Yes, of course every game has its problems. I am talking about the shadows because this is what hurts my eyes so obvisouly every time I see a video or a screenshot about Vanguard. I think the problem is that they went for very realistic looking graphics, this is why the missing things like the object shadows are poping out so obviously. I always have this bad feeling like something is missing. At night it looks great though. 2 of the other important issues for me are the poorly implemented slow/boring combat (I like it fast and furious) and the lousy animations (what is this lousy barbie doll jumping animation ????) It's not much. If they fix this, making the game fun to play with attractive/fun fast combat I'll embrace the game in a heart beat. |

For 8 years developpers have only released limited linear quest grinding theme park games. So yes, even if this was done 8 or 10 years ago, considering the same old boring crap we have been spoon fed for years, and the same old same old over and over again, then yes Darkfall is bringing a lot of new fresh air to the table (if it delivers). |

I have always played with all of the settings maxed out, antialiasiang forced in the gfx display drivers (as the crappy VG engine still doesn't support antialiasing - wow the jaggy lines all over the screen are nice, we are in 2008 aren't we ?????) and anisotropic filtering 16x. To get even better visual quality than what is available in game I have also edited the ini file to display much bigger drawing distances (for grass, trees, objects, mobs, etc...). This since beta. And I never had any performance problems with this game. And this was 1 and a half year ago, with an older PC than this one - I had an ati x1900xt512 (I have since upgraded the cpu, the ram and the gfx card). Today we are in 2008 for Christ's sake. So yes, I can play with shadows and even ,much more detail on screen. Even AoC with much better gfx is no problem with everything maxed out. Sorry, but I have to laugh hard when people with old PCs that can barely play Wow tell me "You actually think you have a computer that can play vanguard with shadows on everything. now thats funny". Yes you are very funny, indeed. |

Cities, objects,... look bland and fake. If you have only played Vanguard you maybe didn't realize it. I suggest you try out a finished game for once, and you'll see. |

Every time I see a daylight screenshot or video of Vanguard I get the same bad feeling. The world looks so fake; something is missing: where are the shadows? We are in 2008 and this crappy game engine still doesn't have object shadows. Houses, objects, etc... have no shadows... How could they release such an unfinished game? And I'm not even talking about water reflections, etc... which are even basic game engine features in free 2 play games today. I'm only asking for the most basic thing : shadows. The game looks great at night, but when the sun is high or inside buildings with lights it's so bad... |

There was absolutely no evolution; even worse, those games are even more limited then what we had 8 years ago with games like UO. I welcome the change. |

You are right on the ball there. Most people who complain about Darkfall just compare it to the limited gameplay mmo worlds they are used to. They have no idea what Darkfall is about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bYYT6Wg3Gg It took the market 8 years to finally catch on to the great games we had it the past. After 8 years of the same limited quest grinding theme parks we'll finally get back to a real mmoRPG world. |

The forums were full of people and beta players praising the game as the next messia, all over. There was even much more "AoC is the best game"'s that what we see for WAR today. It's even the same for the korean f2p games. People start playing them and praise them as the most fun games all over until they reach their first month and start getting disappointed. Wait until you can play the game for a couple months and then you can come back and we can talk. |

Only in cash shop games your know it right away and you can play for free thanks to the people who purchase items. And if you feel the need to be one of the server's "superheroes" you are free to chose to purchase what you want. |

At least in cash shop games everyone knows the rules and has the same chances. People can play for free thanks to the people who purchase shop items, and those who want to get an advantage pay for it. So it's fair to everyone. Your above point just shows once again that subscription based games are full of naive dreamers who get "scammed", to use your word. Even the >first< week of AoC's launch I have seen guild leaders purchasing hundreds of gold to build their ingame cities in one shot and equip their people with horses, etc... It's the same in every other mmo. MMO gold farming is a $500 million industry for 400k people: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7575902.stm |

Crackbone, I understand and can also share part your skepticism and worries. But given the fact that (aprat from Eve which different) during the past 8 years, at least since the games like UO, developers have been spoonfeeding us the same old - limited linear leveling quest grind theme parks, I welcome the change. Same old years after years... Darkfall should be embraced if only for what it tries to deliver. After all these years we finally have a chance to play in an mmorpg WORLD. Of course the task is huge. But until I see concrete failure, I prefer to be positive about what is (feature and game world wise) a next gen game than playing the same old same old... |

About "pvp being exceptional": the only thing that worries me is that many people have reported about the combat being slow and boring. And this is the first time I see so much concern about this for a game. Seeing how combat is slow and boring in most of the western games (vanguard, eq2, lotro, etc... compared to the asian mmos they all have slow and boring combat), but for all of these games there never was so much concern and posts about the slow/boring combat than what we have seen in these threads regarding WAR. And slow and boring combat is what makes those games boring to play for me. I prefer the fast and furious action we have seen in Darkfall and the asian combat style, or the interesting AoC style. Good combat alone can already make a game fun to play. You are talking about "exceptional pvp". Is the slow WAR combat making the game boring to play? I don't know as I haven't played it. But from the videos I have seen and the overwealming posts about this on these forums... I am worried. How can pvp be exceptional if combat is boring? (acording to all of the player reports and videos).
