Thanks for the tip. I'm just heading up to Sector 2.

People say LotRO numbers are quite good, but with its heritage you'd think it would have done much better. Last time I looked it wasn't doing much better than Everquest 2, which people are always saying is dying. And I'm not surprised it has underachieved. LotRO has the most boring gameplay of any MMO I've played. And it brings nothing new to the table. It looks nice and that's it.

I'm all for more variety in MMOs, non-combat as well as combat, but I think this game is going to flop.

Yep, I got it through steam too, and I'm pleased with the t-shirt. It has long-term use.

As for lag, I'm in England and I have had performance issues. Especially in Oilville, which is just crazy most of the time - small, compact and extremely busy! I'm not sure it has anything to do with being in Europe or not. My performance has improved since I upgraded my ram, although it still crashed in Oilville once. I no longer get the chuntering pute everytime I enter a town now, though. Basically, I think your computer probably has more bearing on performance than location.

I made some negative comments about Fallen Earth after playing it briefly in Beta. Well, I decided to give the game a proper try anyway, as the regular character wipes prevent me getting properly involved at beta stage. I've been playing for about two and a half weeks and I'm here to stay. Of my previous issues with it only the graphics still concern me, but I've even got used to them and they have improved since beta I think. My performance improved considerably when I upgraded my ram from 2 to 4 gigs. As for the gameplay, it's deep and rewarding as many other players have said. So, my apologies and congratulations to Icarus, you did deliver a great MMO after all!

I think its due to lack of refinement. They will no doubt continue to optimise the textures etc, the more grphx memory you have on your card the better your overal performace will be. This is always be the case with unoptimised games.

That's what I'm hoping. I am at this moment clearing out my hard drive and using disc clean-up, although I have more than enough memory. My processor speed is above minimum required to, but my video card is only 256. I suspect that is my problem.

only one word about the lag IMO there are to many NPC in the game and all that make the server load quite big  just look your upload/download when you in a city sometimes the spike go to 10kb/s ofc 10/kb/s is not much but for a mmo that are allot of things that the server tell your client to load

It's weird about the lag. When it comes up in chat some people will say they experience no lag at all and some say it's unplayable. I'm nearer the latter when in towns. My specs are pretty much minimum required, though, so it could be that. Thing is, I would expect it to be playable wherever I am if I have the minimum requirements. Hopefully they're working on this. And the texturing. They are reservations I still have about FE, although I'm doing my usual turnaround on an MMO and deciding it's a good game after all. I did it with AO, Everquest 2 and Eve and just about any other MMO I ended up liking. So ignore my initial points about new games ;)

There you go. It is not lag, it is your specs struggling to handle all the load (lots of swapping due to textures/meshes being loaded to the relatively small VGA RAM).

98% of people who complain about "lag" have this experience.

Yes, and I also pointed out that the game should be playable for me wherever I am if I have the required specs. I've no doubt the game performs better on your machine but it doesn't mean the game isn't at fault when it becomes a slideshow on mine and that of other players with the required specs.

Despite the game not being perfect (although I have to say, technically it's quite excellent for a recently launched game, I had no lag last night at all, had constant 25+ FPS in town and 50+ outside, with all settings on max, and only 1 disconnection in 2 hours....),

Have they improved it a lot since the end of CB? Whenever I entered a town I got terrible lag. It was hardly playable. I'm in Europe, but I've played on US servers in other games without problems.

Yeah saying it's sandbox while talking about quest chains.... is a pretty big contradiction

By your definition, EVE is not sandbox either. Eve has missions and mission chains.

Yes but you can avoid them completely. I play a miner partly for this reason, to avoid 'quests'. To me it seems far less contrived. Ore I mine I sell to other players or use to make things for other players. I suppose the question is can you build a crafting character in FE the way you can in Eve? Do nothing but craft/harvest and not be a second-class citizen.

[1]western games attacks and weapons are often boring ass hell,

[2]its like comics, westerners are stuck in the "superhero" genre, while manga is super diverse and for everyone.. theres no way in hell marvel could come up with naruto or deathnote..

2a. Gotta look around more. While super heroes are pominante, there is much more out there now-a-days.

He's right about mainstream Western comics being stuck in the superhero rut though. The interesting stuff is often indie, or as in the case of Vertigo, an imprint of a larger company. And maybe that applies to MMOs too. The western indie developers will be the innovators.

Clunky and awkward.

Well, I'm 43 and I think graphics are very important to the immersion factor of an MMO. And the texturing is so bad in FE you can't ignore it. The production generally is not of a high enough quality for people to pay a monthly sub. It has F2P written all over it.

The starter area on the Cannith server is heaving atm! Going ftp has certainly had an impact.

Meh, it is an Indie game. It's what I expected, not as much polish as one would like. The OP shouldn't really be surprised by this. It's not a AAA title.

I don't think an Indie game has to, by definition, be this shoddy. People are being too kind to FE.

Darkfall's community is most likely the worst one of any MMO, and ryzom's most likely the best. Ryzom dosen't really have much pvp, its more of a thing to do for fun or when your bored while darkfall revolves around pvp. Mortal online which is also pvp focused and a sandbox is in beta right now too, so might check that out too. My personal opinion would be to go with ryzom if your wondering.

Is the Ryzom population healthy right now?

Ryzom is the deadest game i've played as far as population goes. there are also a lot of issues that don't seem to have been addressed since launch. it has potential, but it's never lived up to it, and hardly anyone plays. as for df, i've never tried, nor ever want to try, it.

i played it towards the end of cb and found it almost unplayable in towns. performance was as bad as the graphics.

Ouh graphics aren't improved i know that for one:P I hate the graphics so much , i love the content  , backstory , quests , everything but graphics destroy the gameplay/animations everything i wish they changed them;P

Graphics do not make a game though, besides graphics are not that bad, they are comparable to most MMO's just not the latest and greatest.

Graphics might not make a game but they can break it. Who wants to spend hours a day exploring a world with terrible graphics? They just aren't acceptable for 2009. Not that graphics are FE's only problem. I'm amazed at how kind people are being to this game. I can only think it's because it's by an indie company and people want to like it because of the theme.

So it can't have between 50k and 300k? Not a great poll really.

Where can i buy Champions online "Digital VErison" And EU version.. ?

And Is the game lvl based or skill based ?

I'm sure there was a digital download option on the UK retailers page on the CO website yesterday. Not there now. I remember being annoyed because, as usual, it cost more than the boxed version from Amazon.
