Could you clue me into to what your standards are to consider an MMO from 08 to be a failure? Im curious as to what the rule sets are in your world.
i guess you do have a point, failcom claims to hold a 450k sub base atm, that will prolly shrink with WAR but 450k x $15, that's a lot of money, on top of the over 1million x the price of reg or collector editions of the game, definitely made a lot of cash, i bet AoC will hold at like 200k after WAR..if it gets that low, and then slowly die unless funcom pulls a miracle out of their bums |

Yes but does it cover the fact that all MMos of 2008 failed ...because of a nonpersistent world.
what the hell does that have to do with this topic? and AoC didnt fail because it was a nonpersistent world, i didnt mind that at all, it is simply too bugy, imbalanced, failcom is completely screwing up the FFA pvp system, do many empty promises, and yeah failcom fails...
What? the worlds in AoC and WAR are just as persistant as in WoW.....
no, WoW is a persistant world except for having to load into specific instances or traveling between continents, AoC has an instance for each section of the world...WAR, well i dont know i havent played it... |
|

cam, there is a difference between a persistent world and a sanbox, sure, beind able to walk around a whole continent is nice BUT if i cant build my own walls to claim a section of the continent as my own or kill someone randomly, anytime, anywhere, and steal all their stuff then it just cant be a sandbox...this is semi exagerating of course but get it into your thick skull, wow cannot be a sandbox, it just isnt plausible |

Can you imagine how much money Blizzard would make if it launched a WoW-style sandbox?

you CANT say something is sandbox compared to another game, it is sandbox or it isnt and WoW certainly isnt! |

I did, but thats kinds the point. All off 2008s next gen mmos have been failures because they dumped the world for the player. so you are saying that just because everything that is coming out lately is a epic failure that it makes wow a sandbox?....right.........wow is still wow, a sandbox is still a sanbox and wow ISNT a sandbox...
currently, the only good game out atm that is sanbox (and calling it sanbox is pushing it...) is eve online, you can be w.e you want with the skill system it has, it's economy is almost completely player dependant, you can build your own station in the middle of no where, hell, you can even stop people from going to certain places of the galaxy.
wait for darkfall (hopefully it actually comes out this year...im thinking early next year...) that will be the ultimate in sanbox, i believe they have several hundred skills (mid hundreds...)..jumpgate, which has a much bigger chance of coming out, seems to be kinda of sandbox like eve, but we'll have to wait for beta or release. |

yeah... i dont care about AoC or WAR, both of them fail, im just a little annoyed that you called wow an sandbox and just now said that it isnt and it is hidden behind an atmosphere...
please edit all your posts on this forum that call WoW a sandbox game...btw, did you read my first post in this thread? if not, please do... |
|
|
please read my post, cam
and btw, the leveling system in wow is pretty linear...at least if you want to do it the most efficient way, and then to get the top level armor you can only do it one way, do some craptastic raid instance hundreds of times...then if you want the top pvp armor you have ONE LINEAR way of doing it, pvp in arenas till you got the points or w.e |

honestly camisado, do research before you make a post like this
sandbox is something where you can do things that developers didnt really intend on people doing, knew they could do them, but was not really intended (e.g in UO and swg you can put a house or object just about anywhere in the world, you can trap people inside walls or objects if done right). another thing you can do in sandbox is have a completely unique character build both SWG and UO had this. usually a skill based system, in UO you could be a mage, but at the same time a melee fighter or an archer, perhaps a creature tamer, even someone who chops wood for a living, you could go out and find a sheep and then take its wool, make it into yarn, make the yarn into a peice of cloth, make the peices of cloth into clothing or sell them for profit. in SWG you could be a rifleman, then be a teras kasi martial artist, you could take a dab in the medic line so you can heal yourself, maybe get some fencer for defenses or master fencer and be a one handed fighter, you could go as far as being a ranger, making traps, taming animals, setting up camps for fellow players, etc etc. lastly, the one thing i consider sandbox but i dont believe is officially so is FFA PvP and a full loot system. something i would expect in the settings of games (fantasy or sci-fi), if i killed someone and they had something of value, be it gold, credits, a blaster rifle, a sword, suit of armor, or otherwise i'd take it from them as if it was real life...i guess like real life, except i wouldnt get a blaster rifle, id prolly get their wallet, maybe jewlery lol.
anyways, i hope this helps out before you make such a post again. |

yeah, the meters (released and development) are both broken
want an example? tabula rasa is on the top in released, so is CoX, CoX has been for a long long time, the game isnt THAT good, LoTRO isnt too good either, that's like number one,eve online is the only game on the top released that belongs there
as for the hype, it is simply how many people are like "OMG THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!!11!111ONE ONE I R TEH 1337!!!!!!!!!" the games doesnt need hype to be good, yes, the game has taken forever to come out, delayed too many times, but i believe when it finally comes out the game is going to be one of the best MMOs out there, granted, it wont have WoW sub numbers because people that play WoW are mostly carebears and the idea of full loot and FFA pvp scares the living crap out of them, they are also, more then likely, too dumb to understand a skill based system instead of a level BS nonsense. |

this is more then likely, innovation in MMORPGs has been really dumbed down (e.g stargate worlds had promised a full on new, exciting combat system....it's ranged auto attack except it is hard to get hit if you get behind cover....which isnt hard to do. think company of heroes, kinda).
because of this, im definitely looking forward to jumpgate evolution, a twitch based space combat game hasnt been done since the original jumpgate or star wars galaxies JTL (which is kinda...yeah.....)
also, darkfall is going for the older type MMO system, FFA pvp, full loot, skill based (UO basically, the devs have admitted they hope to achieve the greatness of UO)
but yeah, so many people think they can beat WoW because they have the same game but with some new, useless feature, but the truth is, WoW will just get that with the next patch and people already have their max levels and teir 50213943942934 gear, why would they just drop it? |

Why has Jumpgate Evolution suddenly taken a dive in the hype?

I was under the impression that they were past heavy development. The game was initially scheduled for late 08 but last mention was early 09, and they just announced in the forums that they were in Alpha. even so, it is a very challenging task to test an MMORPG to get all the bugs out and they are definitely still developing, i'd say they have about 1/2 of the game done (think of it like the equivalent levels 1-50 in wow or w.e...the equivalent of levels 51-70 are still in development plus features such as an economy that works, player tools, etc.) |
