The trailer video looks awesome. Not exactly sure how this game is a persistant world MMORPG, looks more like a regular RTS. Looks pretty badass though.

Results:

So, I finally got the game to install, got my account setup, logged in and made my pilot, and proceeded to enter the game. My first observation was that the chat channels were a lot fuller than I expected, so this game may not be having quite the desperate population problem that people are painting it out to be. The tutorial was shallow, leaving me with little idea of what to do at all, so I then asked in the Help chat channel for some tips. The other players proceeded to call me a noob and other assorted insults, as well as saying that if I sucked too much at the game to figure it out then I should quit. So much for warm welcomes.

Quality-wise, the graphics of the game are solid for an indy production; no need for overpowered hardware to play which is nice. Object animation and movement in the world could be better however as a lot of the mechs look like they're running a thousand miles an hour with how the leg parts twitter like a hummingbird. The controls were a little clunky and awkward at first but it didn't take long to get the hang of how to move around. Combat was a little lackluster and boring, but all I got to kill were simple NPCs. PvP combat might be better, but I haven't seen it.

Overall the game doesn't seem to be dead but it'll take some improving to be more successful. I can't say I'd pay the asking price per month to play this game with the way it currently is, but perhaps with time it'll offer more to the players.

Community: 4/10 - Way too many elitist jerks. Not new player friendly.

Content: 6/10 - Tutorial was mediocre and world slightly bland. Combat needs some adjustments.

Graphics: 6/10 - Pretty standard stuff for an indy mmo done on a budget.

Overall: 5/10 - Game just needs a lot of work. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it certainly explains why players aren't hanging out for very long. The ones who do hang around seem to be real jerkoffs, which isn't uncommon for mmos but seriously.. who sticks around to play if they only get crapped on the whole time? I might check in on this game again in the future, but for the meantime I'll stick with EVE Online.

Decided to try this game despite the players complaining about population problems. Got halfway through the client install, and it crashed. Not looking good but I'm a huge EVE Online fan and anything similar is worth a try in my book.

I'll post results

FAIL again this topic and you placed some very old screenshots also even a greater FAIL:(

Im convinced if you made a topic about WoW you would have placed newest screenshots.

Your whole survival(it seems was more of a copy of what you can find on internet) was carefully wriiten with whines about it then acctually write a real survival story and how you can enjoy this game.

I have again my serious doubs you have played Darkfall.

And why even mention a silly Dwarf thats famous not realy for his ingame action he mostly try kill newbees seem not worth famous status, but his FORUM WHINES AND CRYS are famous he more quit then stay subbed he whine and cry becouse he want solo kill 5 newbees instead 2 and when he get ownes by 5 newbees he come over to forum and nerdrage quit and say Darkfall sucks.

Again this trend of mmorpg.com writers about Darkfall have misrable failed to write down a nice story about a game thats worth more and deservers more then you guys give to this game credit for.

You OP and your colleges before you are not realy FFA full loot fans and that shows:(

Pls stop write this way about Darkfall you hurting it more then this small indie developer derserves.

Darkfall is great game and i can tell you that there are newbees who can tell a story thats way more positive and show how good COMMUNITY can be in helping them then your silly Dwarf loser encounter, and sneaky mention bordedom and grind sad realy sad that you guys dont even try be bit enthusastic about a small game as Darkfall is real shame:(

Have a nice day.

u mad bra?

Just resubbed after a six month absence to see what had changed. Sad to say this game is DOA. The ingame places that were busy 24-7 like Embry and Trader's Flat are dead empty now. Far fewer players than I remember being in Tabula Rasa when it closed. Seems like it's really difficult for a scifi character based game to get a hold in MMO land.

Everyone is waiting for Fallout Online. I can't say I blame them. I waited on FE for years and years.. even back when they had the beta with the old ass graphics engine, I tested it back then and had really high ass hopes for this game. I really REALLY loved the homepage for it back then with the slogan dead across the front, "This isn't your mom's MMO." The company didn't do the best job at capturing the feel they had intended from the original ideas after securing the new engine.

