So why did they made Weaponsmith and Armorsmith ?
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/07/12 5:01:22 PM
That was not necessarily true. As a weaponsmith from realease to 09 I've made a total of 80 platinum just from selling weapons ALONE. You just had to know what kind of weapons that would sell. There is only 1 ultimate weapon in cashing in on. It was the weapons that used the STRIKING enhancement. That was the only type you'd craft and sell because those striking types of weapon were far superior than most questable weapons. Now days all crafting professions are basically useless because there's not enough people in the game to make a living off them. Before I left the game I've given pretty much all my money to old friends and guildies that were still playing. Funny thing is, just yesterday I was looking to buy something but couldn't find it in the exchange broker and had to pay a hefty sum of money to get someone to craft it. But anything to help guildies I suppose. Back to being broke and cant make much money anymore from crafting. Go figure. |

You know I finally couldn't help myself but to subscribe to Vanguard again. Upon getting in the game, I said hello to everyone and told them I just started out again. The there was a message from a GM - Congratulations "characeter name" You're the 1000th player returning! About 2 mins later an in game GM popped up and gave me some nice stuff. It does seem like people are coming back after all. Currently in the game we're at 1001 players that returned according to the in game GM. This is probably the best time to get back into the game because they are celebrating the 5th anny for this game and there are prizes and presents to be had! The event ends on the 6th of February. So hurry up and come enjoy the game! |

Soloing in Vanguard! New to game!
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/03/12 5:38:23 PM
If you're looking into the fastest way to solo, the ranger will always be on top. They will out kill all other classes at a much faster pace when kiting. Most classes can handle at most 4-6 mobs at a time, the only exception would be the dreadknight. But even the dreadknight cannot take on a whole lot of 3-4 dot mobs like the ranger. At level 48 my dreadknight can take on 10-15 3 dot mobs. The 4 dotters I could handle about 4-6 due to the fact that it just takes too long to kill them with the DK's low dps. The dreadknight's surviveability is based upon how many mobs you can lifesteal so the more you have the more HP you heal yourself. Its just harder with the 4 dotters because they hit harder. Now for the ranger anything is fair game, given you're outdoors or at least in a place where you have room to kite. My ranger can handle 20+ mobs 2-4 dotters easily and they all die fairly quick because of the split arrow ability. Side strafe in a big circular motion and kite away. Every split arrow shot you do will always gaurantee you a critical hit which then opens up your hard hitting combos. The only downside to doing this is if you pull magic user mobs, your priority is to kill them first otherwise you'd get nuked to death. |

Yup, Vanguard for me as well. I have been pondering if I wanna get back in it. |

How to make world pvp work again?

Originally posted by laokoko Of course people wouldn't want to get ganked or griefed, but you have to understand what I was saying. You rarely come across people like that back in those day and age. You just had OUT SMART people like that, just stay away from places that are known PK hot spots. UO was a huge world ( I was 13 yrs old at the time I was playing apparently it was big from my perspective) find escape routes, build up your hide skill, use invisibility scrolls, etc etc. The main point that was good with UO was the fact that even if you died, you didn't have alot to lose. Sure you get ganked and you get setback a few mins, just run around look for a wandering healer priest. Avoid the spot where you got ganked move on. When they made the Trammel faucet to cater for PvE players it defeated the whole purpose of a community, its like making another instance, it seperates people. Which is why you have MMO's that are out now. People only moved into Trammel because thats where the people were. You NEED interaction with players. Multifaction based PvP will never work WELL (DAOC is an exception). Just take a look at most faction pvp mmos out there right now. There will always be one side having more population than the other no matter how many faction there is. And now its basically a zerg / gank fest contest. Sure some servers might be balanced out, but when you have the "griefed" players on a different server being over run by one faction and when they switched to the more balanced population servers, it will tip in favor of a different faction. |

How to make world pvp work again?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/03/12 12:04:56 AM
Originally posted by TheCrow2k #4 Will never ever work. So say you created a PK character and go on a killing spree. People add in the bounty to take you down, sure ok, whatever. Now you get some of your friends to go check on the bounty for the price of your "head." Ok the bounty for your death is at 1 million gold. Then you get your friend(s) to kill you turn you in and collect the money. All profit for a little cost. Split the money and go on about your buisness. UO had a similar system like this and it was abused upon so bad that they took it out. |

