I think I'm going to have to stop you there.  We don't agree on this point, because I can't look at an item store selling vanity items and not think they are deliberately encouraging people to *feel* a parallel between renting an in-game with ownership of a physical item.  And I refuse to fault people for thinking this, even if we both know that it's not in their best interests.

You can ignore the facts if you like. That's your prerogative and choice. I choose not to. As much as you may like to you also can't stop me from approaching this rationally.

Neither do the game services. The license agreement state you neither own nor possess anything other than a subscription. If you choose to ignore that agreement then that is your problem. Just like ignoring mowing the lawn or cleaning the toilet.

Although this is of course true, I think it's a little unfair to ignore or belittle the disconnect between what players intellectually know and what the game encourages them to emotionally feel.

Would this point not also be valid about how someone feels after paying for the service of having the lawn mown or their toilets cleaned? They've received nothing too.

I don't blame Joe behind desk number 27, I blame the company. I used the email adres given by the mail that got me so angry and forgive me if I am wrong, but the customer service reps are the wall around those in control. A wall made to catch and react to the complaints. If you can't go to customer service with your complaints then there is no customer service worth mentioning.

I'm not saying you're wrong. Fortunately the only thing I bought from them was basically a license key to an MMO. I can get that software anytime elsewhere.

This scenario of Direct 2 Drive being bought by someone else is exactly why I didn't do other business with them. I prefer having a disc sitting on my shelf for the next ten years instead of relying on the availability of some third party floating in the Cloud.

Customer Service reps can only do what they are told they can do by the management. Direct you anger towards the decision makers like Sean Spector and the stockholders (if any) and not the individuals who are your first contact with the company. You should be trying to get those people on your side so they can represent you to the rule makers.

Yes, it it is backwards compatible and there will not be any noticeable performance problems. 2.1 is mostly a step towards the recently released PCIe 3.0 specifications. There also appear to be some 'old' motherboards with PCIe 2.0 that aren't compatible with 2.1. Most of those can probably become compatible with a firmware update.

Games are up and running as are websites and forums. Many people can't get to them though. I"m in EQ 2 there is almost noone around and the ground is absolutely littered with crafting material spawns. SOE says they are working on it

Game is up, forums are up. Some people are having problems. SOE is working on discovering what's going on. This appears to be with most SOE games. I can access all forums and the only SOE game I have on my system, EQ 2 is up and running. Others are saying they can't log in.

The official SOE response given above is to try later, Sometime. Soon.
