can't blaim sony tho, it's a good marketing ploy.  they are just a bunch of money grubbing fools... i mean every expansion for their original product you have to pay full msrp for until the next great expansion comes out. or until they woop out the ole Platinum edition...

in EQ2, they have in-game content that you can only get if you pay the extra $4.99 to get it, in the coming months.  it's sad but true...

i can't blaim them for wanting money.. it's only american to want such.  but it's just getting sad the way they are going about it.  they are only giving out peanuts and people are paying for it like it was caviar.

I mean they could poop in a bag and put the EQ label on it and people will buy it.. it shows ;p

So in other words.. if you haven't bought it yet and are on the fence about it, i would wait a good 6 to 9 months.  by then it'll be a free download probably or close to it.  and there will be a lot more content and bugs will have been worked out mostly.. *hopefully*

And it will probably then be worthwhile to play by then... So find something else to occupy time and look into playing EQ2 or WoW or whatever.. by the time they get boring.. then Ryzom will probably have most of their issues worked out.

but no game is ever perfect and i sure don't expect them to be, but some of the basics in game making is to make a product most people can enjoy.  having content in the game, smooth gameplay and decent eye candy with a all around good story to drive the game around and to give it's players purpose for playing.  other little anicdotes are welcomed also, like little games within the main game.  and overall having a majority of the bugs stomped out.  Minor stuff is ok and is normal.  But Ryzom lacks all but 1 of the 5 things here.  and that is the decent eye candy.. other than that, the rest is either bugged or lacks in-game story content.  there is no way to know what exactly you are "supposed" to be doing.  other than the website background story .. you don't have anything else to go by.  it's just all poorly implemented. and no in-game music either.  it's like they took one step forward and 3 steps backward when they released this game.  IMHO of course :) have a nice day

after the week of stress test...
all of them look cool and seem cool to play.  i played an orc and darkelf rogue and i find an orc rogue much more fun to play.   i have no one favorite personally, except the gnome.  don't really see myself playing a gnome at any given time.   but i will have a character of each race eventually :)

you know there are alot of ways to dual class but the one key factor when doing this, you must think to yourself, how effective will you be for a group?

A paladin/white mage will only be half as effective as a normal white mage and you won't be able to tank like a true paladin/warrior.  Your only viable option with that combo to be truely helpful to a group you would have to go with a 2handed sword.  So you can assist the groups normal white mage and at least do some decent damage in turn, you will eventually pull some aggro.  but you won't be able to take alot of damage because your evasion skill will always be low do to you taking a non-standard melee class.  It just seems that it will be hard to find a party.  Not to mention hard to play.

Even a white mage/ paladin, first you will have to do the option above first. because the only way to level a job is to have it as your main job.  so you will have to deal with said above for awhile until you hit at least lv 30 paladn then switch back to white mage which will allow you to get up to the lv 60 cap for a maxed subjob.
The one biggest problem with a whm/pld is the fact you will end up with a bit higher CHR score than normal because paladins have fairly high charisma.  Charisma being the stat that controls your Enmity ability.  Enmity being your ability to Hold Aggro.  The last thing you want as a whm is the have More aggro.

Now with all that said you also must understand that either way your mana pool is going to be low, and even if you are a Taru.  But taru would be the only probable option for it work well at all.

My suggestion if you just HAVE to play that setup, i would first level warrior up to level 15.  Then take your paladin and sub it with warrior.  You can solo this way or with a white mage sub until you hit about level 16 as paladin.  this way you will work your evasion skill fairly well.  But when you think you can't solo anymore, just sub out with the warrior and try and be the main tank for groups until you get your Paladin to level 30.  Then after that you can try to see how the whm/pld works out for you.
But if that don't seem to work well for groups, then just level blm up to level 30 with whm sub, then swap out and try to get level 70+ with whm.  then work on your paladin as said.

Once you have paladin up to level 37-40 then you are good for being maxed as a subjob.  then once you have your whm at max level there is no need for groups for xp, you can do as you like at that point.  So whm/pld is your thing, go for it.  But you will have to perfect some kind of setup that will make you very viable in a group otherwise.

But you say you want to be a defensive healer, have you tried a Red Mage?  To save yourself all the hoopla of all the said above.  Red Mages are great like that, they are great to solo with even up to level 30ish.  You have alot of spells and skills to your disposal.  Once you get the spell called Phalanx, which will make a Red mage very tankable.  you could viably sub Red mage with Warrior after that and be an interesting combo.  You could enfeeble, keep the mages ready to go with Refresh and be tankable as a secondary tank with phalanx.  If you care to be more effective as a Red Mage though, sub black mage for elemental seal.  Or if you want to heal better go with white mage as a sub for divine seal.  But for you i would highly recommend this selection.

whatever, all politicians have messed up, and none of them are prefect.  The last truthful and honest president we've had was Abe Lincoln.

It's a power game... But i don't see how Bush lost by 500,000 votes though.  that's all rumor... but what isn't rumor is the Fact that Gore tried to not allow the military vote count do to it was somehow "late".  Washington sets forth the said date they are to be sent in, and they are sent in on said date.  But knowing that a majority of those votes are for Republican... which is a strategy move to try and win also.

