[POLL] No Holds Bar Mondays - Star Trek Online vs EVE Online
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/22/10 8:33:51 AM
Are these games in any way comparable? |
|

I think this game is popular. It seems very busy most of the time. |
|

i can't get beyond the terrible movement mechanism. especially in tight areas. how you supposed to turn around without falling? it's very frustrating. |

I don't think it's down to the stores. When Eve was re-released in box form last year all the shops in the UK stocked it. Most of the time I think it's down to game publishers. |

Myst Online: Uru Live is back from the dead...

The patcher is working for me now. Seems pretty quick too. Looking forward to trying it out. |

The one aspect I hope that doesn't catch on is timebased levelling. That does spoil Eve for me a bit, especially as I wasn't in it from the beginning. |

Do online games along the lines of FF7 exist? (Turn-based RPG Strategy/Tactics)

Atlantica is one of the most unique MMOs around. And not just in its combat. |

Just checking, has anyone managed to run the patcher yet? |

The best potential for a successful MMO is the on Iphone/Ipod?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/11/10 8:12:36 AM
I hope it happens. There have been a few attempts. Outer Empires tried to be an EVE for iphone but it's pretty shabby really. Think it's almost a one man effort though. Need an established company to have a go. There are a number of good RPGs for the iphone. I like the idea of carrying an MMO around in my pocket. |

Myst Online: Uru Live is back from the dead...

Re: my post above. Actually, the game servers being down has nothing to do with downloading the client. It is installing, i'm just getting 7 days estimated time to patch :-/ |

Why isn't "Lord of the Rings Online" more popular?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/09/09 7:53:00 AM
People say LotRO numbers are quite good, but with its heritage you'd think it would have done much better. Last time I looked it wasn't doing much better than Everquest 2, which people are always saying is dying. And I'm not surprised it has underachieved. LotRO has the most boring gameplay of any MMO I've played. And it brings nothing new to the table. It looks nice and that's it. |

I'm all for more variety in MMOs, non-combat as well as combat, but I think this game is going to flop. |

Yep, I got it through steam too, and I'm pleased with the t-shirt. It has long-term use. As for lag, I'm in England and I have had performance issues. Especially in Oilville, which is just crazy most of the time - small, compact and extremely busy! I'm not sure it has anything to do with being in Europe or not. My performance has improved since I upgraded my ram, although it still crashed in Oilville once. I no longer get the chuntering pute everytime I enter a town now, though. Basically, I think your computer probably has more bearing on performance than location. |

I made some negative comments about Fallen Earth after playing it briefly in Beta. Well, I decided to give the game a proper try anyway, as the regular character wipes prevent me getting properly involved at beta stage. I've been playing for about two and a half weeks and I'm here to stay. Of my previous issues with it only the graphics still concern me, but I've even got used to them and they have improved since beta I think. My performance improved considerably when I upgraded my ram from 2 to 4 gigs. As for the gameplay, it's deep and rewarding as many other players have said. So, my apologies and congratulations to Icarus, you did deliver a great MMO after all! |

That's what I'm hoping. I am at this moment clearing out my hard drive and using disc clean-up, although I have more than enough memory. My processor speed is above minimum required to, but my video card is only 256. I suspect that is my problem. |

There you go. It is not lag, it is your specs struggling to handle all the load (lots of swapping due to textures/meshes being loaded to the relatively small VGA RAM). 98% of people who complain about "lag" have this experience.
Yes, and I also pointed out that the game should be playable for me wherever I am if I have the required specs. I've no doubt the game performs better on your machine but it doesn't mean the game isn't at fault when it becomes a slideshow on mine and that of other players with the required specs. |

It's weird about the lag. When it comes up in chat some people will say they experience no lag at all and some say it's unplayable. I'm nearer the latter when in towns. My specs are pretty much minimum required, though, so it could be that. Thing is, I would expect it to be playable wherever I am if I have the minimum requirements. Hopefully they're working on this. And the texturing. They are reservations I still have about FE, although I'm doing my usual turnaround on an MMO and deciding it's a good game after all. I did it with AO, Everquest 2 and Eve and just about any other MMO I ended up liking. So ignore my initial points about new games ;) |

Have they improved it a lot since the end of CB? Whenever I entered a town I got terrible lag. It was hardly playable. I'm in Europe, but I've played on US servers in other games without problems. |
