i have had my grips with soe  even about h1z1 because initially it is clear to see they wanted us to  "buy" our loot.

but honestly that changed quickly when people complained and not sure if your server is basically overflowing with people and thats why you are struggling to find guns but i have certainly had zero issues finding them on medium servers .tbh maybe way too easy as 30 minutes of play  i am well armed and even leaving weapons behind due to space.

i suspect you play on a full server and only stick to main towns.main towns are a bad idea because thats where armed gangs hang out and clear up waiting to kill someone who runs thru.if you look at a player made map you have a better idea where to go to get weapons.

at present guns are too common in my view.

performance like many others said is very good esp. for a early alpha.

while wow engine is bit smoother then the forgelight engine soe is using for all its recent game the soe engine certainly has more capability  then the wow engine.

so for me overall the forgelight engine wins.

there are other good ones like gw2.

now here a good kicker .hero engine for the price $99 or something is actually not too bad,but certainly it is nothing more then an engine for a small indie company of 1-2 people who are very tight on money .why a big company like bioware who ran on a budget of 100m+ would use it is beyond me and if you google you see a good  number of people quit the game early because of it.i

Seriously

years ago eve did do this and asked its fans to come here and vote and  eve won.

so if any other  company doing it its not new.

be nice to see TSW and LOTRO win though

SWG still exist if you know where to find it.

funny enough i think the graphics  is not bad at all  but the animation is certainly aged

If I could build my system again, I would downgrade from the 8320 to a 6300 or a 6350fx. The 8320(mine at least) generates a crap ton of heat and I can't get an OC over 4ghz that won't peg out at 70c and crash. It may just be the cooler I chose tho, a shadow rock 2.

Heat is likely one of my major issues with AMD and why I usually do not recommend any builds based on their chips since I am not expecting averyone being savvy, concerned, knowledgeable and willing enough to deal with it. One might run into unpleasant issues there.

If I take all that into account, I simply see no reason recommending AMD unless you need specifically more cores or you truly know what you are doing.

using a stock cooler is never a good idea if OCing anyhow.if you not overclocking the heat generated by the amd is not  a problem at all.

if you are ocing while the amd heats faster then intel you really should not be using a stock cooler anyhow for safety reason on neither.

cooler can be bought for £30 which are better then stock cooler .

Although right now, I feel like the AMD makes more sense on the price point

It doesn't, it is your bias only. You were leaning towards AMD before you posted here :)

AMD is simply not a gaming CPU.

totally wrong

http://gamegpu.ru/images/remote/http--www.gamegpu.ru-images-stories-Test_GPU-Action-Battlefield_4-test-bf4_proz_2.jpg

as you can see games which makes use of multiple core the amd 8350 can beat i5 .basically amd has weaker cores but more cores .

tbh this debate amd vs intel is a waste because BOTH easily handle any game out there.

the few it does poorly on  like planetside 2 has long been proven to be due to poor optimization on soe part for amd and since then has been fixed mostly.

pick either cpu and that will do you fine for some years.focus instead on a nice gpu .

strangely its a wonder people do not talk about good psu instead.loads of rubbish ones out there frying computers.people are so focused on amd vs intel when both are quality chipset and then dump a cheap psu in there .

if you can spare the cash or get a good deal get a seasonic .even an older model one which they are trying to clear stock will be a excellent choice.

think people basically answered the 8 core vs 4 core thing

most games are developed not to use more then 4 cores so the other 4 cores in amd 8350 are not used.

some say with ps4 and xbox using a 8 core processor developers might be more willing to make games using more then 4 core but till today that not really happening.

essentially in real gaming terms a i7 performs better then a amd 8350 because their cores are better pure and simple(note i use a amd).

also i7 uses less power meaning in the long term less electricity .

however,a amd 8350 is cheaper then the i7 in inital cost.

personally both will perform nicely for any game.

i went for the amd for 2 reason.i always liked AMD.also the motherboard i wanted  was on sale brielfy for half the price and it was a amd one.

the amd 8350,i7 and i5 will handle all games thrown at it.

in benchmark the best would be i7 then amd 8350 then i5 but in real gaming sense they are hold their own well.

if you are not bothered about which motherboard you use then i say go for the i7 or i5.

however if you plan to dip your hands in the higher end of the motherboard amd ones tend to be cheaper and go on sale more often in the UK at least.

