microtransactions don't belong in a game of this magnitude. How hard is it to come up with 15 bucks a month. Even a 10 year old can do that. Come on bioware, don't spend all of this time making a great game then ruin it with shady microtransactions.

Allow me to try and put it into terms you would understand.  Let's say you went to your crack dealer to get some crack.  You love this crack; it's the best crack you've ever had (though truth be told, you'd never tried any other crack, so you don't really know the difference in crack - this guy cuts it big-time, and you're actually getting ripped off, but who cares, it's crack!).  Except, every time you go to leave the crackhouse, he kicks you in the junk right after you pay him.  He doesn't say thanks for shopping here, he doesn't stop cutting his crack, he doesn't hire more "undocumented workers" to better produce the crack - he just hauls off on your nuts after he takes your cash.  Do you suppose, eventually, you would stop and think... "Why do I put up with this kind of abuse?  There must be other places from which to purchase my crack.  I can't imagine ALL of them would take my money and follow it up with a side-kick to the testicles." See, those who continue to play SOE games for an extended period of time don't typically have this period of inner reflection.  They continue to buy bad crack at premium prices, and thank the dealer for the massive boot to the groin they get after the credit card clears.  To them, the whole process is fun.  Now psychologically speaking, this is typically the result of low self-esteem or deep-seated feelings of inadequacy.  Other times, it is simply because some people really do not care about the changes made - as long as the game exists, they will play it.  But for those who are vocal and involved, this doesn't seem to apply.  The exchanges with development typically go something like this:Players: We want this system fixed!Devs: Sure, we'll get on it.  In the meantime, how about Ewok pancakes?Players: Yay!  Iconic pancakes! *munch munch*And the system goes untouched, often for years.  Bottom line, what you refer to as vets "rubbing there (sic) little crybaby asses", I refer to as "people who stop buying bad crack".  Or at the least, "people who don't like to get kicked in the nards".

Tee Hee!

Wow this is exactly how I felt. Except I couldn't find another crack dealer so I switched to Black Tar Heroin. Black Tar Heroin stands for Black Tar Heroin...

hmmm I think your wrong about the subscriptions going down. I see new people every day logging in. I hate to say it guys but this game is a success, its not going anywhere.  they keep making money off of it.

Just because you hate it and quit along with the other 200k people that did doesn't make it a failure.

I can say with out a doubt Sony and Lucas arts would have droped this like a bad date if it was failing. how long ago did the NGE patch drop? how long has it been going? 6 years? and still going? think about it......

I think SWG is doing fine too, but you have to be a little more understanding of the people who were not able to recover after the NGE.

I went through a similar experience with UO many years ago when the game moved to loot based items from crafter based, I left the game and have not been able to pick it up since, despite returning on a veteran trial it just wasn't the game I remembered.

The NGE was the most traumatic experience in gamer history that I can think of, I certainly don't blame anyone for still harbouring a grudge.  I don't think I ever got over it myself, the anger I had from that day still drives me on to make sure it never happens again.

Badger your obviously the voice of reason. I agree with every post you make. and again your right. I like you dude yur always positive

Imagine that!

Why would Bioware come out with an Eve styled game? That's crazy talk. "Um... I want the new Bungie game to be like Hello Kitty Island" wtf?

I have invested too much in swg to talk further about that pile here...

SW:TOR will be a great game if you remember:

  • This game is vastly resource intensive (time money talent etc) so it will appeal to the majority. I doubt the complexity of swg or eq2 will be there. Not WoW but I am sure they took notes of what Blizzard did right and wrong.
  • Don't compare this to swg! It is completely different.
  • As much as we would all like it released now, it will take a while and will have bugs when it comes out.
  • People will complain no matter what Bioware does so try it for yourself.

your reading has increased to level 2!

This all makes me laugh (the lol irl kind). Thank you for the entertainment!

For f'n years, yes years, these forums have been overflowing with posts of swg sucks then some fanboy or girl (but most likely a guy right?) defends against the mob of swg haters. I swear this crap never changes.

Facts and General Observations:

* SWG sucks! It has always sucked. I played since beta and it sucked then. But it was Star Wars so we let it slide. There has never been a time when this game was not broken. Composite armor on everyone with doc buffs, overpowered medics, broken quests for years, my house buried underground etc. etc. etc. etc.

