 Hurry up Incarna

Socket 1366 is better than the i5's/1156 socket because the 1156 socket cpu's have a media chip thingmajig, and the 1366's don't, so you wont be limited to the speed of the chip, unlike the latter.

So, there you have it. But I still wouldn't buy an extreme, I'd buy a i7 920.

You make an article about some why some MMO's suck.

Might as well make your next article about which MMO's suck, because most of them that do suck (probably all) have done what your article says.

They may try to fix it.

But it'll already be too late.

I'm no fanboy, because I don't troll on the forums, I read occasionally.

But from a neutral point of view, I don't see why anyone interested with Star Wars and Sci-Fi in general wouldn't absolutely love this game.

it's being made by awesome RPG developers, who have the money to do what they want, and above all things George Lucas is actually playing it and testing it himself.

I'm sure we all have high expectations for the game, and Bioware know this, and they have to live up to it.

And if they do, it will be an overnight success.
(That is of course if they don't screw up with an update and ruin a lot).

 Hi guys and girls,

I've been playing Dragon Age and Eve mostly this past week, and while Eve is great, it isn't a game I can play really hardcore at the moment. Dominion is coming and the alliance and allied space is blue skies, with very little chance of red.

So it brings me on to what to play until something big comes along, or just play on the side, I've always been a hardcore MMO'er and games usually don't burn out until they offer no challenge or very little appeal.

What I've played:
AoC
EQ
WoW
What I've tried:
PotBS
EQ2
SWG
Allods
Alganon
WAR

The thing is, I'm not sure what game will give any appeal to me, I'm considering resubbing to AoC but there seems little to no change and mixed feedback as usual.
WAR isn't for me, and Aion doesn't seem to be too good, as most of the reviews and feedback are the same.

I'm considering anything, but I don't want my time to be wasted, I've gone so far as to consider reactivating WoW and playing that for a bit.

Any suggestions are welcome and will be taken into account. Thanks.

I just thought it was funny when zevran tried to hit on my male character and then i had to reject him and then he betrayed me later.  Only in bioware rpgs.

Zevran hit on me as well. He actually goes both ways funnily enough.
I only chose him in the end because Morrigain only does it with a character once, until the end... If you choose the option anyway.

Supposedly Lelaina is also a companion, but only for males. Somehow you can trick her into having a threesome with Zev, and your character. Interesting. Although I still only have her as neutral and not friendly yet...

Zev will only betray you if his standing towards your player character is under a certain amount, choose the right options when the opportunity arises, and you'll keep him...

Pretty cool game IMO.

Bioware has a lot to live up to making a game related to Star Wars.

I think, from speculation, it's either going to be a huge hit, and lots will flock to it.
Or, it will be fairly mediocre, and not live up to expectations, and will be a pretty "meh" game.

I don't think there will be a middle, it's either a failure, or massive win.

Just my $0.02

I thought I wouldn't mention WoW, but I have to:
I don't think -many- WoW players will play SWToR, or if they do it will be the few mature ones, ones who aren't your typical WoW players.

The community will be a big factor in SWToR.

I've been looking for a group for main system and cistern for over 2 hours on the Cimmeria server.

Global is full of trolls talking about complete crap.

I have yet to see anyone.

Why is this game even alive? Where is everyone?

Ok, i asked this question on the eve forums and i got spammed and off topic like you wouldnt believe becaues people thought i was ridiculing the game. infact i am not, i am putting together what i know of the game and asking what is there to do?

There are a few qualifiers though, as a trial account i don't have limitless time to train though if i find any worth in it i wil invest in this game. so please don't say "get some BPCs throw go mine a bit, put together a frigate then go rat untill they come back blah blah blah" all that stuff requires specialized training, which i don't have time for. I also have been told you can scam and stuff but im not the kind of person to do that. Pirating is fine but to intentionally lie to some one just to get a bit of isk? i think that is just shallow.

This is what i believe there is to do so far:

1) Missions- you get missions, you do them you get isk. This to me feels like im doing the same mission over and over and over and over --- and over ---------- and over ---------------------------------- and over. The thing that takes the edge off of it is talking to random people in local and chatting with people in the corporation (the factional corp) I only have level 1 missions but i have heard that missions don't get any better till level 3s, and i don't have the patience or time to grind my standings up to get level 3 missions

2) ratting. This was useless because in high sec space the pirates give hardly any isk, and is just like missioning only you go to alot of empty asteroid fields. I went to low sec space and this is my horror story -- i just got my brand new vexor, and i spent just about all my isk on fitting it. I am in a dead space complex where i thought i would be safe, but no. a tier 2 frigate jumped in and shot down my shields and armor before i even noticed it. so now i'm poor and stuck at the gallente starting station... wonderful

3) PvP, i have never been on the offensive in PvP because im not in a corp and i havent had the chance.

