Today there is NO other game with such good graphics in an open sandbox seamless world with so many features : sea battles, city building, city sieges with balistas, catapults, cannons, freedom with archers climbing trees and sniping other players, etc... etc... etc... Only Vanguard tried to make such a world, and it failed. Today it's only 50% feature complete compared to Darkfall. And regarding the graphics, the Vanguard engine doesn't even support basic features like object shadows (objects like houses etc... have no shadows) and rain drops hitting the ground, ...; these engine features are available in Darkfall and they make the world feel much more real and immersive. Compared to this, the other games are only the same old linear leveling theme parks. Very limited mmorpg worlds. Since the past 8 years, and since games like UO many years ago, Darkfall is the first game that expands gameplay to really bring something new to the table. Eve is probably the only exception to what I said above; and it's something different as it's not a fantasy world. If you prefer to play the same old limited world leveling theme parks - limited quest grinding games, as it seems, nobody is holding you back. I myself am tired and bored of the same old (and years after years it's the same old); I welcome the change. Now let us see the beta and the released game in a few months to see how it delivers, and then we can talk again. Maybe we'll be happy, maybe we'll be disappointed. Until then, everything else is just bashing and trolling.

Ahh yes. After all these years there is finally something that looks like an mmorpg. An open seamless sandbox world. Finally something different from those same old leveling theme parks. Darkfall looks like what Vanguard failed to be.

The game installs and plays on vista as it does in XP, only that with vista you will have the bonus of the better dx10 graphics. I'm playing on vista x64, nvidia 8800GT.

There are many manga and cartoon games over here that attrackt the 13-14y crowd and other games for the 14-16y olds. Fortunately there are still many grown up people on these forums so we can have some decent discussions. As for Darkfall: finally a sandbox type of game in an open seamless world, and no cartoon graphics. I welcome the change. |

I was very impressed by this video. Much more impressed than WAR, which left me with no feelings. Here the action looks furious with fast fights. Archers can even climb the trees to snipe/ambush other players. We haven't seen everything, but from what I see it looks like what Vanguard failed to be, with the most amazing sea battles I have ever seen (even better than POTBS), city building and sieges etc... Of course they need to improve some of the textures, animations and spell effects (thats just some polish). And show us more on crafting (we only saw 10 seconds), trading, lore and pve. It remains to be seen if there isn't too much complexity (which would make it a niche game), but overall it looks awesome. |

Yes, Rohan is good. It is one of the f2p with the most content. The game play is very good, with fast and fun combat. It also has uncommon features like township battles with sieges and balistas, fishing, minigames, etc... Just don't forget to enable x4 antialiasing and 16x anisotropic filtering in your gfx card control panel.

Try Rohan online and Requiem Bloodymare. I think Rohan is featurewise and gameplaywise at the top of f2p games just after Perfect World. It also has township battles and sieges with balistas, and over all much more content than the other f2ps. Just keep in mind that the starter tutorial island is not very well done, the game is much better on the main land. As for Requiem, it has the best f2p graphics and is set in a horror theme. |

Looks nice, but after more than 1 year there are still no object shadows in this game. The sun is high but objects have no shadow. Completely breaks the good looks and immersion for me. Wake me up when then have finaly made combat fun thanks to fast and good looking animations. And fixed the crap jumping animations. And of course added the object shadows so the world won't look fake anymore when the sun is high. Geez, why can't the western mmos make the most important feature in their games (combat, at least for the melee classes) fun to play? This is just about animations, but these guys miss the ball completely.

Yep that's also one of the reasons I left the game. My dark templar was using the same looking armor for 30 or 40 levels (from lvl 20 to lvl 58 when I left), only the color changed (from silver to rusted to gold). Even the crafted armor was the same. Ridiculous. 1500 armor sets. LOL. What a bullshit. At least somewhere arount level 30 (?) there was a cool looking Vanir set (only dropping from mobs). But thats it. |

Same here. Its amazing how people bash games they haven't even played. Getting into the water starts right from the first minute ingame; at the starting beach there is a treasure chest near the sunken boat underwater which gives you a ring or something. And then later in the game I have to go into the water very often to take shortcuts or to get to some places. There are even some quests you can't get to if you don't go through some rivers or lakes. There are also quests sending you to collect some wine bottles and some other things underwater. These graphics are awesome. Never seen before in an mmorpg. Now give me this dx10 together with the new pvp system, high level content and the new itemization and I'll resub.

Yeah, well, whatever they do, people won't be satisfied. If they wouldn't talk about an expansion others would say the game has no future. Anyway, for now I just want the promised features (dx10, new pvp system, high level content). |

Actually it's one of the best mmorpg engines out there. (.... well, yes, the zoning is still an open question...) Compared to many other games, it runs smoother and faster with much more features on the screen. I have already spoken about EQ2 above, now look at Vanguard. Vanguard doesn't even have proper shadows (yes objects have no shadow in VG), water reflections, fog, rain drops on the ground etc.. etc... With AoC there is only 1 game that has a comparable quality engine: Lotro (and only the dx10 version, not the dx9). That's it. It just amazes me how much AoC draws on the screen with such a speed and smoothness. So if Aoc is 10 years old, 99% of the other mmorpgs are 20 years old or more? And it already has dx10 inside (even if it's not fully working yet). How many games have this? AoC is a complicated engine because it tries to do much more with dx9 than the other games do. They have built some awesome shadows on top of dx9, no other mmorpg has this (even lotro doesn't have object shadows reflecting on other objects in dx9, they use the dx10 hadware to do this). Yes AoC does much more with its engine than the other mmorpgs do. So you complain that it's more complicated to debug? How suprising. |

Originally posted by CreepingDoom Are you describing AoC? because that sure isn't the game I've played since beta. Poor launch, stability issues and crashes are abundant to this day, latency spiking through the roof, billing errors and funds being taken after cancellation has already gone through, etc.. I certainly don't agree with it being a good mmorpg, nor stable in the least, and my system is freshly built (not a walmart special).
Then I suggest you return your new system (or maybe learn how to build one properly?). Because my system is 1 year old (c2d 6400 2.13ghz, geforce 8800gt, 4gb ram) and I have no stability issues, no crashes, no latency spikes and no billing errors. AoC runs very well on my system, even MUCH better than the 4 years old EQ2 at max settings. EQ2 is 4 years old and still runs like a dog with all of the settings maxed (but its of course playable). AoC's game engine is much better, it delivers better graphics with better framerates. Compared to EQ2 (at max settings) which was tweaked and improved during 4 years, AoC feels smooth and fast. And I'm no AoC fanboi either. I'm not playing anymore since end of June (haven't subscribed after my 30 days) as I'm waiting for the promised features (dx10, new pvp system and high level content) to resubscribe. |