The war had to be done, Clinton set on his hands after the USS Cole was bombed and didn't do anything about it.  Why?  because it was in the middle of election time.  why would he want to goto war in the middle of an election?  not good... I guess everyone forgets those little details.  Clinton knew all about terrorism getting targeted toward the US.

The war on Iraq had to be done, Saddom was no different than Hitler.  He was a man bent on world conquest.  and he only lacked the funds to do so... so he invaded kuwait .. he wanted to control the worlds oil.. and in that way he in turn could eventually control the world.  It's the life blood of every country.  So he needed to be dealt with and killing him and removing him from power was the only way.  even trying to bribe the rebels within his own country wouldn't work... we've tried that for the past century and it hasn't worked.  and with the oil embargo that the UN wanted that only the US and the UK has been doing anything about... forking out all the money and resources to do so... Hasn't worked.  So... i'm glad we finally got rid of him.  and are taking measures to insure another tyrant isn't put back in power there.  More than likely with a good government, all of it's native people that fled here to the US to gain a better life for themselves by going to college and such and could help go rebuild their homeland with their new found education and wealth. Nevermind the cost... it had to be done and the US and UK are the only ones with the resources and the balls to do so.

But nevertheless, until we get off our capitalistic asses and figure better uses and better means for fuel other than fossil fuels we are doomed.

So Both sides weren't on the up and up.

You pretty much have to decide on the lesser of the two evils on all accounts, until that next great one comes along... which i don't think will happen for another century.

1) Nicely written Missions and Quests. The Scenematic cutscenes are revolutionary a standard that most won't be able to touch for awhile.

2) the graphics are outstanding, animation as well.  the sound effects and such all around the game are just amazing.  Also keep in mind that to really see all of this in it's full glory you will probably need a fairly high end system (i.e. P4 3ghz+) with a really top of the line video card(nvidia 9500, ATI 9800 XT).  The main reason i wouldn't bother with the PS2 version.  You will lose alot of the visual quality for sure.

3) very unique method of crafting, well developed player economy.  Auction houses and the like. I know some other games like SWG and Horizons use this.  but i'm sure it's a standard for all new games coming out.  If they don't, then they are  behind the power curve.

4) Very interesting combat gameplay.  With all the special skills which is very unique with all the animations and graphics involved.  but they have what they call Renkeis that the whole group can participate in.  And when taking advantage of this and using the weakness element of the creature  you are fighting plus the use of Mana Bursts with the Renkeis you are able to do crazy damage and take on much tougher critters than your average group.

5) The interface is very intuative and is clean, it stays out of the way by default to allow you to enjoy more of the game instead of having to try and look through a cluttered interface that covers up 60% of the screen.  Which of course all or most of the funtions in the game are customizable.

6) No need to have mutliple characters! some may complain that they have to pay a whole $1 more for each character.  Well in most games each character only has the option of being ONE Class/job type.  But in FFXI your one little character can be every job in the game and changing jobs is like changing a suit of clothes.  you enter your mog house, change to X job, grab your gear out of your Safe or Storage and presto, your whatever, whenever.

7) you can dual class to whatever combonation you want.

8) Every person has their own House, No need to pay anything, it's there all the time, you can decorate it and all that.  Just can't invite friends over.. but truefully i could care less.  But within your humble abode you have a moogle that keeps you company.  You are able to tons of things like grow plants that sprout resources and special items in the game or just basic plant items also :)

9) if you aren't in your home town and need to get something out of your safe.. then no worries, you are able to talk to a guard near the residental area to have your moogle temporarly placed there and you have a rent-a-room.  which you don't actually have to pay rent.. but that's just what they call it.

10) not to mention a ton of very unique quests later in the game.  of course you have your very basic stuff at the beginning.  but even some of thoes basic quests are very different than most other games to date.  and yet alot seem quite original.

11) It's Final Fantasy!, gotta love Square-Enix.  They have a clue... of course this game applies to those that are really a FF fan.  It has alot of memorable stuff in-game and has the overall feal of a FF game.  Probably the biggest reason for such a lover or hate feeling amongst most.  i've met a few that enjoy the game even though this is their first FF game period.

The tonberries and cactuars are in-game and nasty and just as funny as always.  *shivers* damn those needles...

There are jobs that work best for you, jobs that don't, jobs that work well, and jobs that don't. There is no magical, super duper combination. It depends on which traits you want to emphasize.

right, but the low magic aspect probably is the key.. so basically if you want to go a melee type either go all out as in warrior or monk i guess if you want samurai.  which would make sense i guess.  But it would be nice to have some basic magic skills if you want to solo once in awhile.  if soloing is even concevable?

this is just a repost from another thread..  figured the other one was quite dead.

Hey Samusic,

Don't mean to bug ya with a dumb question, which may have been answered multiple times.. but nevertheless i'm trying to understand things right so as not to get disappointed down the road of playing.

But anyway, I was hoping to start out as a Redmage and later on get Samurai as my main class and keep redmage as my support class.

I was just curious if that would work.. and if not, what is the best support class for a samurai, i'm figuring it probably is monk.. but i'm not 100% sure.

appreciate the help nonetheless.
