I never played Jedi in SWG and it wont be any different for me in Tor , no jedi for me .

I still get my RP in my saturday D&D 3.5 sessions , and it's still fun after all these years . I dont believe mmo's ever had real rp going on i saw some in the cantina's in SWg and some in Anarchyonline a few back but it never lasted.

I think RP died  when people stopped playing MUD's to be honest .

One more reason i enjoy old school rpg's more than the new stuff that came out these days .

First off, I agree with the comment above about changing the name of this thread to "List the MMO you hate". The only way for this to work is to put prejudice aside.

My opinion is that AoC will be closed with in a year, this is unfortunate since it is a pretty good MMO. With the closing of AoC and the current economy Funcom may have to close there doors thus ending AO. I feel that unless the economy improves any big name high cost MMO closing could spell doom for a company.

Next is WAR. Warhammer online simple cannot stay open in its current state. Once it closes I fell EA will close Mythic along with DAoC and maybe even UO.

Various minor MMOs will probably be closing soon, Fallen earth is the first to come to mind.

Now remember this is realyy just speculation. Had this thread run 6 or more months ago I am sure DDO would have been on it.

Also any SOE game will not be closing with in the next year, SOE has a habit of keeping games around longer then it should. Look how long it took to close Matrix online. But maybe the economy will cull the herd, not just for SOE but for the market in general.

Only time will really tell.

This might actually happen am afraid , we all know how EA treats games.

Lords of the rings might be interesting for you , we have plenty of aussie players on brandywine server and the game balances solo and group quests in every zone and a light touch of pvp called monster play in LOTRO ... there a free trial so try it out .

If you want to get your palms sweaty, go to sector 1 near mobilehome park and north. You'll be hunted by players and nasty mobs. When you see the burned tree trunks your there, course most dont get the far its a nasty spot.

Hope to see you there soon...through my sniper scope. :)

That's right, I said it. EQ hurt the genre in a large way. If EQ didn't exist, those players would have played UO, and instead of the huge array of grindy ass level based pieces of garbage we have today, we would instead have virtual worlds. Worlds in which the players decide what to do with their time in game, as well as their characters. A world where death matters, and where items don't come from hours raiding shitty AI bosses in dungeons, but rather the hands and design of the players.

EQ is the reason we have shit like WoW, LOTR, and the newest disgust, Aion. You follow the A to B painted pathway the game gives you, you kill repetitive mobs over, and over, and over. Then the fun begins right? Yeah, you get to grind for gear! Then what you ask? Well then the dev releases an expansion, and you get MORE gear! Isn't that a great game formula?

Honest to god, go back in time and delete EQ. We sure sure as hell have less shitty copies of a shitty game for 10 god damn years. On the positive side, however, we would have real massively multiplayer worlds, not single player RPGs with a few other people playing the same single player RPG. This forum is filled with dismay for the genre. You know what? Kick out every EQ clone and you are left with some damn good games. Interesting, isnt it?

I played eq1 from 1999 to  2005 , it's post like this that make lol and see that this person never played eq1 in it's original state .

It seems that over the last few months online there has been tons of rage over TOR, and the way the game is being designed; I.E. Story based not sandbox. My question to the community is why? Why are you dissapointed in the way the game is turning out.

If you're a Star Wars Fan (the target audience) you'll be getting your favorite IP turned into an MMO; And not just any MMO one designed around story and intrigue with an engine that looks amazing and with characters that are fully voiced.

If your a fan or RPGs, your getting a game designed by the single greatest company in the buisness (bioware) and are going to get the expirence of a life time.

The only crowd that leaves are the WoW-esque MMO fans, who tend to like grind based gear gathering and repetitive instances (a niche already filled by WOW). And the SWG Vets (who are not, star wars fans in the strictest sense) who prefer well, SWG a games that already exists.

So the question I post to all of the future SW:TOR community is "what could they do differently to please you?"

They're just being childish and freaking out because it isn't a carbon copy of WoW or an SWG pre NGE.

Personally, I'm so sick of carbon copies and the last thing we need is another SWG. I want something fresh and different for a change.

Yeah i agree we need New and fresh anyways most peoples want to go solo in mmo's now .

