Defiance: Casting Begins for Tie-In TV Show
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/18/12 2:33:59 AM
Yeah... if it's FPS and on console, I won't even bother with it. ... Otherwise, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the game & show both work out. |

Don't call me a hater because I don't like the game
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/27/11 10:07:23 PM
I agree with the OP. This isn't the game I was looking for. I want to go home and rethink my MMORPG-life. Is the game 'okay'? Yes. Is it disappointing? Absolutely.

Why are so many people disappointed with a game that was designed well?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/27/11 12:18:49 AM
As much as I want to like the game, it's tough to do so due to a few key 'gotchas'. There are 'gates' in the game that 'force you to group up. While I know this is an MMO (not a single player game), this is an inconvenience when I have to stand around and wait for other players. There aren't any LFD/LFG tools in the game, so I use the chat channels... that are typically filled with trolls. Next... Class balance issues. Yes, every game has them... but we're not talking about every game... we're talking about THIS game. With enough weeks in beta and such, I would've expected the balance issues to have been reviewed and fixed. They weren't. And, any time you are on the losing end of that spectrum... it's not a fun place to be. QQ? No. Play a FOTM.... which may be a class that you don't want to play, but you do it because you're tired of the frustration of playing an undertuned class. Next... Lack of options during character creation. A game-breaker? No. A disappointment? Yes. More races would be nice. Are there more planned for future expansions? I'm sure there are. Next... Customer service. I'm sorry, but I expected 'better'. I just did. Availability and communication have been 'less than SAT'. ... All in all, it's Star Warsy... which is great. But... I don't know. Just seems... 'empty' or without heart. |

Agreed... 1000%! The Ministry of MMO's just found a valid voice.

So far I'm loving the game. The only two negatives I have are:

Originally posted by keithian Agreed... on both points. I honestly did hope that we would've seen more choices durign creation as well. Maybe they will add more customization options later on. And I actually had hoped for more species to choose from and was disappointed in that regard, Vent vs game speech... yeah, that's an issue. Will need to find a workaround for that. |

PvP and PvE exploits still in place?!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/14/11 3:42:44 AM
Originally posted by MMOExposed It does impact other players. There is a ripple effect that you aren't taking into account. The players that use exploits to hit cap level will be moaning/groaning that 'there is no end-game content' OR 'OMG, I'm bored' or 'blah, blah, blah'. Those exploiting douches will give the game a bad wrap. |

Having played both games for years... I think it's really a fair assessment. Why? How? ... SWG did not just change with the NGE. It changed with the CU(RB) - Combat Upgrade (Re-Balance). I think that when Blizz took away the ability to really use hybrids and truly customize your character... that was the CU(RB) for WoW. They changed the way you played your class. Period Everyone was forced into nice 'rank and file' builds with maybe 1-2 extra points left over to 'play with'. You MUST place this many talent points into talent tree X before you can put any into antoher talent tree. Again, removal of options. Forced to play your class in 1 way. And no, dual-spec didn't help, tbh. ... Flash forward... The new talent tree's for MoP don't really reverse the effects that were brought on with the changes leading into Cataclysm. And, I think the point that everyone is trying to make against the new talent tree's is... there are too few choices. There just seems to be too many things that have been 'taken away'. Chalk it up to raw and initial knee-jerk reactions to having an increased reduction in the number of choices we have... but this really does look like they are stripping more options. In a game where everyone has been asking for a way to customize their characters and try to set themselve apart from the others... this change looks like it's going in the other direction. ... And then, to add insult to injury, classic and iconic abilities of one class were handed out to other classes. So, not only did Blizz oversimplify choices you make within your own class and character... they made picking a class even easier by having increased amount of overlap of abilities between classes. I loved playing as 'class x' because I brought this buff or that ability to the table when I played in a group. I knew what I added to the overall synergy of the team. Then, being able to play with the talents to increase the number of utilties that I could bring into the picture. I know that Blizz think's they are 'helping' with the reduction. They aren't. Overall, the NGE was an absolute dumbing down of SWG. They reduced the number of classes and build options. I really don't feel 'NGE' (New Game Experience) is a bad label for the new talent experience... it really is fairly accurate. |

Will SWTOR be the largest MMO launch ever?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/23/11 3:07:59 AM
The largest MMO launch ever? Yes. I don't count 'expansion releases' as 'launches'. Blizzard has had amazing success with their expansions, but the launch of the actual base-game is what we're talking about here. I think RIFT had a pretty solid launch, honestly. But I think SW:TOR will destroy the numbers. Will SW:TOR have 12 million subs after month one? No. And i certainly don't think it should in any way reflect as a 'failure'. I think that's the overall number everyone is somewhat expecting still though. It's not realistic... but that is somewhat of a 'line in the sand' that people are using as a 'mark of success'. They want to see that 'passing of the torch' from WoW to (insert the name of the new MMO here). It's not going to happen at launch, and I we should all be careful to remember that. |

World of Warcraft: Activision-Blizzard Stock Downgraded on Declining WoW Subs
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/23/11 3:02:01 AM
The problem with this article... is that those that play and enjoy playing the game feel like they need to defend their game and their personal opinions. They often take this type of a post as a personal attack on perhaps their favorite pass-time and then the flaming begins.
As others have stated... we know that WoW (as a game) isn't what it used to be. In an effort to vastly improve the game, they messed with the recipe. Think of WoW as you would Coke. Cataclysm is 'New Coke' and WoW is 'Classic'. When is the last time you saw a bottle of 'New Coke'? If and when Blizzard decides to 'unscrew' their mess, they can bring the game back around. Doing so, however, will have its own set of consequences. Personally, I'm thankful that there are other games and many choices to choose from. While I don't want to be a game-hopper, if I hate what Blizz is doing right now, then I can go play SW:TOR or RIFT or eventually GW2 or Secret World.

