While i miss  been able to customize my toon with stats i do remember there been serious loot fights  because of everyone saying they needed that particular item to increase so and so stat .

You are lucky ! Here is a short list of games in 2000+ i have gone thru the world and fallen to death.

DAoC - there was even a spot in some dungeon known for that  and guaranteed to  cause you to fall thru

WoW - yep polished game they say but i have fallen thru the world  here

EQ2 - happened to me last year!

unless you want to alienate a  big chunk of players then  EQnext needs to have fast and instant travel.

I had time years ago to sit on some boat that took 45mins to 1 hour to come and then take another 1 hour to get to a harbour.

Nowadays i barely have  more then 3 hours at best a day of free time and half that time i spent it doing something else.So i am certainly not spending most of my playtime just getting to one spot and be forced to stay there for weeks  due to time restriction.

If the old EQ1 system of travel returns i for one will not bother to play it.

I guess each to his own I know some vets want the old system back from EQ1 but honestly when i think back to how much time was spent getting to certain zones i just laugh how on earth i had that sort of time back then.Heck even WoW  travel as launch seems slow now !

And still the engine does not work properly.

i think this is really the source of bio ware problem and its sad that games made for much less developed their own engine to suit their games in same time frame and yet bio ware could not.

i pointed this out in the first month and said it was a game breaker  for bio ware and quickly got my posts deleted both here and on official forum and even got a warning here for trolling which was bizzare.

bottom line the engine which is the heart of the game was a big fail.what sort of mmorpg  can it be if more then 40 people on a spot in ilium meant  crash or slide show.

the heart is bad  and thus the game suffers.warning to all future mmorpg there is a reason most mmo either make their own engine or Heavily mod a tried and tested one

this is the poll i kept up back in jan 2012 about it even then most agreed that the engine was a fail

by that logic (which i agree) then why would you want to see SoE stopped from making games ?

Just don't play SoE or EA games I know many who love EQ2 and think its the best mmo in the market.I myself have nothing but praise for that game and its made by SoE .

It has the name of the original and the name of the empires and vechiles but it is nothing at all like planetside 1 which now sadly remains unique and dying since SoE has pretty much abandoned it and left it as a sub game .

Sadly I jumped into PS2  hoping to relive my PS1 experience  but ll i found was a battlefield version  with little to do with planetside.

Still have it loaded on my laptop but never play it.

to be honest i think there a market for it  but  most companies will not take that route .If you look at sequels ,the thread is always to making something very different from the original rather then minor tweaks with a new engine and graphics.

The changes are so much at times that the sequals are pretty much  only the original game in name only- planetside 2,AC2,EQ2.

I think the companies are scared of losing their loyals to this new versions .

That said i would love to play an updated UO even with all the newer changes.

I  would actually only play EQ1 in its current state with a upgraded engine and UI(sorry not got time nowadays to do 24 hr camping or 12 hr raids/dungeon  with a 2 yr old!)
