition, and frankly im amazed that you could describe the taking of J6 as the result of an exploit. Sylph forgot to pay the bill and this was the price. We were hit by a bug, we rolled with it and came out on top. The only difference being that a server crash is unpredicatable, but any FC will tell you not to jump into a hostile fleet in very heavy lag. Like I said earlier, keep blaming our successes on developer hacks and conspiracy theories rather than learning any lessons. |

Speaking of which, we got caught out by a CVA + pets RR bs fleet the other day and got a very bloody nose. Or at least our sniper BS did.
Today, the server crashed when we had a hostile station into structure, when the server came up it had gained half its shield and armour, instantly wiping out about 3 hours work for our small fleet, and that gave CVA time to rally a couple of its pilots and a big group of pets and come to try to take out our TCU. Crying doesnt help, shooting the other guy until he dies does. If you want to sit there and blame all your mistakes on lag or exploits rather than learn and get better, feel free. Means I lose less ships.
Edit: For the interested, with the help of Atlas the provi attack was beaten back, SBUs destroyed and the station is now liberated. |

I can understand your frustration at losing a capfleet like that, but claiming theres a big conspiracy by CCP to give us our old space back is a bit odd. The fight for D-G was lost as soon as the caps jumped out, jumping them back in was a mistake by the FC, not some crazily convoluted plan. |
|
|
Hence the reason that I said it was just a sideline...
Seriously, CCP Atlas swung the fight for UK and AAA? Not the CVA FC deciding to jump out, then jump back into a system with around 900 people in it? |
|
|
wha?
CCP deliberatly sabotaged CVA + LFA + AM + Paxton + -7- + FCON + CSA + TREAD, etc taking the side of UK and .-A-,? and thats the only reason that they lost? Thats some good quality drugs there. |
