this all adds up to something, and its almost too obvious to post.  Either you have a poor memory and havnt logged in the past year.. or you're playing on very low video settings.   
I disagree with everything you've said as far as graphic quality goes with the exception of animations and NPC life.  The rest of it must have to do with your video settings, because the shadows/lighting/reflections are all proper.  The game also has fogging and halos in fog.  Its especially noticeable at night time when viewing distant lighting.  There are also birds that fly and critters that run around on the ground.  The water reflections correct.  Not sure why you're seeing it with such poor quality?

I have been playing with all of the settings maxed out (even maxed out more than what is available in the UI in the ini file) during beta and 1 month after realease on an ati x1900xt-512. Last week I have played it maxed out with an nvidia 8800gt.
Yes, as I said I see no shadows apart from characters and trees. Can you show me a screenshot with world object shadows (houses, fences, etc... objects have no shadows).
And yes I don't see any water reflections. Could you also post a screenshot?  I'd be glad to see these shots as I can't see this ingame and I have never seen any shots with world object shadows or water reflections. I hope it's my settings as you say.
As for the other engine features, yes some of them are there, but I still see so much is missing compared to other games. No only compared to lotro or aoc, but even free to play games like perfect world.

I have nothing against Vanguard, in fact id love to have been able to get in on the free time, but SOE  screws up random stupid shit all the time, like this vet invite program that I received and how I cant participate....even thou they sent me the email...you see the situation?

No i dont Terranah. I dont think sony deserves the rep they got myself. I think Lucas Arts is more at fault than sony when it comes to what happened in SWG

AoC has a unique combat system and finally a high quality Low Fantasy content, only these 2 reasons are enough to understand AoC is a good step in MMOs.
Vanguard is one of my favorite games, but the idea Vanguard is cult and hardcore is not exacly right, Vanguard is easier than Age of Conan and Everquest 2, Vanguard has less content than AoC, and after some dev´s decisions, Im not sure Vanguard will grow in the future.
Again, about the console thing, AoC in the 360 will be different than the PC version, AoC has the same system Everquest 2 has...and EQ2 is a PC game. Bioshock came first in the 360, dont you think it is nice to have a game like Bioshock in the PC too?
Anyway, I still like both games and I think this idea of Vanguard vs Age of Conan is non sense.

Thats funny your post contradict's every thing ive read about AOC . I've have'nt read one post yet where people havent said AOC is the easiest game they have played by far.Even on there own forums there's posts about raiding been to easy
And content past lev 40 seems to be the biggest complaint ive heard people bitch about. I find it hard to believe AOC has more content than Vanguard , when ive got 8 characters and have been playing sence day 1. I can tell you honestly theres still stuff i havent done or even seen in vanguard. Am almost tempted to get the station pass just for the 4 extra character slots you get
Am not bashing AOC, i havent played it.I probally would have because i want a PVP to play along with Vanguard. But funcom screwed up with me by hiding the fact that thier game wasnt finished They didnt reveil the state of the game untill they where absolutly forced to by people complaining. Sorry but i just dont pay money to people like that for anything.If they would have just said "Hey we have a pretty good game here, needs abit more work." Well i would be playing both right now and not bitching about either one.

I am not a fanboy of Age of Conan.......in fact I am not a fan of ANY online game. None of them are worth that much respect as none of them are actually good games in themselves. They all repeat the same old tired formula, plonking the players into a static unchanging gameworld in which all you can ever really affect is the growth of your own character. All of them rely on hooking the players by being addictive but none of them are actually good games to play as such. Afterall if there were no "exp levels" and "phat loot" to gather up, would anyone play these games purely for the fun of playing? They all dangle the mythical golden carrot in front of our noses to keep us paying and playing.
I have not even bought AoC yet as I am waiting for it to iron out its problems and flesh out its content first (all mmos go through this). Besides by that time Warhammer will be out so I might not even bother with it anyway.
However some of them do a better job than others and make a good attempt at tricking the player into thinking they are playing a top quality game. AoC at launch is clearly doing a much better job than Vanguard did and even now after so much time has passed Vanguard is still a pile of stale old crap. Oh it will no doubt still be around in a year or two because afterall no matter how rubbish or big a failure a game is there will always be someone out there who thinks its worth the effort.
But seriously trying to sway players from AoC to play Vancrap is pretty ridiculous dont ya think?

I dont understand where you guys find all these bugs, game breaking ones at that. Ive been playing sence day 1. I just got my 8th alt , a bloodmage up to lev 37 . ive done all the major questlines and 100's of other quests and the only thing ive seen that i would consider a bug is a few times ive had to do the /end group loot because we couldnt loot

Ya really baffles me considering am retired and play vanguard everyday. Sometimes for a few hours and sometimes i get in group and roll for most of the day Am not saying people are lying because i know people have problems. But myself i really cant remember the last bug i ran into.

I have a ranger at level 50 I would not recommened ranger at all. I think it's one of the three worst solo classes in game along with Sorcerers and Rogues. It's even worse than warrior. Yes first 35 levels is a cake, but after level 40+ you really come to a point where you will have a very hard time soloing even 3 dotted mobs.

Dont know why your having a problem with your ranger. I can kite level 50 5 dots all day long and never stop or even pull my melee weopons out once. I can also kite 3 high level 4 dots at the same time no problem what so ever

After only 2 days of playing and only having a lvl 7 Kojan Sorceror, I cannot accurately tell the size of the community and can only go off of what the in-game community says, so I won't disagree or agree with you on the community size. However, I last played in January when they offered the free month, and it doesn't seem that the community has grown much according to comments made in /regionsay. It seems that population is level and region specific and mileage may vary. If you want to group, you must go where the majority is. If you want to explore what you want to explore, you most likely will have to do it solo, unless it is in-line with what the majority wants to see. I see this as a problem, because I was told to go to Thestra if I want to get a lot of groups. I am accustomed to playing MMORPGs that has grouping for all areas of the game, so that you can explore all areas with a group if you want.
As for the open world feel and lack of restrictions, I completely agree and that is one of the things I love about this game. The only complaint I really have right now is the inability to sprint using your endurance as a guiding factor on how long you can sprint and the lack of class customization. The comment was made that there are a lot of classes, which a normal player can just find a class that fits exactly to their playstyle. However, many games have as many classes and still offer good class customization, such as DAoC and EQ2.
At any rate, if a person is looking for an old school feel in a new MMORPG, Vanguard is a good game to consider. It is polished enough to be called release quality and I wouldn't consider it beta quality anymore. The only major lacking feature in the game at the moment would be the size of the community. This could be solved with the release of the trial island, combined with good marketing. I will continue to play through my 30 days of subscription and see how things turn out.

As far as grouping myself i have absolutly no problem finding groups for anything i want. Ive played sence day 1, so i do know where do go and stuff and that helps alot But honestly just watch chat the amount of groups out there is unreal. Dont be shy form one yourself. You would be surprized how many times you can get a group just by asking in OOC channel. I think someone made a new channel for low players to find groups its /join lowbies. I think thats it just ask in game someone will tell you