I guess that is pretty common on games nowadays with costs being as high as they are and deadlines having to be met. I do feel like they did a great job with what they had to work with, and the game isn't complete crap by any means. I just hoped for something a little different than what it evolved into, which is why I stopped playing. I don't have a bitter taste in my mouth from the experience but a few things could have made it just a little sweeter is all.

Perhaps Fallout Online will sate my thirst for post-apoc persistant world MMO shooters, but only time will tell.

I got hacked twice within 4 days about 2 years ago about 6 or 7 months after WOTLK launched before the wow account --> battle.net merge, I have no idea how since I never went to any risque wow sites, only curse dot com for my addons. I'm guessing one of my addons I got from curse was infected with a keylogger and those little buggers are never detected by antivirus software, or at least 95% of the time they aren't. So I got my character restored the first time and everything was gravy.. then like 3 days later it happened again. Boy I sure was pissed. I contacted the blizzard customer service again and they went through the trouble of restoring my character again minus my 13k gold that got stolen.. they couldn't give that back. I asked them to keep my account locked pending email verification that I was ready to use it again so I could do a system wipe. I formatted twice using DOD methods including my master boot record just to play it safe and then reinstalled windows and the game clean, and emailed them to unlock the account with a new password. That apparently did the trick and since then I haven't had any trouble at all out of the hacker fags that took all my shit

i think i lost a few braincells reading all 7 pages of this thread =(

Just to tell you a little peice of info warcraft 1(january 2004) came out before the first warhammer(november 2005).  So technically warhammer has always ripped warcraft

you are the biggest moronic idiot i have seen try and claim warhammer is a clone of wow...

news flash smarty pants

Games-Workshop started production back in the 70s distrubuting board games like risk and such to the english countryside the then created a game (YES CREATED!) called Warhammer. that was back in the early 80s.. they then created another game (ZOMG not another you cry) called Warhammer40000 which is based off 2 other games they made called gorkamorka and necromonda.

the same time they had all that made craptasticly crappy mc blizzard came to them and say "we would like to port warhammer to PC" G-W says thanks but no thanks.

blizzard then takes that and goes HEHEHE we be sneaky we be smart OH look we rename it WarCraft and drop 90% of the races and change a few things while making it really cartoony and ohh look we have our own game.....

now GW started a warhammer onine game back in 02/03 but canned it do to costs. WoW didnt start until about 04/05 from what i can tell.

the new warhammer online is newer and doesnt follow the first one. BUT it in no way is a clone of WoW.

WoW ripped off all of its game contect from Warhammer. so take your WoW fanboy stuff and cram it some where else.

WAR. may or may not play similer to WoW but that is because all games must follow a simlier pattern. FPS must be first person or 3rd. it must have some form of weapon and semi mission based.

RTS/TBS must have eagle eye view and allow some form of resoruce gathering.

MMO must be fully multiplayer, have quests, pvp, pve. fancy content.. little lag.

the OP is spot on that there is no such thing as a clone. UNLESS its like pirate king online vs tales of pirates. both ARE EXACTLY THE SAME! with name change.... that is true clones at its finest.

Warhammer is not made like WoW. the PVP does not apper to be locked and stupid. as well until War is atleast public betaed its pointless claiming it sucks, beats X game. or is a clone BECAUSE! (this is very important now) Warhammer is not finished. stuff can and does get changed between concept <-> gold status.

i have played warcraft. and some wow i hate them compared to the many other mmos i have tried and the many other RTS i have played. they have their merits but i dislike them for many reasons.

i play the Warhammer tabletop as well as the RTS games brought out by SSI and THQ. i like them and hate them for the many reasons as well. until War is open to play i cant like or hate it. i want to play it because its an offcial port from the TT. but who knows if i will truely enjoy it as ports never grasp the real game its taken from.

i suggest WoWtards to research warhammer vs WoW better next time.. least you get a less friendlier person shooting down your argument.

This entire thread is nothing but fail. 99% of you folks posting here probably haven't even been alive long enough to have experienced the best games of their times, yet almost all of you have a so-called genuine, informed opinion. Not one of you people flaming here have expressed anything genuine, or informed.

