I personally always have actions set up to use after critical hits, dodge/parry, some that use more HP or Stamina, etc... Won't find me bashing the same button all the time ;) |

so, like i do every so often, i checked the ryzom dev blog here http://blog.ryzom.com/ today, and this is what i read:
D-5! 5 days before...
which makes me think: hmmmmmm....
all this secrecy, wonder what's going on xD |

I almost don't dare say it, but this game has potential... true, i'd like "true" 3D where you can fly straight up/down, make loops and such, like in a flight simulator, but I quite like both space and ground combat. Objectives should be marked on the compass though, unless it's a "find this guy/thing" type mission... If I need to go rescue people out of a burning ship, at least tell me where to find the ship... Other than that i've been having a blast, so many "missions" to choose from, i just take 'm all and fly about like i would in a sandbox game, with just a minor sense of direction, see where i end up and "accidentally" finish missions. Probably not the way it's meant to be done, but the way I like to do it ;) |

My worst fears realized, the game is very similiar to champions online

if the answer to this question was already given in this thread, forgive me, but i skipped ahead from somewhere halfway through page 3. I've gotten a free OB key from MMORPG.com, so i'm now in the process of downloading the game (at a painstaking 65KB/s... but whatever), but can't wait to ask one (to me) major question: Does STO force you to do missions? (outside the tutorial ofc) Or can you play it like a sandbox game? |

[Poll] When will STO become "Free To Play" ?
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 1/13/10 9:49:48 AM
voted for never because i hope it never will. free to play, means one of 2 things:
2: cash shop, giving some people advantages over others
and, no matter which of the 2, you'll have lots and lots of weird, immature players flocking to the game to play without ever paying, flooding the game with (forgive my words) newbies... If a game is worth playing, it's worth paying. |

they thought they were being funny, calling it "Unobtanium" ;)
PS: okay, it's a little funny :D |

yeah, rather than lowering graphics quality at first, decrease your maximum view ranges. The maximum view ranges in ryzom are way over anything your char should ever need, but look great if your comp can handle them of course ;) |

If you think Avatar is Ryzom-like, you should check out "Kaena - the prophecy" animated movie of people on a living, growing planet, with a tech spirit and magic spirits, hell, the clothes the girl wears are 75% the same as the ingame Fyros Heavy Armour ;) |

21 day free trial Tanzie, no limitations except time. If you try out ryzom: it has a steep learning curve, READ the tutorial texts on the island you arrive on, very important xD If you miss something or have questions, just ask in uni chat, awesome community, usually you'll get 3/4 people replying within a few minutes. EDIT: Damned, why didn't i see there was another page to this thread xD |

I've been worried that the small player base would force these guys to close down the game but from this interview it seems that their happy to be a Niche Rp game. I hope that the devs look into the Ryzom Ring feature it would be nice for it to actually be useful and maybe a bit easier to use. They should look at both CoH and even SWGs quest maker for ideas.
IMHO best stay away from the CoH one, especially the ability to gain XP in there... Would make things too easy wouldn't it :p |

Originally posted by Xondar123 Ryzom had awesome graphics on release day. But of course that's over 5 years ago, so now looks a bit dated. Still, if you can appreciate its unique art style it still looks great, and with the game's long view range you can get an amazing sight from atop hilltops. I've played Ryzom since before release (last open beta) and will continue to do so even though i don't have much time anymore. |

lovely, so the website is getting new people in, that's what it's for after all ;) |

If you had to guess what would Ryzom population numbers be?

Trekking is not necessarily a group-business, and if you're going to do it solo, i suggest doing it at a lower level rather than a higher level. Why you say? Because at a lower level, it doesn't matter much if you max out your DP (Death Penalty), as it's worked off fairly fast. At a higher level it takes ages to get rid of it ;) Well how can a newbie defeat the high monsters on the way? He can't, but mobs move, they walk about, carnivores fight and eat herbivores, they're not everywhere at the same time, and usually their "aggro range" doesn't extend beyond 25 meters. Knowing what mobs are aggro, and knowing their aggro range (for some it's less, for some it's more than 25m), and player skill can get almost anywhere on Atys.
That being said, harvesting/crafting can easily be done solo if you sneak to your harvest locations (at higher levels they're harder to reach), and as said you can hunt solo, though you'll have to rest between mobs, and not get as much xp per mob. Once you have a guild however, it's not unlikely that you'll find somebody willing to heal you between battles, or out of team during battles to find optimum xp gain, and guilds will usually provide with xp catalysts as well. Be wary of burnouts if you burn through levels though ;) |

mhmm, reality is, the french and german servers have a larger population than the international one... unfortunately... (even more so because international has its players spread out over different timezones) |

ahaah, but banners are expensive (especially on here i bet). But i agree Ryzom should get some more advertising done. Perhaps an interview here 'n there (those are usually free, lol) |

completely optional, as it's an older game, every type of craft has been mastered by somebody, so u can purchase items from other people. Most of the time though, your guild will fix you up. One downside to not crafting is that you won't have tons of cash, which translates to not teleporting around like crazy cuz that'll burn through your money supply fast ;-) |

If you could only name one favorite thing about Ryzom, what would it be?
General Discussion « Ryzom 10/01/09 3:02:28 PM
adaptability: from interface colors, positions, window sizes over building your own actions, options upon character creation (though we could do with some new haircuts *wink*) all the way down to the Ring where you can build your own scenarios (though the ring is, as we all know, far from perfect). Power to the players ;) |
