You're not being too picky. I entirely understand your point, and agree. It does not look like a design decision on the part of the in-game cultures, but on the part of the game developers instead. Not as if the dwarves decided to build something that way but as if the "things" have been made in entirely different universes with entirely different sets of rules. I have noticed this myself and it's been bugging me a bit.

Of course, I too will try and probably enjoy the game anyway and will not notice all those in the heat of the battle. But when I'm in an MMO, I sometimes I like to take a step back from the heat and just observe this alien world I so like to spend so many hours in... and that's when it will bug me. I too prefer that it does not.

I still hope they fine-tune that out.

Or maybe we're both seeing things? :)

By introducing real ghosts and sea monsters of course :)  Well done Flying Labs!

That is a very good point, in my opinion. Staying true to the feel of the colonial adventure genre is a smarter move than trying to be realistic in terms of atmosphere.

Really, let's have some more decent sci-fi mmorpg, please.

If old style cyberpunk RPG with its hacker class and such gives developers the scare, seeing as it might not have an instant appeal to the masses like fantasy does... Well then you always other sub-genres, which are  technologically less heavy. Like post-apocalyptic  sci-fi, straight space opera, or even steampunk if you don't want to stray far from the trend.

Though I must admit my ultimate sci-fi fantasy is is a beautiful MMO recreation of Blade Runner's dark and rain-slicked Los Angeles, 2019, with its thinly populated huge skyscrapers, flying vehicles and rogue replicants...

The bigger the IP, the bigger the taboos, I'm afraid.

I like the books and I am probably going to try the game, but forces of Sauron doing things they are not supposed to according to the books would not put me off so severely as to throw me out of mood. It could even be fresh and interesting.

Interesting.... but surely you still have to group up for everything, right?

I'm not quite up to date on this: Are we absolutely positive that gear will play no important part in combat?

I for one am grateful for any positive or negative opinion. It helps me navigate through the gaming world, helps me make some educated guesses and *not have to try every single game in the world to find one I might enjoy* (there are *a lot* of games out there). As long as an opinion is honest, as long as it reflects that gamer's true experience, I get something out of that. What they're upset about - whether that may bother me that much, what other factors may be related to it. Of course I'm really grateful for the (imo) particularly well thought out and eloquent posts, but I can do with wild and furious scathing as well if the alternative is no opinion.

So, come on, let the bashers do their thing. It's good.

If people make the wrong choices because of other people's opinions, they should improve on themselves, their ability to filter, their ability to make well-informed guesses. We should not turn down the volume on opinions.

Cause however you look at it, demanding people do not voice their negative opinions is just oppressive.

Not to mention it nerfs my incoming traffic :)