I'm going to break it down for you. First order of business:

Darkfall is a very good idea. An idea that is taking its time getting here. A lot of time. There's a saying that goes something like "all good things are worth waiting for." Do any of you people remember Duke Nukem? Darkfall might have been in development for around 7 years or something but look at Duke Nukem Forever. They released their newest teaser trailer for DNF circa October or November 2007 and it looks like it will rock face. That game has been in development for even longer than Darkfall. And it's coming from a big name development team. Darkfall and DNF are ideas. Ideas in progression, and I for one certainly hope they don't fall through.

Next order of business:

You kids need to stop with all this nonsense about grafix-this and grafix-that. Obviously you were all born into this video technology revolution where game developers got the idea that spending years worth of time developing a game to look neat in screen shots but play like total shit was an effective marketing approach. GRAPHICS DO NOT MAKE A GAME FUN OR SUCCESSFUL. Sure, good graphics can make it interesting but features, smoothness, and playability > shiny special effects and having to spend $500 to upgrade your pc. I have a decent rig but I do not want to HAVE to friggin triple-SLI GeForce 9 series video cards just to get 40+ frames in a game. Thats stupid and not worth buying a game that plays like utter shit even with superior hardware a la' AoC.

There's all this talk here about how WoW's graphics are dated and blah blah blah. GOOD. If they don't modernize the graphics engine and their customer's computers can eat it up in frame rate and internet latency that means their first customers DON'T NEED to replace their system to enjoy it, which means it stays successful. You guys can all talk shit about WoW saying it sucks or the grafix and cartoony shit is lame but Blizzard's employees are rofling at you all on their way to the bank with hundreds of millions of dollars in subscriber fees. If the game sucked it wouldn't be such a popular megahit for 4+ years running. People STILL play a little something you might of heard of called "Super Mario Brothers" on a little system you might know about called a Nintendo, around what.. 23-24 years later? 8 bit graphics wasn't what kept SMB alive.. playability and FUN did.

Darkfall may very well be vapourware. It IS a massive project, a groundbreaking and revolutionary project that will change the mmo industry for years to come IF it is successfully launched. It might currently be in the hands of people unable to handle the financial stress and labor stress or such a magnificent idea. But that doesn't mean it can't change hands to a more suitable vendor. It's like they took the greats from the past.. looks like a lot of UO, a bit of Morrowind/Oblivion, and crammed it into a goal with real potential to rock our faces. Who cares about what brand name its going to run under as long as this puppy gets released.

So, in closing, you guys should all PRAY this game gets launched, and learn a thing or two about why it should be launched PROPERLY, even if it takes another few years to get done. Forget about stupid crap like grafix engines and shit talking WoW or whatever other game you want to use as a benchmark of progression for upcoming games. The ideas this developer has detailed for Darkfall should pique you all into giving them your support so we all get to see this monster hit shelves. When it does, games will be forced to get even MORE creative and innovative to be able to compete, which plays out better for us, the consuming gamers. STOP LETTING COMPANIES LIKE FAILCOM GET AWAY WITH RELEASING TOTAL SHIT. We all, regardless of what gaming era we are from, want games that will play like what Darkfall features. Support Darkfall, make it happen, better your gaming experiences.

Have a nice day.

lol, this gave me a chuckle...  Dude get off your high-horse and quiet down.

LOL I hear you ebonhawk. Both of us being almost 40 I to found it funny reading a 23 year old trying to present himself as a voice of experience.

More of a voice of experience than the 16 year olds pretending they know something about the golden ages of gaming while they were tossed into the middle of the video technology revolution circa Bungee's Halo..

Besides, you have to agree I make a valid point, even you in your age as a gamer have to agree gaming could take a lot of points from Darkfall's ideas ;P

Every arguement seems to devolve into blind faith in one extreme or the other: Darkfall will release this year in an almost perfect state and blow the minds of players, or its some elaborate scam, extremely long con, that will either release bug ridden or never release at all.  Now, the only problem is, there is really no concrete evidence for either side, it's just personal feelings.  From what they've released concerning their game, the only opinion I can really conclude it that the game is still in development, and not near as ready for release as they state, unless they want to do a "guriella" release, which pretty much goes against how every games release cycle goes.

