Every damn game that comes out..."WoW Killer!  AMIRITE?"  Seriously, give it a rest guys.

I agree with you... except when it comes to one game.  Hello Kitty Online... I mean come on!  WoW killer!  AMIRITE?

Absolutely agree, this was by far the hardest class for me to kill.

And there's your problem.

If you were trying to kill a healer without the rest of your team, good luck.  All of the healing classes can hold their own 1 vs 1.  The game isn't about duels, it is about team warfare.

Focus fire on a RP and they will be dead within seconds.  They are not overpowered, people just need to lear how to play the game correctly.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, chances are it's a duck. The reason I used the car analogy was to portray that cars generaly improve and have more features (content) as they are released. Sure you could add a new paint job to an old car, but sooner or later you'll want the new car with all features of your old one but more.

You can't make a Porche with $20,000, so you make an Eclipse instead. Eclipse is still a fun car and can get you from point A to point B, but it just doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Porche does.

Apparently you missed this the first time around.  Your car analogy only works if you are comparing a Blizzard game to another Blizzard game.  And then, only barely.

Also many people would consider certain classic cars better then their new models... so your analogy has even less validity.

I've played BW quite a bit in beta.  They are my favorite class.  Nothing like setting everything in sight on fire.  They are definitely the glass canons of the Empire.  Lots of destruction, but they also die easily.

If you are looking for a nuker type character, BW is for you.

Archmage is primarily a healer.  You can't really compare BW with AM, they are entirely different playstyles.

Beta vets I've spoken with said that it wasn't this bad previously, and that Mythic has obviously broken something. Hopefully this problem will be quickly identified and corrected.

No, it's been bad since the beginning.  In-fact, worse in the beginning.  Up until a month ago you could not fight monsters inside of dungeons or buildings because they would go into the wall and continue to hit you.

Pathing in the game is horrible.  The AI problems you described seem to be exactly what they were in closed beta.

Actually while this is sometimes true, it is usually not.  Most people who advocate for things like full item loot on corpse merely want to inflict as much pain as possible on another human being.

Well that's your opinion and you are definitely entitled to it.  I'm not sure how we got on the subject of full looting... but... ok.   While I can't say that most people just want to cause pain, or most people just want a game with full looting, I do know that all of my former guild members in UO would love to see another game with full-looting & a harsh death penalty (or full looting being that harsh death penalty).  We all want this because it was exciting, not because we want to cause other people pain, but because it was exhilarating when some one was attempting to cause US that pain you speak of.  Also when the entire game is based around this mechanic, it is not nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

As an aside.  I would never personally associate getting killed or losing items in a game with pain.  Maybe that's why I want such a system?

In order to have a game that is designed around stuff like full item loot you need entire backing economy like Eve or whatever.  Yet most of these people simply advocate for full loot and tell you that you are a carebear when you tell them that the item model could never support such a thing.

I'm not sure what you mean by an entire backing economy.  This is true in EvE because everything is so expensive.  But the equipment doesn't have to be expensive.  It's all how the game is designed.  Full-looting (and probably perma-death) can be fun if done correctly.

I agree that the type of loot systems used in today's MMO games could not support full-looting.  There are some ignorant people out there, I'll give you that.  Someone calling you a carebear (which is a stupid term anyway, and has been distorted from it's original meaning) because you don't want full-looting in a loot focused game is either just trying to upset you, or is an idiot.

And if that is what they really wanted then they would say they want a disposable/attrition type game but they don't because they have no idea what any of that even means.  They just want to bring the pain and everything else be damned.

I agree with you again about the small minority of people that post on game forums wanting to be able to loot players entirely, just because, but there is a vast majority of players that would support this type of gameplay if it was designed into an MMO that have no need to post on game forums that were not built with these systems in mind.

The fact is his statement is not a total failure in fact its very true because many of these people claim that what they want is the edge of losing things.  They are lying.  Because they could have that whenever they want

Look at the type of person you are talking about.  You are referring to someone that would come on a game's forum that KNOWS it will not have perma-death or full-looting and starts to call everyone names because they don't want these systems in a game that was not designed for them.  These people are trolls, nothing more.  On the flip side, Locklain was doing exactly the same thing.  He was trying to make it sound like deleting your character on a game not designed for perma-death is the answer, which it is not.

What they want is the edge of being able to inflict that pain on others.

Again, you are entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is that it is just a small minority of players that actually want this.