4) mining, highly specialized, something that you need to spec into. i made an alt and trained everything i could for a basic miner just to find out that trials can't use haulers. waste of time

5) industry, requires some specialization but it helps to mine so i  have been told, instead of buying all your resources which (as i have been told) can turn out no profit at all.

Ok, as I recently got back into eve and started a new character as my old one was... Crap, and before all the newbie friendliness came in, I was lost. I can help!

Number 1 - under social skills there's a skill called connections - it will raise your effective standing with corps and agents, I have mine at level 2, and I have access to high quality level 1 agents, and level 2 agents, the higher you train it, the higher your standing.
If you want to be a pirate, train diplomacy, and talk to a pirate npc and get missions from them, that's the easy pirate way, there's other pirating activies though.

Number 2 - try to get into a decent player corp in an alliance, that way you can get into their nullsec controlled space and rat there, though nullsec is stronger than 0.4 - 0.1... But it was a mistake going into low sec without scouting the area first (in a noobship preferably). Check local.

Number 3 - See above about corps.

Number 4 - Meh, up to you what to do, I use an exequror atm for mining. I trained up to use tier 2 mining lasers, I can do it quite well, but it is specialised, it comes really profitable in deadspace roid belts and mining barges / exhumers.

Number 5 - Try reproccessing loot, it turns into stuff, I dabbled into it and got hobgoblins made, was a neat little profit but it's not my thing, I hear you can make ALOT of money off it, but it is - of course, helpful if you do high level missions and mine.

Try salvaging mission wrecks for extra cash, level 1's can still turn in a tidy profit from spending an extra 5 minutes salvaging the wrecks.

Download EVEMon too.

Here's a quick answer:

Almost all MMO's that are new are trying to be WoW, or WoW Killers.

WoW is like all other MMO's

Eve is neither of the above.

Longer answer:
AoC impelented mounted combat, and gore. (WoW is bringing in mounted combat, there's a little more gore too)
Warhammer introduced whatever they did (WoW is probably bringing in whatever too)
X MMO had a great (X) idea (WoW will probably do that too).

Blizzard is good at what they do, they like ideas, not only that but they do it well.
AoC was a flop, there were many holes, but it had great ideas.
WoW and Blizzard have the backing, and the great experience of all things, and they will implement it, and people will love it, not only that but MOST of the people that play the game will love it. Argent Tournament anyone?

The reason Eve is so big is because it's nothing like WoW, it doesn't try to kill WoW, it's just what it is, a sandbox, linear outline, but you make the game do what you want to do. The quests are repetetive, sure, but there's different ways to go about it, etc.

Want to make money? Be industrial, or a pirate, or a mission runner.
Want a risky life? Be industrial in low sec, a pirate, or a mission runner in low sec.
Or whatever else.

I play Eve and WoW, and have a high level AoC character.
I'll be paying for Eve only soon.

Personally, I think the whole of PC Game releases last and this year have been pretty "meh" in general.
While Eve is fun for some and a quick fix, missions are all the same and I don't get too interested in it.
WoW is getting boring after this many years playing it.

The last couple of MMORPG big releases such as AoC, WAR, PotBS have let us all down a little, we were expecting more but they never lived up to it. They all certainly let me down anyway.

I'm *hoping* the new star wars game will be good, but I am set for a let down, as Sci-Fi isn't my favourite genre, but it's still a long way off anyway, I've yet to hear about my beta app.

5) If I'm not lucky, the install will stop every five minutes and ask me to insert another CD.
Most games these days have a DVD version available. No need to insert another DVD unless it is massive, and in some cases there are double sided DVD's, and even there is double layer DVD's.

Touche, but I still occasionally run into games that are on multiple CDs. A couple years back I purchased the Dawn of War Gold edition and it had about four DVDs in it. In fact, any bundle that includes the original game plus expansions is going to have multiple DVDs.

Expansions. Plural. If there was an XBox game as big as say, Dawn of war Gold, you would have to enter multiple CD's to get the benefiet of them all, and they'd leave some of the game files on the HD of some sort.

6) After the last CD has installed, I'm then asked to insert Disk 1 and am asked if I want to install Gamespy Arcade, Xfire, Yahoo toolbar, or any other crapware that the developer is getting a gratuity check from.
See above, however you can just click no, XFire though is a good choice of software. And so is Gamespy arcade if you prefer that rather than the basic server browsers.