A couple of comments:

Yes, the i7 uses less power, but that difference in power, unless you have the CPU loaded 100% 24-7 (such as server farms, where it is a huge consideration), the difference in your power bills will be pretty negligible. The real benefit there is going to be heat output/overall system noise.

As far as the "Consoles are 8-core so developers will shift to 8-core"... that's pretty well a fallacy. The PS3 has been 7 cores since it's introduction (actually 8 by design, but one is disabled). The 360 is a triple-core CPU. And yet, once you port something to the PC, most straight ports start out heavily single-core dominate, and you only really see a lot of multi-core use in the few titles that started out on the PC and migrated from there.

thats why i say do not buy because it has 8 cores or 4 cores.Buy based on your preference  and budget.i5 or i7 or amd 8350 handles well in games .

as pointed out i find price wise and still giving good performance you get more for your money by combo of amd 8350 with a good motherboard like sabretooth as the higher end motherboard for intel are more expensive.i think i saved £150 by using a amd 8350 with a sabretooth motherboard had i used a similar motherboard with a i7 which enabled me to spend more within my budget on a better then planned PSU and more RAM  with some change left.

Well, considering that next year we're getting all the new 20nm technology (DDR4 RAM, I'm looking at you!), there's no point on going big budget right now. 20nm obliterates current technology, and the stuff you'll be able to get for the same price in 2016 will be mind-boggling in comparison. I'd say go for the cheapest build now (but with quailty parts), and then worry about this again in 2 years.

Cheers!

There's always something new coming, but there's probably nothing critically important coming in the near future.  There's a good chance that the Core i7-4790K that you can buy today will still be the fastest gaming CPU on the market a year from now.  Nvidia just recently launched new top end GPU cards.  It's not clear whether AMD will be able to meaningfully beat them in the near future, and even if so, it's not at all clear how soon.  There's a huge difference between waiting a week versus waiting 8 months.

The primary advantage of DDR4 memory is reduced power consumption.  That's a big deal in laptops and data centers, but not in desktops.  The extra memory bandwidth doesn't matter in desktops, either, unless you're going to feed integrated graphics from it.

It's not at all clear whether there will be any 20 nm parts that matter for desktops.  That Nvidia launched the GTX 970/980 so recently tells me that they're not moving to a new process node imminently.  AMD might, but it's not clear that there is any 20 nm process node appropriate to high-power video cards.

Die shrinks don't even matter anymore for desktop CPUs, unless you believe that eight cores isn't enough and we need more die shrinks so that we can have more cores.  Intel does have some products available on their troubled 14 nm process node, but the fastest of them has a max turbo boost of a meager 2.9 GHz.  AMD, meanwhile, is staying on 28 nm with next year's Carrizo.

The only reason die shrinks matter for DRAM or NAND flash is that you can get more capacity.  For for NAND, never mind 20 nm; Crucial will sell you SSDs with NAND made on a 16 nm process node today.

Really, though, die shrinks are starting to hit a wall as their traditional radiation source just can't etch small enough features very well.  EUV will probably fix that for some years, but it's not ready just yet.

yep technology moves on.

remember when the 280x radeons came out last year it beat the nvidia cards at the same price with it .now nvidia doing same with the newer 970 and 980s (though nvidia always seems to price higher).

radeon will probably launch something new again in a few months and beat nvidia and then the cycle continues when nvidia launches again!

good lord p4 in 2013 lol.

one i build last year was

amd 8350

16gb

asus sabretooth 990

radeon 280x

now it becomes a preference  if you wanna use a i5 or i7 or amd 8350.i can tell you all run fine

i went bit overboard with the motherboard but i always used a budget one and decided for the heck of it use a  nice one this one time.

also do not cheapen out on power supply best to buy a good older model one then rubbish newer model one.

Again i point to dependence.

Firstly i do not believe the old way of doing this that EQ took making you so weak you needed to group for everything and levelling took months to years.