Now it is true that item loss in a game designed for does add another dimension.  Namely in Eve Online it would be impossible to wage a war of attribtion without item loss and looting.  Since Eve does work that way you can actually prosecute a successful geurilla action against another corporation.  Game without this model cannot do such a thing no matter how much the players want it.

Exactly my point.  A game not designed for perma-death or full-looting can not support a player that is only looking for these game mechanics.  Deleting your character does not solve the fact that the game was not designed to work that way.

But that is something else.  You want to shove everything to together and have it both ways.  Well it doesn't work that way sorry.

I'm not sure if this was referring to my post or not.  If it was, I do not follow.

Uninstall the Fileplanet Download Manager then go back to the download link.  When you click on it you should get a box that says Unable to Install Download Manager.  And below that a direct link to download the file.

Chicken rule applies only when you are flagged for RvR.  IE:  If you are tier 2 and go to a tier 1 RvR area you are automatically turned into a chicken.  If you go back to a tier 1 PvE area of the opposing realm, as long as you don't attack anyone you will not be turned into a chicken.

Open RVR

RvR flagging is everywhere outside of the safe starting areas.  Chicken rule is automatic when you go into a previous tier.

RolePlaying

RP enforced server.  Might be core or open, or both.

And have you played a white lion?  How do they fare in RvR?

In beta Destruction was more popular than Order.  But this was also true in WoW beta.  Horde was favored over Alliance, but in retail, Alliance had more players on almost every server.  I'm guessing the same will hold true with WAR.

White Lions fare about the same as every other melee DPS class in the game.  If you can get close enough, you can do some damage.  The trouble is getting close enough.  The nice thing about the WL is that you can send in your lion to harass a healer.  At level 40 they take some time to take down, and recast timer is not that long.

The bad part is your lion is just a tool... I never really felt like it was my partner, or part of my character like it should be.

Ya, except the game doesn't look or feel like WoW.  The game looks like Warhammer (Not their fault if Blizzard ripped off Warhammer's art) and it feels like DAoC.

WAR plays nothing like WoW.  But it plays a lot like DAoC.

Honestly, Swordmasters only want to be using a 2-hander in PvE if you have another tank in your group acting as MT with a sword + shield.

There really is no contest between sword and board and 2-hander at end game.  S+B wins hands down.  Lets see... 30%+ blocking every type of attack, including magic.  Or 5% more damage.  Hmmm...

Altairzq:  All tanks are desired and can do their jobs equally well, on both sides.

This is a sad... very sad fact. I'm in the same boat as you.  I had high hopes for STO.  That would have been the perfect IP to make a virtual world... not just another copy of a copy level based game.  But, unfortunately Cryptic is making a game, not a world.

There's really nothing on the horizion that looks promising, and that is a little depressing.

*sigh*  Hasn't this been beaten to death already?  WAR did not clone WoW.  It just uses the standard MMO formula set in place by EQ a decade ago.  All level based MMO games are the same at heart.  The only original one was EQ.

Wow I think that 2 pages of this thread could have been saved if this was posted a little sooner.

Rabenwolf's defintion of a casual gamer is different than ... well.. everyone else.

Casual gamer - Rabenwolf:  A mental state of someone who feels like they should get handed everything on a silver platter.  They want everything a game has to offer, but they don't want to play to get it.  This could be someone who plays 1 hour a day, or someone who plays 12 hours a day.  It's a mental state, not a playstyle.

Casual gamer - everyone else:  A playstyle.  This type of player spends more time doing other things in their life than playing a game.  They still might play a lot, but they do other things more.

There... hopefully this clears up any confusion.

Not let you upgrade your video card?  Maybe in older, or budge line models.  But most mid-high end name brand PCs have a PCIe slot to install an aftermarket video card.  Once you install a video card in that slot it becomes the primary.

If you can't disable the on-board VGA port in the BIOS you can always disable it in Device Manager, but you don't have to, it really makes no difference in any computer with a PCIe card slot.

With an AGP motherboard it would be a good idea to disable the on-board video after installing the card, but it isn't always necessary with this older technology either.

I am going to bet that WAR will have some type of intro for each class type when it is released.   A lot of games do it this way, any unnecessary "fluff" content is saved for retail.

Oh and I agree, mob pathing is pretty bad in the game.  A lot of times they will just stand there and let you kill them, other times they will run half way to you, then stop... or stop, then teleport to you, or run toward you in a really round about way.
