No perviously the EU players could only access the EU servers and the US the US, now everybody gets access to everybody.

So no merger just greater access to a larger numbers of servers for everybody (although the logical assumption is that eventually they'll drop a few servers later on as people begin to bunch up on a select few servers)

anyway i am off to see if they sell crossbows at Asda

ROFL, well i guess if i had been born some 15 years later my forum name would have been iScarfe .. hope that clarifies

Like all true and pure Englishmen i have moved to the colonies and have never been happier, except when i read posts from "real Englishmen" back "home"

27000 players online at one time.  Isn't that about the record number of concurrent players Eve online has?

Basically this game has the ability to have about as many concurrent players as Eve Online but in a much smaller Earth based fantasy world as opposed to wide open space.  While we will see the addition of new continents having 27k people in Nave alone would be awesome.

No, Eve reached over 55k concurrent players recently

Since I tried every other MMO (Literally spoken) I am going to try out EVE. I will first of all, try the trial. I'm almost certain I will love it!

This does worry me, EVE is for all it's size and self-hype a niche indie game at it's heart. Your not going to be able to download the client and pick up the controls in the first 3 seconds like i have done with so many other games over the last 2 years.

Although CCP have done a lot of work on the new player experience it's still the steepest learning curve out there in the mmo market aided and abetted by the simply mindboggling and bewildering array of choice available to a player from the very second they login for the first time.

Am i trying to put you off the game? Yes, a little bit, your enthuisasm is setting you up for a fall, a fall that many many new players take when they first try EVE. Your either gonna love this gate or absolutly hate it, there is seemingly no middle ground.

But there will come a point in those first 2 weeks of the trail where you'll go "I have no idea what i'm doing, how i'm doing it or even why. I'm not even sure i'm enjoying it." If you work throught the steepest point of the learning curve you have a much better chance of survivng and enjoying the game.

As far as the older players dominating, don't worry were all too busy pouring over our spreadsheets and managing our corps to actually 'play' the game. :)

You'll probably have copyright problems with the name. Bushido is an old pnp game still sold by Fantasy Games Unlimited. You'll probably want to come up with a different name just to be safe ... btw Land of the Rising Sun is also taken.

1) No mission grind unless you want to.

2) Never too late

3) Yes it happens, check the boards carefully and you'll find people and corps set up for that and THEN create your toon, not the other way around i would suggest.

4) EDIT: (oops should read the post before replying to it :( ) Yes talk to other pirates so get a good idea of the direction you want to steer your toon in, (but really there are no bad choices in skill learning), as for the move to 0.0 i dunno, never lived there, never tried to live there ... have only passed through on occasion.

5) Not sure when you last tried Eve but they had a decent graphics update within the last year, try again is all i can suggest.

6) Don;t forget D2D has EVE for $5 at the mo as part of it's 5th birthday promotion.

Anonymity + Internet = 733t rage

The lack of consequences one has on the internet is such a potent drug that it makes many many people overdose just for the novelty of the experience

Either that or there just Wankers

EVE space + SWG Pre-NGE planet = Win!!!!!!

+5 sword of sleighing, nuff said :-)

I like that. My playstyle always involves in specializing in ecenomy. I'm mostly interested in currency. Not so much in PvP, but i have the patience to deal with it anyway.

The great joy of EVE is that there is more than one sort of PvP, the economy is completely player driven and therefore can be player manipulated, hence economic PvP is, in a limited respect, a realistic playstyle. Just don't mention it to the pew pew PvP'ers as they tend to get rather heated about the subject ;-)

The folks saying that an exstablished IP makes for an inferior game have a good point.

Problem is people develop exisiting IP's for several reasons, and most of those reasons are just excuses to make poor games. But really IP's are aquired for one of 2 main reasons, in general.

1) Establish audience .... why have a good game when there's gonna be 100's of thousands of people already salivaing to play. Although there are exceptions to this rule let me just say D&D, LotrO, SWG

2) Fanboi Dev's ... these tend to be better games, but even so one persons memories of an IP arn't the same as other peoples, i mean look at AoC.

