+1 Agree, Rift with all of the settings maxed out (as well as forcing texture fixing and the other high quality settings in the gfx card control panel) is between AoC and Aion, closer to AoC than Aion (Aion has some very poor stretched world texturing). Its one of the top most beautiful mmorpg worlds, with all of the polish and details games like Vanguard are still lacking after years. They also did the texturing right, avoiding the plastic look you see in EQ2 or Vanguard. As far as I'm concerned Rift is currently number 2 right behind AoC. |

I hope you are letting Trion know on the Rift forums. They need this kind of feedback. |

The sounds are good to me. Not exceptional, but still quite good. And I am usually very difficult regarding gaming audio as I am playing on a headphone audiophile reference setup (PC digital out to a $1'500 balanced DAC -> out to a $1'500 balanced headphone amp -> out on a pair of balanced Sennheiser HD 650 headphones). That's almost 3'500 bucks just to get some proper sound on headphones, and this setup requires some very good source audio otherwise it just sounds bad as you can hear all of the details, especially the bad ones you usually can't hear on a cheap low end setup. But I have none of the problems you are having. That said, I am playing a rogue, so I have never heard a stick. But everything else including fully spacialized 5.1 sound and music is some of the best I have heard in mmos. |

AoC ok, but Everquest 2 and Wow? is this post a joke? I guess some people will complain about anything. Update your gfx card mate and pump the graphics up. Here on max settings with an nvidia gtx470 the characters look as good and as detailed as AoC and Aion (perhaps between AoC and Aion). But certainly better than EQ2 and years ahead of Fisher-Price Wow, Lotro and Co.

For once (at least since Lotro, was this the only other mmo?) we have a game that will launch in a release ready state. |

Nice! Thanks for the post Lobo, I would have missed it otherwise |

Sounds like every other mmo to me. The difference is that Darkfall is one of the rare games like Lineage 2 or EVE where at the end of the tunnel you still exist in the world with player/clan politics and territorial control. 95% of the other mmos are just a quest and character development grind and there's no politics and no world to exist in. |

Ok, but what you are proposing is not the solution. You are complaining because other players are stronger than you because of character progression, and you want to win thanks to your own skills. With this you are only adding a greater injustice to the game. Because some players, even if they play 24/24 will always be less skilled than the others. They will never have a chance to catch up. At least with DF everyone one has a chance to compete (even if less skilled or disabled IRL). Everyone can work on their character. Of course it's not perfect, but neither is a game based on player skill. DF is both. |

Then you are playing the wrong game. Because character progression is at the core of RPG games (DF is an mmoRPG). If you want to remove the character progression , FPS games is what you are looking for. |

Nope, IRL you are forced, with "very little chance of resisting it", as you said. You can refuse to go to school and refuse to work, but then you won't have much of a life. Just like in Darkfall. But in DF there is more freedom than in the real world. Because IRL, if you gank noobs you can't play the game anymore (either you abide by the rules or you get killed or you go to jail); this isn't much of a choice is it?. So looking at it this way, DF is more of a sandbox than real life.... it's just that compared to RL, DF is still laking many of the tools to play in the box. |
|
|
Again, you are contradicting yourself. If everyone would be equal it would not be a sandbox.
You want a game with your own rules: everyone must be equal. This is not a sandbox. In a sandbox all players are different. Some will be stronger than you, and some weaker. Just like in real life. As IRL, you have the choice to improve yourself to catch up to the stronger ones -> in this way you are equal.
No. Of course you can play intelligently. An intelligent player will adapt to the situation. For example, by teaming up with other players or getting into a clan. Or moving to an area policed and protected by other stronger players, etc.... just like in real life. As for "unfair advantage one person has over another", again it's just like in real life, the greatest sandbox of all. |

RL being the greatest sandbox of all, your point doesn't hold much water... |

II. It took 7 to 8 years to make Darkfall, not 6. Darkfall developpment was announced on 29 August 2001 by Razorwax. In October 2002 a new company, Aventurine, was formed and Razorwax was integrated into it. Darkfall was released on February 26, 2009.
III. And again, last expansion was in December 2009, so it took 10 months for this exp. Not 6 as you said. But yes, the strongboxes and portals where nice additions nevertheless. |

If you remove customer service and other staff, this shouldn't leave more than 20 developpers.
And it took 7 years to make the game (some even say 8). I have never heard of 6 years before. Also, we had no game update for the last 10 months, not 6... |

Yes, you will hurt your friends if you aren't careful.
There is no friendly fire toggle.
Likewise, when a mob shoots at you, it will also damage other mobs if they are in the line of sight (or if the mob shoots magic nukes, other mobs will also get hurt). |
