I'm somewhat appaled at the number of TSW die-hards who apparently weren't interested in GW2 then bought it and now are reaffirming their support for TSW. Like, wtf? You didn't like it, you bashed it, you ended up buying it because of what other people said, came back and said you still don't like it. I just seems extremely hyprocritical and illogical to me. |

Less than 1 Day and Leveling/Economy were broken.
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 8/26/12 7:23:20 PM
I don't see why this matters as you'll be scaled down in areas that you outlevel. They're missing out on DEs, areas, and etc to rush endgame for what? PVP auto levels you to 80 and there aren't any raids out. You have karma but no mats for crafting.
Sounds like they removed incentives to rush 80, but you can still do it if that's important to you. |

Isn't this like being a 5 year relationship with a girl you love and then meeting the new girl at work who is cute and fun as hell? You start questioning your long-term relationship and perhaps go out with the new girl after telling your girlfriend you wanted a break. A few weeks later you're regretting your decision because new girl is too different and you want to reconcile, except in this case WoW wants you back but your ex is hooking up with your best friend. |

For all you know it could be two brothers paralyzed in a terrible car accident who dedicated themselves to reaching level 80 in the first two days to feel proud of something. Why speculate and just say "grats to you" and move on? I'm sure s/he might make an alt and have fun going through the game casually. |

Therefore you have a lower health pool than a warrior to offset the differences. Survivability "should" be equal between the two classes but I haven't played either class to say definitively. |

Maybe not for you but at least respect other peoples' opinions on the matter. You wouldn't make fun of someone who likes macaroni and cheese just because you don't like it.

Are you dodging? Are you kiting? If you're static while attacking mobs you'll get hit. Try running in a large oval

What the hell is wrong with you people? The player wanted to reach level 80 as soon as possible and that's his perogative. What's with the negative attacks? That he must want some giant epeen or that he's a loser in real life? You sound like jealous dolts who insult others' successes to feel good about yourself.

The recent news from Funcom has been pretty bleak. It has made me question my vitrol for TSW. In short it was easy to gang up and lambast the game for its perceived shortcomings. But the more I thought about it, the more I realize there are a lot of talented people who worked to create this game and they honestly want it to succeed. A recent article from Gamescon said the TSW group languished in the EA section and were surprised when one game reporter actually went to talk them. He said they looked beat up, sad, tired. Those words personalized the people behind the game and I felt bad for insulting their work. Something they probably worked a good portion of the last two years on. Part of my resentment came from AoC; the game never lived up to the hype and I was disappointed. I learned about TSW a month before launch and thought Funcom had gotten itself together. I tried out the game but quickly realized while it had some wonderful stuff: ideas, setting, graphics, there were some glaring incompatabilities with what I wanted out of an MMORPG and what TSW provided. This, however, does not negate the fact there are those who thoroughly enjoy the game and who am I to rain on their parade? In short my desire to see this game founder can be ascribed to my my previous interactions with the company as well as my ego. I want to be right; I want to say, "this game won't survive" and project my clarivoyance and knowledgableness onto the masses who still play the game. The only redeeming value from such action is schadenfreude, and that, ladies and gentleman, is the worst type of pleasure one can feel good about. In short I hope Funcom pulls it together and that they are able to maintain a sizable player base as to continue the game. I will refrain from negative posts in the future and hope the best for the game and its players. Cheers |

Posts like these are plain circle-jerks. It's like saying "If you could go back to highschool and reunite with your HS girlfriend" would you do it? Your HS girlfriend was awesome, then she changed, you both changed, went off to college and did new things. You're a different person now than you were before and probably wouldn't enjoy what you liked back then either. It's the same reason your grandparents say "Remember the days when we use to hike 5 miles to school and gas cost 5 cents a gallon?" |

Guild Wars 2 did not copy Rift's rifts and Rift did not copy Warhammer's Public Quests
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 8/19/12 5:45:28 PM
If it was a good idea in other games, why couldn't GW2 refine it and use its own version of the same concept? Musicians do the same thing when they cite influences, carmakers do this to some degree when great novel ideas come out, etc, etc. You make it seem like it's bad or a weird thing that they did this. It happens everywhere. You can't reinvent the wheel but you can definitely make it more efficient and differ on what goes on top of it. |

The only thing I have to say to the people who really enjoy the game, keep playing. Let me use an analogy, the game was like seeing this gorgeous person on a dating website, who you message and you like what they have to say. The game has a great setting, the gameplay screens look wonderful and of couse you agree to the date. On the date you discover she's not quite over her ex. Or that she might have a couple kids. That's ok, let me try and see how things go; you're really attractive and I want to give this a chance. You get to know the person but then you suddenly realize she likes to smoke cigarettes. The things you learn about her start to turn you off, you become disenfranchised. You call it quits when you realize there are glaring red-flags and huge imcompatabilities in your personalities. For you maybe it's different. You can overlook and see all the good in this person. For me I can't, it just isn't worth it. I'm trying to warn others to stay away because I remember I dated a girl like her a few years ago and although they look different the same problems are popping up again. Oh yea, let me add I found out they were sisters. :P |

4 player co-op with regular content updates for a few bucks apiece ala The Walking Dead on steam? I bet they would have made a lot more sales. |

The sample could be biased. Perhaps older players frequent the forums more than people of a younger age group. Or it could be older people feel more inclinced to participate in forum discussions. Lots of reasons why it might not represent an accurate demographic of actual playerbase.

Your estimates / reports on sub numbers
General Discussion « The Secret World 8/18/12 7:18:31 PM
I'd say hovering around 230k, maybe less now. They wanted 490k best scenario, prepared for a age of conan scenario around 300k. They actually said they're falling short of that and I got my numbers by extrapolating from xfire graphs of a couple other MMORPGs, then used that to estimate TSW.

Actually it's probably leftover resentment from AoC and how dare Funcom release another game that is half complete. So if they fail then they got their cum-muffins (comuppance) and hopefully won't ever make the same mistake again.

Salient shortcomings from Oct 2011, why Funcom thought TSW was ready, and guesstimate player numbers.
General Discussion « The Secret World 8/11/12 8:11:24 AM
I tried to extrapolate player numbers, not guess their game attitudes. Those are two entirely different things and quite frankly I think I mwy be fairly close to actual numbers.

280,000 subscribers = 43% profit. 280,000/143 = Each % is approximetly 1,958 subscribers. 1,958 x 100% = 195,800 subscribers to break even. I did a rouch estimate a few days ago in which it seems like they have around or slightly above that number at present. I'll be realistic and question if they can retain them considering new content takes time to build and that there is quite a bit to improve, especially with WoW and GW2 around the corner. I feel they should have released Fall or Winter 2012. |