There are other lesser reasons for buying into an exisiting IP, but what the original IP is makes a difference. I mean a movie IP is very different from a PnP IP. Each type of IP come with their own set of 'cannon lore' be it how the game should work, or how the world should look like.

But in general i agree, taking an established IP and making it into a game generally (65.32% of the time for you statisticians) results in a poor game.

A chat system

everything else is optional depending on the type of game.

Oh hell i can do without a chat system, yeah i know it's covenient and people will just set up voip servers etc but i'd like to see a proximity based communication system.

No more listening to noobs discussing how 733t they are, lonely mouth breathers proclaiming their need for dps or heals, some guy pretending to be a girl flirting with the entire zone in a way that would make a hooker blush .... i can do without that.

Guess what you wanna meet someone, go to a towna and pay an npc to deliver a letter to them, with a time and a place ... go their and then endlessly discuss your mini/maxi tactics.

Wanna team up, go to the town center and shout and if i don;t want to listen to you i just leave town.

Maybe i'm comming off a tad grumpy ....... good

Aggro based on costume, come on we all know the Orcs would go for the nerdy kids first.

LOL

Women in skimpy outfits are captured, not killed when the party wipes (or if beaten while soloing). They are locked up and can be rescued by others. The downside is if running from an enemy, they ALWAYS break a heel and fall, requiring help to get up.

This reminds me of a thread in the Warcaft News Group a few years ago. It was about sexism in RPGs. I suggested that women characters would have to visit every merchant/vendor in a town upon arrival. Someone else cleverly suggested that male characters could not ask guards for directions.

I dunno it's just the thought of tanks in pink platemail and feather boa's ...... that appeals to me ...... erm

@weblinkz2002

Ryzom's seasonality actually went further than just graphics, certain crafting resources are only available at 'certain times of the year', i liked this feature alot i must admit

Well when you pay for life to get 1-2 months worth of content I could see some people unleashing hell on the forums.  I can't wait to see what they look like in about 30-45 days.

In 30-45 days the only people on the forums will be the whiners and the devs

All the people i have talked to since the patch have been indifferent about it, and all the people in the guild i'm in, plus ALOT of people i have talked to since OB have already abandoned the forums in dispair due to the excessive amounts of trolls, whiners and haters.

I can't see this trend reversing or even slowing down in the next month or so.

No

Have a drink in my name IF it happens. "Damn him, Doubter was right!"

Sure

But then again that's my point you are claiming it's your opinion but your consistantly portraying it as a fact.

It won't all be junk. When they start selling xp items, and damage buffs, and respecs, will you keep playing?

Foul, 10 yd penalty, stating opinion as fact

You have exactly as much proof they will sell those items as you do that they won't.

I understand your a glass half full kinda guy, but your refusal to even acknowledge  the remaining half of the glass is starting to go beyond reasonablness and into requiring medical intervention.

I'm all for forcefully presenting your argument, but when you put your fingers in your ears and hum when anyone else says anything it kinda damages your position.

i tried playing about a year ago...I felt totally lost.

only gave it two weeks but it seemed so diff from any other mmo i've played (DAoC, SWG, WOW, Vanguard, TR, War,) that i really had no idea how to do much more than fly around and kill a few like level things. tried to join up with a guild or whatever its called in EVE and they were zero help even tho they're were about 20-30 people online

Yeah it's always been a kinda standing joke that EVE dosn't have a steep learning curve it's more of an overhang .... but they have altered the new player experience considerably since then. Sadly i havn't had the money to go back and try it out.

As for corportations in EVE, there just like another other games guilds, for every good one you'll fine 20 average/crap guilds. So as with any other game either suck em and see or go to the forums and see who's getting the noobie love.

"No" would be more accurate however.

Getting your arse kicked will have much less to do with "being a noob" and more to do with "that's how the game works"