* SWG is milking you for all the money they can! Zombies? Did I hear that correctly? Whatever I can't even wrap my brains around that.

* Fanboys don't need to defend this game. If you like it cool, I just don't see why some people can't handle why others play it and I can't understand why those who do play feel they must justify it.

* I have been SWG free for a year now and I am happy. It hurt to leave because I was dumb to stick around for that long and I wanted something for that time and money spent. But friends are gone, money is in Smed's new pool and now we have a new Star Wars game to look forward to so whatever.

* I think as long as SWG lives, there will be those to bash it, those to defend it and people like myself who just find it all extremely entertaining.

SWG thank you for entertaining me only after I stopped paying!

This thread is a waste of time.  The person who started it is basically just theorycrafting some unknown fear about a game that isn't even in beta yet.  They even got their "facts" about Guild Wars wrong (i.e. it doesn't allow any class to do anything, it just permits multi-classing, which is a totally different concept).

I mean, anyone who actually says that every class build in WOW actually plays the same either hasn't played WOW, or has some grudge against the game and is misreporting the facts for their own benefit.

If any of you took the OP seriously, just stop and go read anything else.  There is truly nothing to see here.

I just don't get how some people (OP) can bitch about something that isn't final, and we, the future players, know little about. I swear these forums expose me to far too many cry babies. I'm going to go read a book.

I love what I have heard so far and have been looking forward to this game since um, i read the Bioware press release on March 13th 2006 and hoped it could be a Star Wars mmo.

I have to laugh a bit when I hear that "X" game has all d-bags and they have an immature player base. When will people realize that the d-bags will be in SW:TOR and every other game that has mass appeal. It is because 1/4 of the population is retarded. I have proof ( just read these or any game forums for 45 seconds)

Yes I said it!

Either one is fine. I would wait until close to release date before getting a new card if you can. They leap frog over themselves all the time and there will be better ones out at the end of the year and cheaper prices for the current models. g/l

No they aren't. Baseball player who use drugs seriously tisk their health, and risk to die as well. You dont risk to die buying currencies.

Also, drugs are illegal, buying gold is legal but for the EULA, wich is not a law but a contract.

I have to agree here. Steriods give you an unfair advantage just like farming. I think that one of the differences is people who buy gold do it because they enjoy a game and their real time is more valuable than real money. Steroid users are similar to gold buyers but not really. Many pro baseball players are given the steroids for free. So what if you were given lots of gold for free that gave you an unfair advantage, is that still unfair?

Great job OP! I really agree with this and hope Bioware can deliver on most if not all of these concepts.

Yeah well I just logged in too. I was vet since beta to 2007. I just tried the trial on eclipse um... two days ago at 7pm pst and found the following:

Mos Eisley Cantina - 4 people

Theed Starport - one guy afk

Bestine - two people

Seeing the trend?

I wanted to have fun but graphics are so outdated after being gone more than a year. I also tried Bria and found about twice as many people online. It just feels so dead.

Bria was low as well?  Some how I doubt it...

Somehow it was. I was sure bria would not have been so I created a character on bria to test. There were more people than eclipse, just not that many.

I didn't check out restuss but I imagine more people were there than mos eisley.

Can you give a source to this info that no one else seems to have? If not, what is the point of all this?  Nobody knows what will happen with this game until bioware says so. Take some adderall and chill out.

I would love to give this game a try. If anyone has a trial around, please let me know. Thanks in advance

I would really appreciate a trial pass. Thanks in advance!

I look at it this way: If you love SWG now, great!

If you hate it like Saturday night clap, I feel ya.

But saying that people are returning to SWG and all is well is a load of sugar-coated donkey poo with sprinkles.

I was under the impression that people have been boycotting SOE since the NGE/CU debacle. Guess not.

Yeah, I guess old crappy SOE is the new crappy SOE.

SOE free for 13 months and loving it.

Does SOE's move actually surprise you people who are upset by this?

SOE has a long track record of being complete douche bags. If they commit some more douche baggery, is it surprising?

Instead of complaining, just quit their games. Don't pay them one cent!
