Really pumped about this game.. played it for 2 hours last night and the combat is much better then another game with similar combat. Its NDA prevents me from saying which one however.....

I think from a marketing standpoint it seems smart...people will make a character, play it for a few days and maybe get hooked on it then decide to buy the game.

If they are playing open beta knowing their character will just be deleted they may not get fully into it or get far and remember it's being deleted and say "screw it, i don't feel like leveling again".

Just my thoughts really...

Makes sense to me as well.

I think these guys are pretty confident in their product.. I mean basically almost 3 months of closed beta withOUT an NDA at all. Doesn't mean it'll be a good game, but Bluehole doesn't seem to have much to hide.

Still all very optional to use kids..  the world isn't ending here..

Why doesn't everyone chill out and watch some videos / read up on the beta after this weekend and see if it's something your even going to want to buy....

While I would like to support the game if it has potential.. the company can't be selling it like a grade A MMO title (namely the monthly fee) if it's not.

Look at what Minecraft has done.. almost 5 MILLION people have bought the game at a resonable price, with no subs.

Bottom line, they need to align their pricing structure with what their game provides, not ask people to pay for it like a top line game, in hopes it will eventually be that.

SWTOR is the anti sandbox.

If TOR was 1/10 of what the opening was.. we would have had the WoW killer.

Some of the best Star Wars stuff I've ever seen.. but I hated the actual game.

I think the think that bugs me more about the expansion is not the pandas.. but the whole asian theme. Just never been a fan of it in any game. Played the starting area at Blizzcon and was just meh.

Why even allow ganking and then punish poeple for doing so?  Don't even call it a pvp server if your going to pull this crap.

Excitement level just went down a couple notches for this game.

They do have their plate full with trying to release 3 games this year. As well there's not really anything new to introduce this year.

Not sure why they would lie, and the notion that they have a bad rep right now is comical. People who read forum trolls, fanboys, haters and think it's a true sample size of all gamers out there are foolish.

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this is just a weak minded fool looking for attention.

Kids in need benefit, and collectors get a nice piece of gaming history. There is nothing bad happening here, no secret agendas.. just win win for everyone. Deal with it.

Who said there wasn't pvp gear?

Why people keep talking about Bioware like it's still it's own company is silly.

EA paid 700 MILLION DOLLARS for Bioware, they own it the name and run the show.

Just say EA is the worst company ever, Bioware as it's own company doesn't exist anymore, just the brand does.

You have to admit it does sound odd for someone to leave ones position before the project is done. I'm assuming he's spent the good chunk of the last couple years focuses on D3, only to leave before it's release.

And honestly.. your the Senior Producer for D3, where are you going to find greener pastures?

To me, clearly something hit the fan and they just parted ways.

So they plan to retain 800k by years end, so much for the WOW killer estimates.  I do think that might be around the number though if I am being honest.  I do not see it dropping to the 200k version like most.  That being said I also think for the company, title and supposed budget that 800k retained would be a failure with those three things in consideration.

200 million Cost

2.2 Million sold @ $60 (not even calculating increases sales from collectos and digital collectors which accounted for at least 1 milion) = 132 Million

800k x $14 /month = 11.2 Million

143 Million as of today.... which means they may be in the hole for another 50-60 million.  If the numbers stay the same, they break even in 5-6 months.

Let's assume they retain 500k subscribers for the next 2-3 years.  That's 7 million a month and 84 million a year.

If it cost them ~200 million to develop the game for the past four (4) years... that means they're spending ~50 million a year in development and operating costs.

That still leaves them ~25 million dollars a year in pure profit.

Stop comparing games to WoW.  By any objectie measure.... 25 million a year profit from a single game is very good.

What that tells me is that this game is going to be around for a VERY VERY long time, with constant patches and expansions.   After that, I don't give a rip about how many "I'm canceling my sub" posts there are.

I don't need forum trolls telling me what games I should and shouldn't enjoy.

PS - Those of you who are saying this game will only have 200k a month subscribers are delusional.  FFXIV, as big of a flop it was in the history of gaming still retains 50k.

85% of my guild is subbed and staying for the long haul.  Go check out the general chat in game and you see NO ONE complaining... it's only the minority.

If this game has a steady 500k subscriber base... it's a financial success.....

Some good stuff here, you do however need to add in Lucas Arts cut.. which is rumored to be around the 35% range (I think it's more personally.. George Lucas is one greedy dude).

If there is one thing WoW, Rift etc have on SWTOR from a profit stand point, is that they own their own IP, EA doesn't here.

Dudes talking like he's got a EA probe up his butt or something.

If you are doing all this for 'us', the gamer, and are sincere about it, look into the camera. C3PO has more emotion....

EQ and Ultima Online are still around.. thus I'm left to think that WoW will probably exist and evolve until either MMOs die.. or I do. They do evolve the game (for better or worse) and really there's no reason to stop doing so.

Funny thing is.. if there is a WoW 'killer'.. it will probably come from Blizzard. Theres nothing coming out that I see that will single handedly take it down.

I'm just hoping that we don't see an announcement that EA has purchased THQ and resurrected the 40k mmo.  Better the game die than suffer that fate.

Amen.

I've waited it out to get the full story on how world pvp would be, and I'm glad I did. This is Star WARS for gawd sakes.... the game was screaming for solid pvp in every aspect. Yet we get worse then what's out there with other games, due to instanced zones (man I hate that) and questing areas that do not over lap.

Very short sighted on BW/EA.

This is just a poor article really.

GW2 is in it's Alpha state right now. Sure it's got great ideas, but until people can sink some time into at least the tail end of a Beta state, it's foolish to go running around saying this can be a 10/10.
