Most MMO's had some kind of trial even before wow did.

The last saturday downtime was really a bad idea but today, it's just the scheduled meaintenance, every mmo has it. But the truth is, they are looonger than most regular maintenances from other mmos.

The closest game that I know of is Xsyon. You might also want to take a look at Haven & Hearth, Salem, Neverdaunt,  and ArcheAge (if it ever comes out in NA).

Xsyon is as close as it going to come to a Wurm 2.0. Salem is being made by the guys behind Haven & Hearth, both are fairly hardcore. Neverdaunt...is difficult to explain. ArcheAge looks like what an mmo is meant to be, a mix between Ultima and Wurm. I'm a little skeptical about ArcheAge beause it's being made in Korea and I've never seen a game from there that was worth playing, so we'll see on that one.

Mechanics looks good but Do they really think people will play this game with this art style? Horrible design. Even if gameplay is more important than art style there is a line, a minimun, and in my opinion they dont reach that minimun.

I have nice memories of EQ2 but the more they do and add to the game, the less I like it. This Wings thingy just crossed a line for me. But if if the actual playerbase likes it, it's ok I guess.

Everquest 2 is free to play too. You can play with a bronze account but if you spend 1000 station cash you become silver member forever wich will give you some interesting bonuses.

So they can have all the servers they need, making money from each of them, but they can't give their customers a forum for each server with at least one moderator? Maybe even 1 moderator for 2 or 3 servers? Come on, I'm sure each server makes money for more than 1 person, they are just being greedy there.

The forums and websites avoiding and deleting all this threads and information are mostly afraid of legal actions taken from the developers and publishers against them of helping / allowing this kind of information on their sites. If I had a site or forum I will probably be smart and do the same.
