It may take some time but I have high hopes for dfuw and AV they are doing all the right things right now in beta its just going to take them a while to get everything fixed but so far very happy with there work lvl.

I too am happy with the newfound communication. My inner cynic, however, reminds me that they communicated just like this during the Darkfall beta. Hopefully they learned that the devs are not supposed to drop off the map when the game goes live.

Darkfall Unholy Wars releases open beta on Monday, to hear it from them. They will likely manage to do so, but it is AV, so one must be reserved in their optimism. Not F2P, but that has it's own benefits.. less bots, minimal hacks, etc.

That said, the original Darkfall was a great game, and getting in on the ground floor of any release is always nice.

F2P just makes it easy for the hackers and chinafarmers to ply their trade.

Lower subscription cost really probably does not matter. If you see people excited about the product and speaking as if they are enjoying themselves while doing it, you will probably join in. There will be thousands of us going with whatever fee gets charged, so wait and see what people think (and miss out on the first month or two of fun), and then make your decision about the extra $5. If you cannot afford it, you need to spend a lot more time re-evaluating your priorities and a lot less time gaming.

This whole entitlement trend among gamers is bizarre. They spend upwards of $10,000,000.00 USD developing and releasing a game and these kids expect it for free, lol.

We can't play Darkfall right now unless we have a DF 1.0 key?

Aren't the EU servers only open as well?

I lost my copy of the game, somewhere around here, but I still have it installed.  I just can't seem to connect to tyhe damn server.  EVER! I remember this bug all the way back in '09.  Timeout #2.

I miss Shadowbane

The game has been shut down since November 15th. That might have something to do with your connection problem. AV announced in September that the server would shut down on November 15th, and it is the only date AV has hit the very first try, to the best of my recollection.

Long time no see Tasos!

Don't hold your breath. Based on past history, both with interview dates and release dates, I predict at least a couple more delays due to "external factors".

I would be pleasantly surprised if the interview or the release actually occurred on time.. sort of, since this is round 2, after they renamed DF 2010 a couple of times after roughly round 6.

All that said, I look forward to hearing the interview eventually.

Lol. Sometimes being right all the time is a curse.

Wow someone posted this here also?

192 is completely incorrect and was founded upon some really stupid assumptions and poor math skills

Boosters are not different builds.  Each class will use one of the boosters...it isn't a customization mechanic.

There are 8 possible builds per class.  You have 4 choices for your main role and then only 2 for your secondary (because one of the leftover 3 will be blocked as an opposing school).

8 role combos per class * 4 classes = 32 builds.

Stop posting this garbage article on every gaming forum.  It's wrong.

1. there was never any incorrect maths

2. boosters are definitely a customisation mechanic, this is proven in the video if you watch carefully, when 1 role has its pools changed by switching between strength and dex boosters.

3. about opposing schools, see my blogs edit:

Pherhaps the only valid criticism of this post is that previously AV have stated there will be opposing schools. The last mention I can find of was 6 months ago in this june 08 blog post, back when the project was still called 2.0. If this now pointless feature was kept you'd expect it to be mentioned in any of the more recent role system posts, such as "unholywars role system description". But its true we cannot rule out the possibility which would needlessly reduce our 192 figure down to 128.

1. Yes, your math is incorrect. AV stated very clearly that opposing schools will cancel each other out, and has not stated that anything has changed.

2. Maybe. I really do not see a lot of variations on the builds by the boosters though, unless mages are going to boost STR.

3. They have called this project DF 2010, DF Arena, DF2.0 and DF UW. If you have been paying attention to AV the last few years, you should be well aware that the names change regularly, and further, you should know that they have a tendency to leave things alone after they build them. You are the ONLY person who has made assertions about the removal of opposing schools blocking each other, based entirely on your opinion that the feature is "pointless", and you have done it on many forums. Maybe you are spreading this disinformation in the hopes that they will make the change, but I would not hold your breath.

Based on what they have shown and described so far, it does indeed look like an entirely new game. Kind of sucks for those of us who have played for years, had a fatty bank and so on, since we lose all the time that we put in to the creation of our awesome characters, but on the flipside, DF 1 was dying a slow and painful death.

