There were viable options in the WoW starting days, but yes there is truth to that...now days there are options for a player...and well made well run very very polished options.  AoC should have thought of that and put out a product to reflect eh current market enviornment....not think they could get away with what was acceptable then.

So in short its not the buyer/players fault that AoC wasnt designed for the current market of polished well run options to a half complete game.

I dont usually do this, but i dont mean it to be a troll or anything.  However on the mainsite news listing...it says Depoyment rather than Deployment.  A minor typo, but thought I would let  you know  just in case you wanted to edit.

Ok this is a direct quote from a Blizzard Rep. in the D3 forums.  He is responding to some un-called-for trolling and name calling.  Check it...Ill never forget reading this one.

Well, thank you. We all work here because we love games. Personally, "my game" before coming to work here was Diablo II. So being in a position that's not only at the company producing the Diablo games, but to be so closely involved in the project is extremely exciting. I wouldn't dream of taking credit for the history of the company, but I definitely share in your thanks.

One thing to remember while ... well, being alive, is that there will always be someone ready to complain about anything, and while it isn't your job to really deal with that and interpret the overall sentiment properly, it is my job.

For me, this kind of thing is old-hat. I'm more than capable of dealing with it, and more than capable of reading what needs to be read, delete what needs deleting, and (more often than not) laughing at what needs to be laughed at. I realize for many here it may be a new experience. The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery.

These types of reactions have become commonplace, and beyond that easily and widely spread, mimicked, and perpetuated. It's become commonplace for feelings of question or doubt to turn immediately to ire and disdain. Perhaps it's the nature of anonymity on the internet, perhaps it's a nationally bred sense of entitlement, or perhaps it fills some sort of primal urge that many lack fulfillment of in their day-to-day lives.

Whatever the case, it's a game, it's a forum, and it's best not to get too wrapped up in it all.
We're going to keep working on making games.

All things in moderation, and all things in perspective.

There is nothing wrong with WoW, its the game it is. SImple as, im sorry for all those people who have gotten bored, or hate that it has consumed so much of the market that they feel thier tiny game has been squeezed out.  No im not a fan boi, there are alot of things i miss, like the old UO pvp and sandbox style.  BUT WoW does alot of good, and has alot of polish, and the fact that a company as sucessful as Blizzard can look back at such a huge success as TBC was and say look where is where we FU%$ED up....here is a step towards fixing.  And no i dont expect massive sweeping changes...thats what you do when you had it all wrong from the start or you wanna screw things up big time often in the other direction.

Blizzard has and will continue to make good fun quality games that copies will sell in the millions because of this very idea they hold that every past release had flaws and ways to improve....its not about making huge sweeping changes, its about making the right ones that fit...and that is what Blizzard does.  Sorry to all you people who want to see them screw thing up like AoC or the such...but they dont do that...or they would be as small a company as Funcom...or sucked into SoE or EA....Get over your childish hate, and enjoy the good solid fun games Blizz will and always will make.

PEACE

Its funny to me to see the WoW screen shots get pushed under the table, even when they are actually neat screens just because of a handful of angry MMORPG.com forum bouncers dont like WoW....or is it sad...ah well. Flame away or call me a troll, but i have noticed it.

Yep i am of the same feeling to for WoW.  I come home from work call up my bro his wife etc a couple friend and we get on and enjoy the game for a while, and voicechat is really nice.  Its just what it is.  A fun, easy going (if you want it to be) well polished online game.  Its easy to pick up and play and even my most inept sister and law picked up on it easily enough and enjoys the game.  I have several different characters ive built up and just play diff. ones depending on whoever wants to play at the time.

Its a great game.  And if u ignore the lil pink general and trade chat you dont even notice the silly people that happen to play the same game.  So yep anyone looking for a fun well polished game to play with their friends or family, even just to hold you over for the next big one. Take the time to download the trial, and give it a whirl.

Anyone else get the feeling that sometimes they are reprimanded more for the private beliefs and feelings of the moderators rather then the forums rules or off topic type discussion?

I honestly wouldnt trade piss in a pot for the instanced/spliced up game Funcom released.  Comming from UO, DAoC, and WoW i want a game that is open, everyone involved at once....and i dont give a witches cold teet if the graphics are top notch! Make a game, make it right, and make it feel like an actual world, not some cut up pasted back together mess.  Instances ruin immersion simple as and a very easy formula to remember.  Sorry funcom the game looks pretty to be sure, but i dont find that i actually get into the game.  I enjoy books because they create a seamless complete world....i dont wanna get halfway through a chapter to find i have to go buy the next installment releasing in 2010!

