Hey guys. so i've seen this game before but nothing really caught me eye until i just recently looked a bit more into it. so i have a couple questions..

What is the game population like? What games do you think you can compare it to?

Are the sides imbalanced? (i.e more allies then axis or vice versa)

How realistic is this game? Is it actual planning out offensives/defensives take time, etc or is it more of a Counter Strike/CoD deal where you run in, kill as much as you can and then respawn and run right back in. Is there a realistic amount of things like armor and aircraft? Do bullets actually hurt/kill and not take 30 shots to kill someone?

How balanced is the gameplay? Are infantry automatically screwed if a tank rolls up on them?

I very much like realism, i currently play Arma 2 quite a bit but am looking for a bit of the World War 2 era as well.

Last question, How friendly/helpful is the game's population, i read around that the game has a pretty steep learning curve which im willing to deal with but it would be cool to join a nice unit that can help me get into the game, show me the ropes, etc.

Thanks for any help given,

regards.

Greets,

So im probably search impaired but im looking for other people's opinions. Im looking for a MMO that is pretty easy to get into. isnt a big ass grind i dont want to spend forever and a day getting to max level and twice that time getting decent gear, has a decent amount of focus on PVP and in general is just fun to play. im not to into WoW but i might check that out when that new expansion comes out if i havent gotten into something else.

ive played EVE, ive played Darkfall, Ive played UO. i given just about everything a try. anyways, tell me your opinions

go on...

So after a stint in darkfall ive been thinking about coming back to EvE online. can anyone tell me what has changed (the good and the bad) since the faction warfare patch came out.

also, if i come back im interested in a pirate corp, so if you are in one dont hesitate advertise

lastly, are there any returning player trial sort of deals, i had one in my email not to long ago but the offer expired i guess =/

im expecting a 2010 release. bioware takes their time with games to make them good. so if bioware screws this up i would be very surprised

He went on to tell me about some of the rewards that they have planned. They seem to have taken a page out of Xbox’s book with statistics and medals and awards, following in the footsteps of other MMOs like WoW, LotRO and others that have incorporated alternate achievement paths into their games.

sorry, but play JGC, came out 2001 (before xbox live, before WoW, before LOTRO, awards have been in there :) they are called medals. you can get them doing anything from docking to defeated a huge swarm of conflux, and then some.

yeah these answers are pretty much correct. i believe the pre-orders will also get priority if there were to be too many order and some people had to wait for the server to be upgraded, optimized, w.e.

the open beta is indeed open, i dont believe there will be an nda and there will be a lot of people allowed in, however if everyone were to be given the chance to download and start playing the game on the 22nd there could (potentially) be 500 thousand or more people. 300k just from the forums, take away a few thousand for inactives, but then add in a lot from people who just read "darkfall open beta click here" or w.e and are just curious as to what the game is like

I don't necessarily dislike the idea of Permadeath, but I am not whole heartedly for it.
My manner of thinking on this subject is pretty clear - the punishment must fit the crime.  For instance, permadeath would be entirely acceptable in my mind if the character in question belongs to a certain Alpha Class.  An example of this would be something along the lines of the original Jedi in SWG.
The timeline of SWG runs the gamut, but for the first few months of Jedi esitisting in the game, but for the purpose of this example, I'm speaking of before the Aurillian Village.  They were the bane of every players' existence in PvP, and could solo even the unsoloable in PvE.  However, this wasn't exactly always the case.
When you first started out as a Jedi, you were but a Padawan, and you were indeed quite killable.  I would probably go so far as to say you weren't anymore powerful than the average starting character.  Why?  Because the skills simply were not there.  It wasn't until you hit Knighthood that you became the proverbial force to be reckoned with (but really, it all depended on your build, but nevermind that.)
What I'm saying is, that Jedi Knights (originally) were the Alpha Class of the game.  No one will argue this who remembers.  They took an army of players to take down, and then they could easily run away with enough speed to outrun even the fastest of vehicles.
But all of this also brings in the notion of whether or not Alpha Classes are appropriate for a game.
Personally, I would say yes to both, but only yes to one, if the other exists.  What I'm saying is, I would say that Alpha Classes are indeed appropriate for an MMO, but only if they are under the rules of permadeath.
Why?  Because it gives players the only challenge they really can't get in an MMO.  The first challenge is to get the Alpha Class.  The second challenge is to keep it alive for as long as possible.

