Looks like the EQ guys didnt learn their lessons from that guild-centered game. No thanks

It's not a solo type game.   Go play WOW if you like that.   There will be solo content but the good stuff(dungeons) are for groups.   I don't see a problem with this.   Stop being and anti-social $uck!   You will feel better about yourself.

But Brad knows also that if Vanguard is another disappointment (ala EQ2), people will turn quickly against Vanguard, as it happened with EQ2.In the official forums we make sure to bring this issue up from time to time, so he will never forget about it ;)The positive thing is that they are listening so far.

His knowing, even his extensive experience, do not necessarily equate to providing a compelling gaming experience. Many of Brad's ideas about EverQuest are some of the most reviled aspects of that game...he fought a war of ideology against his playerbase for years, a war he eventually lost.

I'm not bashing him, really...I would love to see what he has to offer. But I have been around this block far too many times now to have any faith in the grandstanding of a marketing strategy. Screenshots, developer blogs, proposed feature lists, FAQ abstraction, and eclecting musings from critical persons in the projects do not create the sum of a game that reaches the marketplace on release day. They represent nothing more than wishful thinking backed up by a framework of factual evidence.

Nearly every game on the market today has been released with a pared down featureset that was woefully revealed during its development. Consider Horizons as an extreme example of the devastating effect that such hype can cause a game. I have learned to ignore it all, and I recommend the same to anyone. It's not real until it exists and can be fully abused by the playerbase...until then, it is nothing more than hype, regardless of the reputation of the developers who are suggesting otherwise.

That’s a battle he was destined to lose as a exec producer in a very large corporate structure.   The higher ups at SOE eventually compromised his game play ideals.   The suits at soe are only driven by cash not the long term health of a game.  Listening too much to your playerbase and not the long term health of a game has proved to be the wrong way to go.   Brad is in a much different position now.   He is the boss(CEO).   Microsoft just puts up the cash for a percentage.   This is the reason he left.   You say he lost?   Looks like he won.

If you want and ultra casual game like EQ2 and WOW please go play it.   I’m glad it makes you happy.   But most core gamers want something more.   If you want to solo also play vanguard.  There will be solo content, group content, and raid content.   If you are bad ass enough solo the group content.  It can be done just not as easily as the solo stuff.  If you like original EQ(kunark, Velious) vanguard will appeal to you.   End of story.   If not go play some of the MANY other games out there.   Peace.

Anyway it is still early days, the game is still in alpha.

I doubt it will be bigger than Dark and Light, I highly doubt it... but they haven't said anything official yet about the actual size, jsut that it would be the biggest. Maybe they dont know about DnL ::::05::

Yeah, DnL seems huge.  I don't think they will beat that.

See you in beta latter this year then.

I think the character models and environments look a ton better than EQ2.    No more crappy zones.   You can see for miles.   Ships that truly work.   You can even pilot them and fight from them.  Tons of mounts in the game and player housing.   And Gasp, player houseing that's not just some lame instanced $hit(in fact no instancing in Vanguard at all).    Powerful  guilds can even create their own towns and make platinum on shop sales.

Think of Vanguard as EQ2 done right.   EQ2 with some substance.   EQ2 with some challenge.   EQ2 with a soul.   EQ2 without chinese sweat shop gear/platinum farmers.   EQ2 without that shitty Sony online Ent company screwing everything up.

Vanguard Saga of Heroes is also taking a stand again the secondary market.

Community manager interview on secondary market.

I hope to see more companies come out against this type  of policy.   In the end the gamer is going to lose with developers supporting the secondary market.

I wouldn’t expect a lot of the 3rd gen mmog ideas to be releases till they hit beta.   But do not expect them to promote crazy ideas that have no real chance of making it into game.   So what are kind of gameplay/races/classes are you looking for?

www.okratas.com has a few screen shots.   But I believe Vanguard will cater to both casual and hardcore gamers.

Er, maybe     If EQ2 is anything like SWG I think it will kill itself.