There are very good reasons why they are not showing much of the game, and I believe that is because its not as "ready" as they say it is, not because they'd rather be "working on the title then showing it off, even though they state it's just about ready for release this year".  They know how long they have been in development, and I'm sure realize that if they say, "this feature, and/or that feature needs more work and we're not ready to speculate when it will be ready for launch" they will lose more of their fan base.  So, they don't release any concrete information on the current state of their client, and make vauge promises that if they break, its ok, because they never said anything "officially".

When this game is close to being ready, you will know it, because like just about every other developer that wants to make a profit off their product, they will be showcasing it to the public, have set schedules for any types of Beta's, etc.  If they only do a small "internal" beta, then release, I believe they will shoot themselves in the foot pertaining to bugs/server stress/ etc, epecially seeing as they are promissing large scale PvP, town seiging etc, you can't internally test all those "massive" systems with 15-20 testers and AI.  Of course, no one knows the exact numbers of people currently testing it, but I'm keeping the number small (imo) due to the fact it is a small independant upstart company.  Too many things do not add up, IMO, to a release anytime before '09.  I really hope everything turns out great for Darkfall, I would buy it in a second, but with the history of the development, believing what they are telling you at face value is very niave.  You should believe what you can see/play/touch, not what someone, who wants your money of course, tells you is there but cannot show you.

You make a lot of very good points! I am for one totally agreeing with you when you say that there is no concrete evidence either way that says DF will go or will not go live. I'm not saying it will for a fact but I certainly HOPE it does, or that some game that shares this array of features, no matter the name or the maker, does arrive.

Interesting thing though with the "guerilla" tactic though. Isn't that what Blizzard just did with news of Diablo III? Well it's not a guerilla launch necessarily but they did keep it under wraps instead of super hyping it. Maybe that's not such a bad tactic to use. Only more time will tell, suppose.

I'll probably take a look, as I never gave Asheron's call a try cause at that time period I had my head up Diablo II's ass.

At any rate Most of my first time ranting here on this  site wasn't so much about Darkfall, but the idea of Darkfall could be, and even if this project falls thorough another one with the same ideals could emerge. And that would be great.

And FYI, even 3D Realms has stated that DNF has been in constant development except for one period where they had to go through a ton of legal mumbo jumbo concerning the trademark rights to the name of the game. Their original engines were scrapped a few times given the modern ones coming out.

If that's true than they are just as big of a bunch of incompetent idiots as the Darkfall boys are.

Comparing one incompetent crew to another doesn't make either one of them any good.

Both projects are garbage.

If both Darkfall and DNF projects are both garbage, and have incompetent dev crews, then please point me in the direction of a project that isn't garbage, as I'm tired of playing the same crappy muck box after box, and would like to see some upcoming titles with promise and depth.

You're just another Darkfall fanboy who just dug up an old username you registered with back in 06.

This is my one and only name on here, I assure you, and I hadn't even heard of Darkfall til yesterday, actually. But after all the reading I've done even YOU have to admit if this project goes live it will be awesome, even if all you want to do is sit there and flame me for being a "fanboy"

And Duke Nukem Forever was not in development all this time. If you beleieve that than you're a fool. They simply picked development back up at some point. Or even simply restarted from scratch. It doesn't take years to make a FPS shooter.

No, it probably doesn't take years to make one. Which explains why most of them SUCK. It does take years to make one that rocks face, however.

And FYI, even 3D Realms has stated that DNF has been in constant development except for one period where they had to go through a ton of legal mumbo jumbo concerning the trademark rights to the name of the game. Their original engines were scrapped a few times given the modern ones coming out.

I've been a member of this site for quite some time now, an never bothered to post because I didn't feel that any gaming title mentioned on this site was really worth the time it would take me to write all this crap out.

Well now we seem to have one that is quite remarkable so I break my silence and now I'm on a high horse? Admit it. You're just as tired as me, just as tired as all of us, as playing underdeveloped could-have-been-but-wasn't games.

Darkfall, once completed, will be legendary if it even has half of what it claims. I only hope we get to find out one way or the other. At least it's making people's brains tick. The developers are coming up with some damn good stuff. I don't see why I need to be quiet about it.