It was annoying because you could end up waiting for hours and get nowhere .

I recall my rogue could not even solo the lowest possible mob for experience so if i did not find a group thats it for the night and it happened a lot.

I think SWG had the right approach to making a community.

Most content was soloable .Without buffs a lot was still soloable.

However, buffs made you go to a cantina  or a city and get buffed. It took 10-15 minutes but it made cities vibrant and people interacted.

Also weapons and armor decayed and you needed food(for buff reason) which meant you shopped around.

Traders made cities look attractive and you  would go there .

And yes  best weapon meant actually physically interacting with a weaponsmith who custom build a weapon most times.

Then you find a slicer either thru tells or yelling for one  to slice the weapon, more interaction.

The limitation to 1 character per server ensured the fact that unless you spent on 4-5 accounts you regularly interacted with  people

think it will be hard to say until the film is released to see what JJ has done with the storyline.
A lot of people saying negative things about SWG are saying it for the problems of star wars when i am actually talking about the game's system such as interaction, sandbox ,housing, crafting and resources.

everquest 1 and 2 i think.

EQ2 could have been a contender!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NlB-mh1hnY

is the answer

nothing about letting go about the past tbh.heck i quit swg prior to nge even and came back briefly only years later .

However, there are some features that made SWG great and developers seems not to pick this and progress on them.

I think reason most mmorpg are failing is they are using same formula over and over again which  is why mmorpg is in such a demise now.

The EQ formula which WoW adopted and games are still been made almost to the letter now (look at SWTOR,TESO,wildstar) are getting very stale and maybe a different approach is needed?

LOL nice one

this is an old debate not sure which is but i think prior to UO they were not using the term mmorpg ,but certainly M59 has all the features we regard needed for a mmorpg.

Actually not here to talk about the NGE which many blame for the final demise of SWG(LA probably had more to do with it but thats a long debate).

Here to talk about why so many good elements of SWG remains unduplicated or enhanced. Most of my reference is before NGE.

I also acknowledge its many faults. such as high system requirement at launch.Poor performance.poor UI but was not bad for 2003.And of course been star wars which meant the creation of a alpha class eventually the jedi and finished off all the remaining sandbox combat mix.also lets not forget pre NGE hunting places were boring ,few and repeatitive(i think nge actually improved this)

1)The true sandbox feel.It had that and pre jedi there were so many interesting combat mixes

2)how much fun it was to be a non combat profession.I was a weaponsmith for 6 months+ exclusively and enjoyed it.I never before or after lasted long crafting anything for more then a few hours.Heck even a friend of mine was a dancer/musican and he recalls it been fun!also the variety was amazing  .

3)the interaction. At launch EQ fans called it star wars cantina .But not only was the cantina lively so was everywhere in the world.I doubt the cap on server was more then 3k but due to the need to interact so much it made the game feel alive and i felt it was more of a mmorpg then those now claiming to have 10k on a server

4)the world.Enough said.it felt alive .amazing for 2003

5)the housing. No one even come close.open housing ,people say oh look at AA it has that and all the prime locations gone.Maybe if it had the size of SWG with all its planets that be a different story. It went further since you build your own cities had elections for mayor ,decorated the city, had a city hall became a market or research centre etc

6)trade.While i would have loved a better search on the trade market ,it still worked nicely and was fun building a name for yourself as a good shop for X

7)shifting resources.some hated it because if you missed out early good spawns you needed to pay for it but heck it was fun waiting for the next spawn of server best to  then find a good concentration and put a harvestor there to build a better new server best weapon or food

8) vendors

9) the space expansion.you needed to play it to know what it felt like.

very doable and remember soe made that xpac in 2003/2004

tbh a lot we can learn from swg but sadly most developers shy from swg as reference due to its demise.

But factors that limited it was not actually its design per say but

been star wars.means all focus went on jedi and rest great designs poorly acknowledged .lucas arts restriction did not help neither !

released in 2003 ,hard on the hardware then and really niche mmo crowd back then it would explode 2 years later.guess you can say a bit ahead of its time!

But yes, should be doable and looking for games that adopt some of the great features of SWG
