Amber was ok, but the concept of roleplaying without dice threw a lot of people, so the game didn't do that well. He was mostly known as a writer. Man, 57 years old... that's way to young. With WAR however it just ends up looking like a cartoony version of EQ2 where theres this big open space and they've stuck some pregenerated crap to fill up the space and theres hardly any detail to the world. It's not that it even looks darks and gritty like the CG trailer which is how I wish'd it looked but it's just drab and barren and miserable, kinda world it looks like I wont have fun playing in because it just is soooo boring.

You are going to love the game, trust me. It plays well, looks great, and has a rich history behind it. As others have said, don't judge the game by a few screen shots and videos. I mean, I hate to do this but... Vanguard had incredible screens and videos, and look at it now lol. Moral of the story? Never judge a game by it's screen shots.

I'm 34 years old and I've been gaming for over 20 years. This includes table-top, pen&paper RPGs, console games, and yes, MMOs. So for the first time in my life, I sent off my resume to a gaming company (to remain anonymous) and listed my gaming experience. To me this is a huge deal; I would have never thought that being a huge game nerd could potentially pay off one day.

The gaming genre (video games) grosses more revenue every year than movies. We are talking billions upon billions of dollars. I forsee the industry getting bigger by leaps and bounds. For all of you who post about X game sucking, or Y company is terrible, do something about it! Now is your time to put up or shut up. Seriously, less posting and more gaming. Dismissed.

I've been playing WoW for about three years now. This time includes four 70s (hunteer, druid, shammy, and paladin) and one 40 (rogue). Most of the time WoW has been a great expierence; I've seen the best and worst of people who play MMOs. But now it's time to move, not just to another game, but maybe out of the genre completely.

MMOs are great great fun when you have a game that is worth playing. But so many games that come out are just pure and utter crap. I have about a half dozen titles that were released in the last 12 months sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Why? Because they were absoultey horrible. Perhaps I've been spoiled; WoW was my first MMO, but definitely wasn't the only one.

I started playing about a year after WoW was released, so fortunately most of the bugs and glitches had been worked out. All I had to do was log on and play a polished game. I was addicted to say the least. See, I come from a table-top, pen&paperg RPG background. When I started playing we didn't have the computer power to play virtual online worlds. All of that has changed now.

I feel sorry for the younger generation of gamers who will never know the magic of table-top roleplaying. There is nothing like weaving a heroic story with a group of friends, telling tales of adventure and intrigue, and all together have a blast while doing so. Those memories of adventure and commradarie will never be replaced by MMOs; not matter how long you play, how  many epic items you have, no matter what it's all online. Online MMOs do all of the work for you, all you have to do is follow the bouncing ball.

Will I play other MMOs? Of course, just not right now. In my opinion the genre is stale at the moment. Until the next big thing comes around (and the next big thing might be an MMO per se) it will remain that way. For now though, I just can't see spending anymore time with MMOs until they break out of the WoW mold. Looks like I need to pick up my Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition and make that dwarven ranger that's been dying  to get some play time.

Flaming on forums is just a pass time for losers, seriously if you dont like it get over it, no need to go on a crusade and spam all the forums cos the game isnt perfect. I dont know what you guys expected... so its missing some features... end of the world? No! Its still fun, possibly more fun then any other MMO (it is for me), and unfortunately it is a bit buggy, and unpolished, but you cant justify giving funcom and their fans this much slag... even if you dont like it at all... god. This happens with every game, even WoW had squillions of nerds saying it was doomed, you say all this stuff and thousands of like minded forum trolls will back you up, but we'll see how this game pans out and if its a success I hope you learn your lessons and stfu. Or is it the other way round? Maybe I need to see the light and realise forums are just for the kiddies who cant afford the game or are evil fanbois of other games... sigh.

Um what? Kettle calling pot... pick up please.

You will soon know that battle cry by heart, and it will bring fear to your bones and chill your blood. WAR is coming you cannot flee...

This game is going to be good, and I will have the upmost confidence when I plop down my shillings for a copy. After being burned so many times by games that promise to deliver the "next generation of MMOs", I can honestly say that WAR will keep its promise. I look forward to the day when I cancel my WoW account and start playing WAR with the rest of the world. Yes, I'm in the beta, and the game is that good.

Waiting for: WAR, Aion, Huxley

Yeah, WoW was released wwaaaaay too early.  And it pisses me off that the eviscerate no longer ignores armor like it did in beta, and paladins skills should still work on undead horde.  This is ridiculous.  And where are hero classes?  They promised them right after release and it's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything!  I'm going back to Everquest 2, WoW sucks ballz.

Apparently there was a huge ban wave overnight. The Glider forums are inaccessible. There isn’t much news yet but so far it seems like

If you used glider in the past few months, you’re banned.
If you used OpenBot after 2.4.3, you’re banned.

For anyone interested, Age of Conan was released this very day. Good move on Blizzards part? I think they may just have lost a LOT of subscribers.