The point being that I shouldn't have to decline this shit. If I want it, I'll just download it and install it myself. K?

They pay the developers to include their software with the game, thus the devs get money to pay their workers to work on the game and then some.

8) The game loads to the title menu at a whopping 4 frames per second.
Read the minimum requirements before buying,

And you've never bought a game that didn't run correctly even though you had the recommended system specs? How long have you been playing PC games? Supreme Commander anyone? Crysis? I understand the Empire Total War has a bad case of the crashes as well. Sure, these things get patched... eventually, but I've never had a console game crash. Console games either run, or they don't run.

Never bought Supreme Commander. Crysis recommended settings I assume means you can play the game, just. Empire Total War I am able to run on medium, crashes happen because it's a badly developed game, Empire anyway.

9) I then spend the next two hours in the graphics options adjusting resolution, texture detail, model detail, particle effects, anti-aliasing settings, and various other cryptic shit until I have about 24 frames per second, at which point the game looks less like the screen shots on the box and more like Quake 2.
Again, see above. 2 hours though is a long time and you are certainly exaggerating a little bit.

Duh! Congratulations, you've learned to spot sarcasm.

10) Back at the title menu now, I start up the game and get told that I need to patch to the latest version and the game dumps me to the desktop and starts the updater that spends the next three hours downloading shit.
Patches as good.

And yet, I've never had to wait an entire afternoon to get a patch for an XBox game....

I assume the game had no problems that were bad then, congratulations. With games like WoW or AoC new content is released and fixes are issued, the main space user is the new content, new content is always good. COD:WaW patches had included some maps if I'm not mistaken.

The Steam version foregoes the first 7steps and doesn't allow  you to play your games offline.
You can play single player offline in *offline mode*.

I used to have no problem, but lately I've been unable to run Steam games with my wireless turned off. Then again, it may just be that I'm running from a different machine... <shrugs>

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against consoles. I just never bought any of the newer ones as their will be a new one every so many years. You fork out 700 bucks for a ps3 and in a few years time it will be defunct. Fork out 700 dollars for an awesome gfx card and you will be able to play many games for the years after, just not the newest ones of high settings. And there will always be games made for the PC, whereas after a few years of the ps3 or xbox being old, games will cease to be made...

PC's can be used for many many things, home entertainment, file sharing, internet browsing, gaming and can run multiple OS's. With a ps3 or xbox you got gaming, home entertainment, and maybe browsing. And can really only run one OS, unless you want to risk the chance of getting banned for a modified system.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.  The Playstation 2 was released in 2000. The Playstation 3 was released in 2006. Your video card really isn't going to last that long and still play the newest games. There will always be games made for the PC? Thats adding spin. There are games made for NEW PC's, not old PC's. The computer your bought 6 ~ 7 years ago is not going to run the games of today.

The thing is, nearly all the things you mentioned you can do on a PC, you can do on a PC you can pick up for free at the junkyard.

I spend 1000$ on a gaming PC a few months ago, and the only thing I currently use it for is internet browsing and chat as most of my gaming is done on my consoles. The quality of PC games have seriously gone down the drain as most developers now would rather develop for consoles than PC.

I bought my 6600GT when it was released (2004). I still have it in good working condition to this day and I can play COD4, and COD:WaW. Those are the games of today, though COD4 was released fall of 2007.

The PC being Personal Computer, not my computer, THE PC. The computer I bought 6 - 7 years ago can play COD4 and WaW and WoW, I have not tested it on newer games, as I have a new and better computer.

I believe the quality of games in general has gone down, I am not too happy with many released games 2007 - 2009 so far, WaW was crap, AoC had a terrible launch but seems to be recovering, the only game I really enjoyed was WoTLK, the others I only play casually, I am however looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins which is to be released this year some time. Empire: Total War is a good game to play as well.

We can piss an moan about hardware specs and control configurations all day long and get no where on this issue. The real bottom line here is the number of games and the ease of use. Let's compare...

Console:

1) I buy, or rent, a game.

2) I turn on the console, put the game in and the game runs.

3) If I'm on XBox live, I may have to download a patch, but that normally doesn't take more than three minutes tops and then I'm playing the game.

PC (retail):

1) I buy, becuase you can't rent, a game.

2) I turn on my PC, put the game in and the autorun begins begins the installation wizard.

3) I am then required to aggree to an End User License Agreement before the game asks me to enter a 25 digit alphanumeric key located on the CD sleave / case.

4) At this point, the game begins installing. If I'm lucky, the install will take about ten minutes.