Why WoW will more then likely remain Number 1
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 11/17/11 1:47:56 AM
The game is still fun from time to time, but it's no longer the addictive game that it once was. Let's be honest, the game really is a shadow of it's former self. Yes, it has 'more features', but that doesn't really make it a 'better' game. Some will say it's the shift in the game to assist casual or new gamers. Others will say that it's a shift in the game to help grow their sub base in the Asian mrket. ... Time and 'multiple' MMO's will kill WoW. There is no single game that is 'the WoW-killer'. As more and more games come out, the playerbase will spread out into other games. They aren't going to flip a switch and jump from WoW immediately to 'game x'. We're not going to see some immediate and defining transfer of the heavyweight belt to some other game. Old age and the freedom of choice will kill WoW. ... That being said... TITAN is actually terminal cancer for WoW. As Blizzard resources are slowly pulled off of WoW and they are added to the Titan Dev team, that really takes a lot of the forward momentum that WoW had away. It doesn't have the internal creative power or resources to keep moving forward. Blizz went through a significant growing pains with WoW as it grew. And I really don't think they are honestly capable of managing 2 MMORPG's + the other games in their stable. Ask their support teams. Ghostcrawler and the other dev's can stand on the stage at Blizzcon and pound their chests all they like... but the folks working behind the scenes will tell you that they are spread too thinly. And honestly, the next time the players ask for something and the Dev's respond with 'we really want to do that' or 'we've always wanted to do that'.... BUT... "we just haven't had enough time".... That answer is not acceptable. If you've played WoW and been a loyal subscriber for all of the years that the game has been around, the last thing you really want to hear is 'well... we'd get to that... but... most of our focus is really on Titan...'. But that's the message that I'm getting.
Again... time and other games will kill WoW (Titan included). |

Anything truly complex, hard, or thought evoking has been simplified, nerfed, or watered down.
Why? The most simple explanation: To reduce customer service requests/tickets.
People are lazy. Most won't even take the time to alt-tab to their browser and use Google to search for an answer. They will, however, create a ticket and request assistance. Thus... In game tools and aids are implemented to help make things increasingly more 'simple'. Almost everything has been made 'easier'.
Is that good? In some ways, yes. In others... no. Blame the dumb and lazy people if you don't like the direction that games are going.

5 more days till the most sucessfull franchise for any online game ever releases new game
General Gaming « General Discussion 11/04/11 6:45:38 AM
Too bad that CoD multi-player content is watered down console-ported garbage. Seems like the only fun servers are actual 'crouch' servers. Other than that, it's nade spamming, sprint around the map, craptastic ADHD blahhh. The game needs to go back to at least original Modern Warfare standards... if not before. Looking for a comfortable medium between MW3 and BF3, tbh. .... Console FPS ... terrible. Just damned terrible. |

World of Warcraft: The Talent System 2.0
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/26/11 1:29:11 PM
It's still 'less'...
Blizzard has a funny way of making us think we're getting something 'amazing' when we're actually just making whatever they give us 'work', somehow. This is a slap in the face. There are 'spec's' of classes that are actually left out of this process. I'm not impressed. At all. I think the dev staff that they have left on WoW is scrambling. The torch of focus within Blizz has been passed from WoW to Titan.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Overview
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/23/11 2:16:12 AM
Having Panda's as an optional playable race... okay. Having an entire expansion revolve around them... wtf. Underwhelming. Honestly. Cute. Funny. Sure. I get it. I do. But what about the folks that wanted something 'above' and 'beyond'... further character development and a deeper, more meaningful direction for the characters that we've been playing for 7 years? The views of the 'vocal' don't necessarily reflect the views of the 'masses' or the 'majority'. Understood. But for those players that want something more for our characters... aside from another RAID boss to fight OR another arena season to go through... what is there?

DC Universe Online: F2P and the Community
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/20/11 4:09:32 AM
I finally decided to quit. When I rarely see anyone out in the open world and only 1-2 people in a hub at a time... the game appears 'dead'. Aside from the Star Wars IP, DC offered the most enjoyment and best memories as a kid... and as a grown up (kid, lol). But with no other players to play with... the game just doesn't feel like fun. Maybe the F2P change will help? Who knows. I think that after what SOE did to SWG and now how poorly DCO has performed... I don't think I will ever support Sony again.

I have to agree... Rift is missing 'something'. It just doesn't seem 'finished'. Capital cities? Where?1 building surrounded by... a few huts? That's a capital city? So many build choices that they all seem a bit watered down, as others have said. It's not that I want 'fewer' choices... I just want each choice to really matter 'more'. The world seems... kind of 'bland'/boring in a lot of areas. But I guess it has to be 'open' because they need to have area's with space for rifts to port in. Prestige needs to matter 'less'. The game is so gear-based that it suffers. Each event seems to be a new kind of rift. And? Colors change... mobs kind of change... but they all come from 'a large tornado in the sky'... a rift. Why doesn't the earth open up for fire, earth, and water rifts? How about death rifts only spawning 'in the dark'? So many other things they could do to break up the hum-drum. An auction house that needs some serious help. The crafting system is also 'in need'. Hopefully 1.6 helps. I really hope it does. |
|
|
Moving from Earth to Water to Death to Fire etc.,... 'rifts' doesn't = content, imho. The game has moments where it is fun. But overall, I don't see any great level of 'depth'. I certainly don't see the longevity. I'm still subbed. I can't say that I play all that much anymore. Maybe 3-4 hours a week? I just don't see much in the game that warrants more time than that.