The new order of things looks like it will give a few carebear aspects, user friendly GUI, enhanced crafting system and a defined role system that will likely go a long, long way when it comes to attracting "normal" MMO gamers and encouraging long term play. While it may seem "dumbed down" for those of us that got used to and embraced the "hardcore" aspect of the game, the overall changes are dramatic enough that it should attract a lot of newer players, as well as some of the older ones that got fed up and left before.

As for why it is not on sale yet, I am going to guess that while AV is happy to accept the community wrath (and subsequent publicity) that comes with missing an announced date, be it for interviews or release,  they are wise enough to know that puling the same stunts after you have taken money leads to an entirely different outcome.

From my understanding masthead is basically just allowing interplay to use their engine, not actually involved much in the development.  I heard this awhile ago though, so it could be wrong.

if they have developed another engine outside of one used for earthrise, than they are definately making 2 games at the same time. Which probably explains why there is so much delay and no new info about development of the game. But a good thing is i believe that they couldve also droped ER altogether and canceled the game in favor of Fallout, which is not surpsing anymore after abrupt cancelation of APB. But if they really have decided to take on 2 projects at the same then they should really think about the consequences. THEY WILL NEVER BE SAME

Okay this has to stop. Lets get this straight, they have NOT dropped ER and they have NOT put FO in front of ER. They are only working on FO as suppport with their engine. The majority of work is done by Interplay. So once again MHS is NOT putting FO in front of ER and also the delays are NOT because of FO at all! They have told us this many many many times.

Lets also get one more thing straight! There ARE people in the community who are in closed beta! They have release information on the game and they do it weekly. Also they have released actual in-game beta shots that were made by closed beta players. The only thing we have not gotten is an updated in-game gameplay video. Be PATIENT it WILL come!

In that pile of recent "interviews", you might want to find a single new thing, as all of it has been said before, over the last two years and maybe a little longer.

The reality here is that there is an announced release period of "Q4 2010". The inside of that window is less than 10 days away, and the outside is about 13 weeks.

So, if you were not having problems meeting your (revised) release date, you sure as hell would release more than 3 screenies a week and you might plug the upcoming release in those insterviews you so thoughtfully pointed out.

Since this has already been done once in the past, (the announced Q2 2010 release), and the pattern is indeed excatly the same, a month or so of 3 screenies a week, a few interviews regurgitating the same old vague ideas, I feel quite confortable speculating that ER is indeed going the way of vaporware, or possibly will release someday by 2015 (making it vaporware.. with the advent of the new quantum processors announced a few days ago, in 5 years, the gaming world will change and ER will be outdated). I understand that this is a difficult idea to grasp for you and a few others, as you have wasted several years and thousands of posts on a forum that has no real game associated with it, but there it is.

They cannot, which is why ER has been delayed for the better part of a year and Fallout Online is tentatively scheduled for sometime in 2012.

I agree with the threadstarter. Truly "if". Popped on to the forums to ask if the game was still on schedule for the Q4 release date, and noticed several other posts over the last 6 months asking the same thing. All of them were locked and directed to the announcements section of the forum.

While I understand that forums get easily cluttered with questions like that, the last announcement made about the release date was at the time of the announced delay at the projected Q2 release. (something like 5 months ago).

Some of us simply do not frequent forums, but are dedicated gamers, willing to pay for a game if it is worth playing. Personally I have no problem with a company not wanting to release until it is a product that will satisfy the customers, but if you are going to delay, let those potential customers know about it in advance.

With the front end of the announced release period a mere two weeks away, and not a single word from the developer, (other than random interviews with obscure blogs and websites, restating vague generalities that have been spouted since day 1, and a whopping 9 screenshots, three of which are the same), I think it is quite realistic to place this game into the 50/50 possibility of it becoming vaporware.

Even if it does get released some day, I fear that those of us who still like the concepts enough to purchase a subscription will be very, very lonely.

I dont know that any FPS should be labelled as a MMO. Sure a lot of people can play, but my understanding is that everything is instanced. That is really not much different than HALO, with the obvious exceptions of vehicles in HALO, and the fact that this game is PC based. This has been one of the primary complaints that I have heard from a few of my friends who got into CB. There are a lot of other complaints as well, but nothing you should not expect during a CB test (balance issues and what have you). My friends dont seem to understand that.

The instancing issue is a big one though. Who wants to join an oversized lobby and only be able to pk when people accept your challenge? One of the biggest joys of a good fps is the ability to go on random killing sprees, sneaking up on those bigger than you, and utterly destroying those smaller than you.