To be honest you had to be there in 1999 to really understand , wasnt only the gameplay and dungeons to me it was that everquest was a new kind of gaming called mmorpg's with online folks in it and that was new .

The bonds peoples created in everquests because it was like the only 3D mmo at the time , besides AC also .

the commuity was top notch were grouping not soloing was the main essence of the game guilds helped each others and players were happy to buff new players at freeport gates little things like that .

yes it's mostly nostalgic i have to agree but then again i remember wearing my yellow canary robe as a erudin enchanter not knowing what happening and who are alll these players that my friend is something i wont forget .

today mmorpg's players are totally a new generation and so has the way mmo's are played and made more casual more solo and alot of loot and being on top of your game .

Do i miss it , kinda would i go back never , most players now simply wont put the time and effort to do what we did in everquest.

Nowadays there simply too many choices in mmo's to stay in a game 5 years like i did .and choices is not a bad thing after all .

Thanks for the quick reply. Is LOTR populated? Is it all grinding though levels or does it go kinda quick?

Lotro is quest based just like Wow , so yes leveling is pretty quick but if your new it will take you more time than players that have been through the game already .

Yes EQ2 is a good choice aswell i played it 4 years it's alot more solo friendly than people might think just some classes do it better or faster .

I stuck with Lotro because the community as a whole seem a whole alot better than most games out there .

Try lords of the rings online pretty cheap to buy 10$ plus you get your standard 30days free , alot of solo content and even at level 60 there stuff to do deeds , books , raids and monster play if you like pvp abit .

Last year I recall a Russia MMORPG, "Well Online," nearing release, and it appeared to have great potential.

I just tried to load up its old bookmarked website, but it's down.  Anyone have any info on just what happened to WELL Online?

Thanks.

probably died , it did look promising but then again alot of new mmorpg's do before they actually go retail .

try goggle : what happened to well ; always works for me for every odd question i have .

Peace

And a bad one that is. I won't make same mistakes I made with AoC and WAR Cryptic, I hope they won't screw STO that bad.

Anyway this message is for WoW players who got fed up with WoW and looking for another game. All I'm saying is just play the open beta level up your character till 20 and then decide. In my opinion this is game just another bad WoW clone which lacks features that made WoW stand up among dozens of other themepark MMOs.

What isnt a Wow clone for you kids these days , really poor poor poor thread oh and wow had features ? that a new one i though it was this very generic mmorpg's that blizzard turned it into this easy little kid game .

Solid game if you like super heroes games , i think it bring the super hero to a new level .

My only negative comment and it's a big one , when you level up there not much to your character customisation beside adding new powers .

But overall it's a fun game i really liked the enviroments and i actuallly felt like i was  in a comic book .

have fun

Best fishing experience in any mmo is final fantasy XI , different poles and even moon phases affect your fishing but be careful where you fish you can even fish monsters out of the water .

Check out the fishing guides on alakasam about fishing it will give you a better overall view of what am saying .

found a great site

Heya! Lotro is a good game :) to truly enjoy it, here some advice.

- Get into a big  Guild / Kinship with mature people

- go to the next zone if youre fat up with the one youre questing in

- get a Dx10 card ^^

- roll your toon on the Rp server

- Rp at the pony if you are burned out by questing

- oin groups  and if no groups are starting, start one yourself, if you cant find groups for your quests

move on or go to the pony..explore or craft XD

that with the game lotro should provide ya some months of fun at least if you like the setting.

regards

The Pony? I have a DX10 Card luckily :) what server is RP? How do you look for kinships?

Rofl , you dont need Dx10 too enjoy this game !

you dont need a big kinship either trust me on this .

yes people play music at the prancing pony and rp abit if your into that .

and most important YOU dont to group to get to max level in this game , and no you will never ever run out of quests before they start turning green . which means it's time to move to another zone .

not true that most quests are for groups and either way there a LFF channel which is for finding groups .

I play everyday almost and i never have a problem finding a group for my quests , actually just finished book2 today did the whole thing with a fellowship today .

-- Every class can solo in lotro with ease even healers , only difference is the speed they do it .

-- Landroval is the unofficial RP server but brandywine is the biggest server in terms of population.

-- as for moria it's 10$ for the expansion so you still have to pay a monthly fee , unless your account is new well you 'ill 1 free month to start .