Not a bad game! Now, here's some questions...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/02/12 11:53:45 PM
When you're crafting at lower levels its almost impossible to get grade A due to the fact that your skill points are too low. The way to know how you have the best chance of getting a higher grade is to look at the difficulty of the item / work order you are doing. At lower level for crafting if memory serves me right, you have a 3 step process. So click on each step then you have sub choices. Mouse over each choice and it'll give you a little bit of information on how the action works. From level 1 to 10 (maybe 1 to 20? Been so long since I played) you get 2000 action points to work with. So take weaponsmithing for example. The first step will ask you what kind of ingot you'd want to use, it gives you a list of varieties of ingots you can choose from and mouse over the icons and it will give you a discription of the name and stat it adds. Step 2, you need to look at the PROGRESS and GRADE, so now you have a few icons that either adds to your progress or to the grade level or both ( NEVER use the icon that adds both until higher levels, its a waste of action points) . The most important thing to do is click on the icon that increases the progress, get it to roughly 85%-95% where ever you feel most comfortable with. Then whatever ACTION POINTS you have leftover you would choose the icon that adds to the grade level. You need to save AT LEAST 100 action points for step 3 to make sure the grade quality doesnt fall below what you want. It takes a lot of practice, but once you get used to it crafting will be a breeze. Once you've reach level 20+ or so you should be able to tackle down the yellow workorders fairly easy. Then I think at roughly around level 40 the red workorders should be a breeze. If it were only that easy right? You still have to deal with complications during the crafting process and sometimes if you dont get rid of the complications it will negatively impact your progress or the quality of your end product. If you're just crafting regular items for personal use or to sell. To know if you have a high chance of crafting Grade A, you can just go by your crafting level compared to the level of the recipe you're crafting. So if you're only 1 level above the recipe level it will be almost impossible to get grade A (until higher levels). To be on the safe side and not waste materials I'd recommend being at least 3 levels higher than the recipe level to try and make Grade A. Another important thing to know is, when crafting something say for example a sword. All the sub pieces like the hilt and pommel. If you can get those to Grade A, your quality will start at a higher %. So Grade A pommel and hilt will give you 18% quality when putting all those things together. Hope this helps a little. Gray - the easiest, little to no complications Light Blue - easy, some complications here and there Blue - average, complications come more often Yellow - tough, lots of complications Red - extremely tough, complications almost all the time |

I agree with Mardy. The only way for Vanguard to get attention is through F2P. The influx of players joining would be a welcomed sight. I'm sure that when people have tried out all the other F2P games out there and then come into the world of Vanguard they will notice just how much better and exciting this game can be. It needs some serious attention and going F2P will be the only logical thing to do. I am seriously thinking that if all other SoE MMO's dont go according to plan via F2P. They will depend on Vanguard being the last resort of getting more players to come back. Well besides EQ next, but you know its going to be a while before that game will even come out. But still... |

How to make world pvp work again?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/02/12 10:52:05 PM
Nah, you guys got it all wrong. For open PvP to work well, think back of UO's older pvp system. Get rid of all those super stat'ed out gear and keep it straight crafted, then you'd really have nothing to lose because all the stuff you have can be bought / crafted. Sure UO had some nice stat boosting gear. BUT point being even though someone had those types of gear, you'd still have a good chance of beating them with crafted gear. Get rid of all those stupid PvP achievements and rank system crap, then you wouldn't have so much of those type of people who grief / camp / kill on sight mind set. Its supposed to be fun and competitive for people WITH SKILLS instead of people who get to max level / skill points ASAP just so they can collect their precious "end game" PvP gear. UO's selling point was NOT pvping. It was the freedom of choice to do just about anything you want, be whoever you want. A game that focuses heavily just on PvP will never get far. There's more to a game than just to PvP. BTW UO's 2 faction Order and Chaos worked just fine. You just didn't have to deal with douchebags back in the day as you do now. There was more respect among players in the old generation of gamers than now. Just because you are in a different faction from someone else does not necessarily mean that you had to go at it all the time when you see each other. |

I'd definitely play again IF they allow the vets to keep their already made characters and classes. I would not want to come back and start a new character like how it was with EQ2 |

The only expensive piece of hardware you'll encounter would be the graphics card and CPU. Intel I7 extreme CPU's can run you about $600-$900 already. But it really isnt neccessary to get top of the line hardware. |

huh? you've basically kinda described Vanguard. Fix up Vanguard and you'll have a great game. |

Would SWTOR be fun for a non-quester/open-world type player?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/24/12 12:21:44 AM
I'm level 49 and half way to get to 50. I can't even force myself to run anymore quests or even queue up for the instance PvP. Cuz I know I'd just have to queue up for more PvP to collect the armor sets etc. etc. |

Is It wierd that I am asian but I prefer Western mmo compared to Asian mmo ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/23/12 11:16:31 PM
I'm asian, I like western storylines but asian art design MMO's. Now IF only someone would combine the 2. Edit: Not those cheap F2P asian mmos either but the ones like TERA AION Lineage2 etc etc. |

Graphics performance in SWTOR is atrocious for many
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/23/12 10:47:23 PM
Everytime I start laggin up and get low fps, what works for me is hitting the windows key kinda like tabbing out, and click on the game again so you'll get the loading screen to refresh the game. It works almost all the time, but I do get some CTD because it takes too long to refresh. |