indeed, was it not 3 deaths or something like that and you would loose your jedi?...they took out that, of course, because people kept whining

i think anarchy online might go down soon (perhaps in an attempt from funcom to save AoC)...EQ might go down, SWG might go down, matrix maybe. planetside is going to die pretty soon. SOE will want a bailout lawl

the mid december bet agot delayed when the release got delayed geese is that so ahrd ot firgure out
stress test WILL be done during open beta but sof ar even witht hem adding people there bene no stbaility issue only a few bugs that are minor and soem gameplayt weaking needed but  0 stability issues. cant oyu guysa open oyur minds alil and think hey maybe they actully did somethign right unlike this big name mmo companies pshh ><

When will this supposed open beta start? Its 17 days till release and still no open beta. No stress test either.
You see 0 Stability issues with a couple of hundred of people, maybe a couple of thousand. But thats what stress test is for, to test stability with tens and hundreds of thousands of  people. That does not worry you?

to test a game at launch with tenS or hundredS of thousands of people is just plain stupid. their server are designed to have a max of 25000 people each, but 10000 at optimal performance...that is a lot better then WoW servers and i believe around what the eve online server was like at launch (however EVE now supports over 30000 players at a time)...it is expected that there will be around 3 or so servers at launch (on europe mainland, maybe 1 in the UK) and then 3 in the US (west, mid, east)

i believe mortal is just gonna be darkfall with better graphics

now, darkfall is made by an independant developer. mostly comprised gamers who wants a good game (based on the original ultima) i believe. and i think mortal's dev team is mostly for people who help develop ultima, wanting to remake ultima...just better overall.

does mortal online look like it would be a good game? yeah, but cant really tell much atm. probably not vaporware but i doubt they will release next year...

until then we'll have darkfall, same basic game, not as good graphics, but i would rather have crappy graphics and a fun game then graphics that give me a seizure every time i decide to swing my sword with all the bloom and glowy crap people are putting into games and calling them "good" or "realistic"...im sorry but the last time i went outside of my super secret underground gaming machine bunker nothing was glowing like the sun...except for the sun of course.

now all the people that are saying "no i wont play darkfall now because mortal online is coming out next summer"...really? so you wait 7 years for a game to be released and when the same basic game that is shinier is (apparently) going to be released in over 6 months from now you arent going to play darkfall simply because the graphics "suck" when i find they are quite good and i'd rather have some practice in the FFA/Full Loot environment for 2 or so years before mortal is actually released

sorry, just a little pissed off that people want shinier graphics when they dont even know what the gameplay is going to be like (for sure). if mortal delivers what is promised it might actually be a good game, but until we are a good way into closed beta and near open beta for it i wouldn't trust their (summer 2009) release date for a penny...even though my pretty US penny is slowly but surely depreciating in value.