I’ll keep updating this throughout the day!

http://www.envy-gaming.com/2008/05/20/tuesday-may-20-2008-perhaps-the-biggest-blow-to-the-wow-botting-community-ever/

It appears Blizzard took out the trash...

Let me clarify this post for you...

It's very easy to tell if  a character, upon reaching the level cap of 70, has been gliding/ botting its way through levels; all you have to do is look at the characters reputation. No reputation/ faction means that they glided there way to 70.

I know this first hand; a friend of mine used Glider to raise 4 toons to 70 in about six weeks. Then he proceeded to throw those same toons into to AV the get the S1 arena epic gear. About a week and a half ago, he tried to log on and found it he was banned. Needless to say I laughed my ass off, but then again it kind of sucks; I've leveled 4 toons to 70 and workign on a 5th... It would be nice to fast-forward through some of the tedious parts of leveling.

But the joke is on me now; he's started another toon (warlock) last week. He was level 1 and is now level 42... in less than a week's time. So what if the account gets banned, Blizzard STILL gets paid. My friend went out and bought a game card with a few months time, created an account and logged on, that money goes to Blizzard. So in the end, Blizzard wins either way. The banning is just something symbolic to help the players who level w/o third party programs feel better.

Hey everyone. I will be staying at my college campus over much of the summer, doing research. So, apart from that full-time job, I will have some extra time to kill. My question is this: Which MMO should I get into?

Here's the deal at this point: I already asked myself this question about 3 weeks ago, and decided to try out LOTRO after going through the trial. I signed up for 3 months for $30 (as they currently have this good deal). I fiddled with some toons and more-or-less settled on the Captain. I'm currently level 21, and all seems to be going well...Except that I'm getting cold feet and the whole the-grass-is-greener-with-WOW thing.

I have some friends who are on campus over the summer as well, and they've gotten into WOW about 2 months ago. With that said, I of course feel slightly pressured to jump on the bandwagon and subscribe to that. But LOTRO is pulling me back a little with the subscription that I already have and the time that I put into it. To top it off, I started investigating EQ2, wondering what that's all about.

Here are my choices: 1) I could stick with LOTRO, which I might start to love once I get further into the game and find my place in the community; 2) I could get WOW, which I tried once and was intrigued by, and join my friends on campus (even though I'm a bit late); 3) Or I could get into EQ2, of which I know very little (except that there are a crapload of classes and races but that SOE is a shitty company).

FYI, I predict I would play for about 2 hours on weekdays and more time on the weekends, depending on whether my GF and I have anything special to do or w/e.

From what I read in forums, LOTRO is cool but not very innovative (which is kinda true),  WOW...well, WOW is WOW but has been around for a LONG WHILE and getting into it at this point might be hard, and EQ2 is pretty cool but their trial and support both suck.

This would be my first subscription game. I played GW and tried a ton of free crappy MMOs in the past.

So...any ideas? Thanks a bunch.

Well it depends; do you want to play with real-life friends that you know? Or start a game where it's just you and whomever you meet online. Personally I would play with my buds, you are almost guaranteed to have more fun that way.

Ok lets take an example:

I have a Rogue LVL 70 in Warcraft, even my friend has one and we have got almost identical armor, still whenever we duel its always me who wins, guess why?.......My friend cant play properly with a Rogue.

Same scenario he is playing his Hunter against mine but he kicks my ass. Why?......Because he is better with ranged chars.

Now take another scenario, lets take a CS pro player and give him my Rogue and let him have a duel with my friend......guess what will happen......MY friend would annihilate him.

MMO's do require skill, it does not have to be all keyboard and mouse skil. MMO's require you to strategize. atleast in WOW its not all about who has the best armor, anyways in WOW if you have friends you can easily get a armor set similar to the other players.

Yes MMO's do require to be tweaked a little in the skill aspect but not as much as the people here think.

Yes MMO"S are getting simpler by the day and are becoming more solo oriented......thats really sad, but they still require skill and character knowledge to play.

ILL rant more later.....I am feeling hungry.

MMOs require no skill at all. They do, however, require lots of time...

It's not just that but the other day i was browsing looking for MMO info when i saw an advert for an MMO that claimed i could "Fight monsters in a 3d world". Really? I did not know we were technically capable of that in 2008.

Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the 3468648723 new MMO's that are released every day that are completely and utterly worthless. Or maybe it's the plethora of F2P MMO's that seem to spawn overnight that always look exactly the same and always boast the same features.

And other catchy titles like "Join the quest" "Make new friends" "Explore a beautiful world" "Fight evil dragons".

Seriously, who cares? Everyone should care. Funcom lied, again. He's not being a troll, he's just complaining about being lied to. He thought that the game would support massive guild battles, but instead, here's more how it goes.