I have actually run the mill of every single online game that has been released since i quit DAoC. Problem is that the changes made recently have really kept me away from the game. Maybe when that new server comes online, maybe WAR...but currently i have planted my butt in WoW simply because my bro plays WoW and we can chill and enjoy the game at our own pace.

Meh, if we could just get one person w/o broken english to make a thread about this game i would feel better.  As is, it feels like gold farmers are setting the game up to be a cash crop.

hehehe sad as it may be i dont see a whole lot this "next generation" will offer above WoW but maybe better graphics (which i dont really care for or need).  I think ill hang with my bro and the guild till WotLK comes out.  Oh hehe ya....i bought the game, played to 20 got out of tortage and saw how effing stupid the rest of the game is....this game woulda been better served as a single player RPG with multiplayer co-op as an option.

Ok while it is possible that sooo many people have the wrong idea about the game (eh hmmm mass suicides anyone?!).  I myself (did play the game btw and yes more than a handful of days i even uninstalled and put back on to make myself try it further) found that they are exactly right.  This game to be honest would have been better served if they had stuck tot he Tortage night formula and release a single player RPG with like a multiplayer co-op thing if they really wanted that in there.  Its bitterly clear (which i enjoyed the 1-20 leveling) that the game after 20 is only partly completed.  Its not even opinion its fact.  The voiceovers disapear, the number of quality quests disapear, enviornements are buggy buggy buggy (which i forgive because you cant know everyting until thousands of peopel are trudging along in it and they are fixing the bugs at a good rate.  And another thing 3 days to get a ticket answered!! THREE.  Then the sticky bit about classes needing alot of work and the combo system being just plain annoying.

Vista isnt so far off now, and will be far better than XP.  Never mind the DX10 its just more user friendly, smoother feeling, and well...cool.  Hate to use the Mac vs. PC stuff but erm...xp feels more like the nerd and Vista the everyday joe cool.  On a more technical note, i havent had a single issue with vista,  i enjoy DX10, and the interface is just much more enjoyable. Besides it microsoft...other companies will fall in line, and they will higher newer coders etc that know the latest and adapt.

I think AoC did exactly what Funcom wanted the game to do.  So i would have to say the game isnt a failure, nor do i see the servers being shut down for several years.  I guess im saying is the poll even necessary?

To be honest its not so much that can they do it, but can they stay consistent with it.  I mean i even have to admit the VanCleef quest line in wow has that same good feeling that you are doing something big and great and it all culminates into this great final battle; then its like they just stopped caring about quest content.  I would rather the game have one amazing big quest line that awards more xp  (or even like you get mini quest goals along the way the keep the xp comming in but fit into the overal mission).  But ya it always seem (AoC) that they do that at the beginning.  I mean i cant lie the nighttime AoC quest was the only part i enjoyed about the game, I loved the feeling that i was subverting a tyrant, manipulating a powerful sorceress and then the final showdown between me and the evil lord.  I would love to see the opposing side of things too where you choose to go turncoat on the resistance etc..   It would be tough but i think bioware has the story writing history to make a game where you feel like you effect things, that you feel you accomplish something important, and make a game where you actually care about the character (Why cant an npc you have helped saved and moved through the game world with die? that kind of stuff happens you know). Erm everyone knows the uncomfortable moment in FF7 when Aerith died and u realised you had tears running down ure face and you just felt sick and wanted nothing more at that moment to put ure big ass buster sword down the middle of sephiroths pretty lil face! Games are just shallow and they dont ever make enough of a story to pull a player in (which is what most MMO's seem to be built towards).

Unless your like EVE or UO where the general idea is a whole differnet world for you to make character in etc...they go for the story type setup and fail.  But one wall of text later i think if anyone has the talent and feel for an epic story line Bioware is the company...i just hope they dont pull their punches and water it down for the current standard in MMO's.

Its good you found one you like, i tried AoC and there were things i enjoyed and things i didnt.  Really hoping a sandbox skill build game comes around though.  Do you enjoy the combat setup in AoC or are you more of the caster type player?  I quite like the more active fighting that games like AoC and DDO utilize as opposed to the static WoW, SoH, etc... and i was honestly hoping that Funcom would have developed something neat and new for spellcaster combat rather than just hotkey clicking.  Sidetracked....whats your favorite class and favorite bit of the game?