Right now just before the inevitable release of this game is where I fully expect Darkfall to be at it's highest success.  Websites across the internet are full of hype, noise, bickering, and questions about this game which makes lot of promises not yet seen in a 3D mmo.  We have to go all the way back to the years when the Darktide server of Asherons Call and to the 2D Ultima Online before Trammel was ever added to see the sortof game play that Darkfall promises.
And now, I fully expect that Darkfall is close to its highest peak in its long history.  Hype.  If there is such a thing as 'The Great White Hype", then Darkfall is certainly "The Great Dark Hype".
And don't get angry about my predictions here.  They are honest and sincere.  I DO think that once Darkfall is released to the public, that it will fail miserably and the dropoff of its success from all of its years of hype will be a very sharp decline right after it does release.
A lot of you sit on the forums for months, even years yapping on and on and on about how great this game will be and how it will finally be the holy grail of mmo games to everyone who has desired a more challenging online experience.  So, what's wrong with me making this prediction now.. one that I fully believe will happen.
Every mmo game with even a fraction of this much hype and anticipation over the past seven years that was made by such a small unheard of group of developers has failed.  And it seems that the more attention that it got, the more hype it had, the harder it failed and the more it just plain out "sucked".
With Darkfall, this long into its development, and supposedly this close to it's launch, there is simply way too many unanswered questions by anyone that isn't sitting behind the doors of the Aventurine office seeing exactly what the Aventurine people want them to see.  Nobody else has seen the game outside of those offices, and certainly  nobody from an established and reputable position has seen anything about this game.  Unless ofcourse you want to include all the hype and promises.  There is way too much hype and promises and simply not nearly enough concrete truth about this game so close to its promised launch.
Do I think Darkfall will launch?  Yep, probably.  When?  I'd sure hope it does launch soon.  This hype machine has gone on way too long already.  It's more then time this game either delivers or dies.  I think we can figure where I stand on where I think this game will land.  I honestly believe that once this game is launched to the public, it will quickly become one of the most hyped up video game failures to EVER be launched.  It will become the butt of all video game jokes in the mmo community for years to come.  You fans want my reasons?  My reasons are simply the lack of real reasons to believe in this game.
The fall of Darkfall is coming...

there is one thing that you missed. as of late, most games that have been over hyped were just wow clones...so all the people from wow that wanted something a little different checked out said over hyped game (AoC, Warhammer, Tabula Rasa, etc)and realized they were just playing the same game with a difference, they didnt have their teir 234896 epic armor bs nonsense, so they went back.

Good question right?
I mean surely they would want an editor or two from the largest MMORPG site on the net to be involved in their beta. No?
They also did not hold a Beta give away here even if it was for 50 logins.
Something as SIMPLE as that would give them so much credibility. But again.. for some STRANGE reason..  it can't be done. Every other game does it..
You be the judge.
Me? I think they're full of shit and the Beta consists of their parents and Brannoc the dev snuggler.

1. CLOSED beta

2. NDA

currently it is supposed to be ready for release in december, that would mean it will actually release in december or maybe january because they need to get it all distributed, but this is one of those games that i would spend the week downloading if needed lol

and beta is supposed to get bigger on monday...i expect wednesday because someone will go wrong prolly.

lol except for the people that complained about their product :)

although this is nice, if there werent highly detailed enviroments, shadows, lighting, etc would you still play it?

i would.

just trying to make a point, graphics dont mean a damn thing it's all about gameplay!..as long as it is 3d lol.

That is all.[/b][/quote]

i believe this is sufficient.

As a result, unlike Star Wars Galaxies, players in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be able to begin the game as a full-fledged Jedi or Sith.

stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid

it is just gonna be SWG again, glow bats everywhere.

i dunno about everyone else but i would rather work to become a jedi rather then just click a button and BAM im a jedi...so fracking pointless>_<

... vapor trolls?
I recently read something on forumfall about how all the so-called vaporware trolls have all converted to fledgling fanboys or have left altogether.
If this is true, why is it?
The open or playtest beta hasn't actually started yet, has it?
They had a (are having?) "clan beta" too. Why didn't it's introduction kill the "vaporware trolls" then too?
Nobody knows anyone who's actually played the game, do they?
They haven't actually taken pre-orders, have they?
They don't actually have a (US) publisher, do they?
From where I sit, I don't see how this is actually much farther along than it was this time 4 years ago.
If you read some of my previous posts, you'll see that I'm really looking forward to Darkfall so I'm not trolling - mearly asking a few questions as to the apparent community shift.
EDIT: Since the U.S. is all that matters.

people have actually played the game in Athens. there is a 40 minute video of it i believe.

as for a publisher, they could just a digital release if they cant find someone to release it via cd/dvd