5) If I'm not lucky, the install will stop every five minutes and ask me to insert another CD.
Most games these days have a DVD version available. No need to insert another DVD unless it is massive, and in some cases there are double sided DVD's, and even there is double layer DVD's.

7) After declining all that shit, I click the finish button with the launch game radio button clicked.

8) The game loads to the title menu at a whopping 4 frames per second.
Read the minimum requirements before buying,

9) I then spend the next two hours in the graphics options adjusting resolution, texture detail, model detail, particle effects, anti-aliasing settings, and various other cryptic shit until I have about 24 frames per second, at which point the game looks less like the screen shots on the box and more like Quake 2.

Patches as good.

11) With the update finally installed, I restart the game and click on "new game" on the title menu. I then get to see the opening cinematics using the in-game engine and play the first ten seconds of tutorial when the game crashes and I find myself back on my desktop.

The download version of the PC game experience is different only in that you spend 6 to 10 hours downloading the game and you don't have to swap CDs.

The Steam version foregoes the first 7steps and doesn't allow  you to play your games offline.
You can play single player offline in *offline mode*.

PC elitists can call console gamers retards all they want. Take a look at that list and tell me who is really the retard in this situation.

I voted RP without reading it all. PvP is the way to go to make other peoples life a miserable hell...

Conqueror is able to do what you want - kill fast and take a reasonable amount of damage.

Barb is good fun too though, but way easy to kill, takes patience to play. Lol.

Don't get me wrong here but with Windows 7 coming out around the corner there's no need to buy Windows Vista 64Bit. 32Bit will be fine to run AoC on high with those specs - I have a lesser video card and can run it on high with my 24" screen - the only thing you need to look out for is the AA - I believe if you have it too high the game will go black - atleast it does for me.

Optical drive - if you want blu-ray go for it, otherwise a dvd reader/writer combo will be fine.

The video card is fine, I think the ATI one is still better? The 7940X2 (I think that's the model number) one. Essentialy two video cards in one.

Corsair RAM - fine, seems cool, I'm not a big techie when it comes to putting computers together.

My monitor is a Samsung 24" Syncmaster 2433BW, I am extremely proud to own one and it just pwns, youtube it and you'll find great reviews! It's fairly cheap too and the colour depth amazes me so much it's crazy. Coming from a BenQ 19" that was 4 years old it's like having a CRT.

HD - Segate Raptor I believe are fast, WD is still good as well. Size is fine, idk how you can fill it up though lol.

Sound card - onboard suits me, others will say you get better out of a proper sound card, personal preference.

Speakers - go for it if you have the money, I prefer headphones for gaming.

Wireless - now here's the problem, wireless for gaming is a no-go-zone for hardcore people, wireless gaming isn't cool IMO, I prefer a LAN cable, you will notice a difference, so try to go for LAN, if it isn't an option make do with it though, you wont like it though.

I hear there's still problems with software and games for 64bit compared to 32bit, I am fine with 32bit even though it doesn't make use of the full 4GB of RAM. I have no probs.

That above there is my ISP's website for their games. They're based in Australia so it couldn't be too bad, and IIRC it's the early access client, so...

Anywho enjoy the game, roll on a different server other than Bloodspire, it's quite dead. 2 weeks they expect more server transfers to be working due to a bug, I hope it will be less time.

There's times when I love WoW, and there's times when I hate it and it gets boring.

In the case of that I go looking for an MMO to replace WoW and it doesn't live up to my expectations and I just go back to WoW. I think MMO's are just bad for me in general. FPS games aren't much better, they're all repetative as well.

So, to be honest, I think 2008 was just a crap year in general. Hopefully 2009 holds some good games to come out, I'm looking at Bioware's single player mRPG (dragon: origins) and SW:TOR (whenever it will be released) possibly even Darkfall, and Jumpgate, though I really aren't interested in them.

It's a waiting game, I'm afraid.

I've re-subbed, and started a fresh on Cimmeria, I see plenty of new characters like myself running around Tortage so it's good. There's some groups going for early quests, and I joined a guild.

I see Tortage has not changed a bit so the questing will be a bit tedious I just hope afterwards I can stand doing them all again. I'm not fussed about quests drying up at 75 as I could just get a grind group going or just grind levels solo, though I would be more impressed if a grind group would let me in and we can all flail away at monsters.

I've rolled a Bear Shaman, I've died heaps already, I just hope the latter levels are easier. Leveling as a Conqueror and Ranger were much easier. Maybe I'll try a Necro.

Anyway, if it all fails to be eye-catching I'll just cancel my sub again, no big loss.