There's an extremely finite number of battle keeps. In order to siege these keeps you need a preset time and permission, which is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. To get the privelage to attack it, you need to grind the CTF game, those with the most CTF points get to siege. And even then, only 48 people get to. That is a very small number. That is nowhere near the epic battles they advetised, and considering all the other features they cut, I"m not even surprised.

The game was just released what.... a few hours ago? If it had massive pvp battles included then what else would you all complain about? If you feel that you have been lied to THEN DON'T PLAY THE GAME. See how easy that was? I just saved you several hours of heartache...

Seriously... who cares?

What are you going to do against 48 other players except get pwned? Would another 48 pwning your face make the game better for you? Take the game and play it, if not log off and find something else to boo-hoo about.

Yep, an epic rip-off of WoW...  I'll take blood, guts, and actual combat over a WoW rip-off and more elves...

No thanks.

Um ok... here it goes

Warhammer is an IP created by Games Workshop. Games Workshop has been around for at least 25 YEARS, therefore it is not a rip-off of WoW, but in fact, WoW is a complete rip-off from Warhammer. Please, before you post your dribble on a public forum, do some research so you dont come off sounding like a complete moron.

Epic is not that word I would describe; good is more appropiate. For those of use bored to tears of WoW (raises hand) I can understand the enthusiasm for WaR. But to be frank, I'm not really excited about another fantasy MMO. I would have rather seen Warhammer 40k MMO produced. Instead we get WaR, again, it will be great but not epic.

The problem is that WoW beat WaR to the punch; they (Blizzard) snagged the lore, put a twist to it and called it  World of Warcraft. This game should have come out YEARS ago. Now it follows a very successful IP and is trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. I'm not hater, or fanboi of either game, just giving my opinion.

IPs that I would like to see become MMOs: RIFTS (by Palladium Books), Exalted (White-Wolf publishing), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. All of these have sci-fantasy theme to them. This is where I think the industry should head. But please, please, not another fantasy MMO.

Are you talking about the GAME ITSELF, or just the LORE?  Because it sounds to me like you're just pissing and moaning about the Franchise, not the game itself.  The game itself will be all about epic pvp battles which is a complete 180 degree difference from how WoW approached things.  Let me simplify:

WoW = lame instances and arena battles

WAR = Epic open world pvp warfare.

You see the difference?  Anybody who thinks WAR will be a clone of WoW is either ignorant or just plain stupid, imho.

The game mechanics is 100 times more important than the lore, as far as I'm concerned.  It's the meat and potatoes of the game.  If they get that part right, they're already 90% there.

And here we have a classic example of a fanboi; he calls anyone who has a different opinion than his a stupid / ignorant...

My friend, as I said this game should have come out YEARS ago. What's so epic about elves, dwarves, PvP, questing, and dungeons? You mean to tell me that you've never seen these specific examples of gameplay before? To be quite honest I see nothing in this game that has not been done before. Like I mentioned before I'm not a hater of the game; in fact I'm a huge fan of Games Workshop. They make quality games that include a rich history that's easy for the player to delve deep into.

Other games that were said to be epic by fanbois on this forum:

Vanguard

DDO

RF Online

Tabula Rasa

Need I say more? So go ahead and tout your epic game, it's what your paid to do. Meanwhile I'll temper my enthusiasm until I acutaly see the finished product.

Is WoW the only MMO you have played? I get the feeling it is.

As for the whole "brings nothing new, so why do it" thinking, I just have a simple set of questions for you.

Did you go to and pass the 1st grade?

Did you go to and pass the 2nd grade?

Why did you bother going to 2nd grade since it's just like first grade just slightly different?

Did you go to and pass 3rd grade?

Why did you bother going to 3rd grade since it's just 1st and 2nd grade over again, just slightly different?

So on and so forth, since I'm sure you get the idea. As for your questions, you're asking for personal opinions, which you already have an opinion on. Are you unhappy with WoW and not wanting to quit? What is bringing you to a separate game forums if you are content and happy with your current game?

1) MMO's are about the journey. You allow yourself to experience another world and view the ideals of other people. I played wow for 2 1/2 years, and I also have many friends and level 70's. I also quit WoW due to there being nothing new to do. I am waiting on WAR to start the journey anew and go back to having fun.

2) The Tome of Knowledge is new to the genre, the rest of it has been used else where. Having a personal book about your character inside of a game, which is written for you and includes everything you've done and achieved is something new and nice.

3) WoW is the same as all the other games in that respect. They made up an IP (Warcraft), evolved it some, and then made it into an MMORPG (WoW). You liked WoW, so chances are you problem is not with the IP's, but more of the actual gameplay.

4) I think about half of the tabletop players will venture into WAR to at least experience it. I agree they are probably die-hard to their tabletop, but if you give someone the chance to see their dreams come true, how many want to say no? I personally know about 15 people who are Tabletop players who will be playing WAR full-time in addition to their tabletop play.

Also, I would have bought war and played it back in 07 had it been released.

First of all thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Now my tu
