I would simply reiterate that his is a lot of money for an unproven dev team to raise, and kudos to Adventurine for doing so.

I think it would be especially hard to do today, given the recent performance of the MMORPG maket. Developer keep banging their heads against the immovable wall that is WoW.

I know none of the recent releases, WAR, AoC, etc. have been outstanding, but they are having a tough time getting sub numbers that justify their cost to develop.

I think LoTRO is one of the few success stories, with a decent stable amount of subs, if not record breaking.

Other games like Tabula Rasa continue to close up shop.

It's a tough market out there.

Unless im confusing the images in my head of Tasos and the guy in that television report of Darkfall who said that it was aroudn 10mil euros as well....then Tasos is definitely not the only source that explains the financial spending on DF.

And these forums are in bad shape...actually way worse than the days before the gameplay video when it was just believers vs "lol vaporware".  Now its one of the most discussed games and the fanbois are hyped up to prove the trolls wrong, and the trolls are even more vocal because they are feeling the pinch and attack any sign of something they can show in a bad light.

Seriously if you look at every thread it is the SAME arguement.  Even threads designed to discuss updates derail into "lol its fake"  "omg you troll go away".  Pretty ridiculous.

Just going to have to wait till open beta for real discussion (not like we have ever had it for long anyways).

lol i love how all the trolls are so dense that they can't even try to stay on topic in threads anymore...this thread is about a review someone gave...maybe try talking about it?  Instead of copy/pasting the same "lol DF is an overhyped etc etc", which is laughable because it is one of the most underhyped games ever...a fact the trolls point out often as a negative thing (no communication)...hypocrits....

Anyways this quote, which isnt that new but it is nice to see it confirmed again, is awsome....

Nice to see realism and immersion comming back into the game.  Hand holders will still get the most subs...but for those of us looking for a challenge....we are hoping DF follows through.

Darkfall, as it is right now, is far from being the biggest joke...and it is only a joke at all to the skeptics.

All of those are much worse than DF and it is not even close.

That being said....does DF have the POTENTIAL to beat one of those 4...of course. It if never releases.  If it ends up being some tinfoilhat scam.  If it is so bad on release that it cant keep servers up past a month or two.  All of those are just some example of how it could be more of a joke than some of the above.

But for right now....no, not even close.

You aren't alone.  Majority of people agree with you.  It is just the very vocal minority that want any reason to bash this game because they enjoy being internet tough.

It drives them crazy that DF is comming out and that people are excited about it.

Clearly only a fraction of the member, active members, of this site have any interest in DF.  There are many who have no interest in this type of niche game, which is perfectly fine...but it just further proves the point that there are only a small small amoutn of people on this forum demanding proof of the game still.

Aventurine is smart and doesnt waste time on random people.

The vast majority of people dont follow games prerelease like we are doing.

They will wait till release and reviews before they buy.

Cmon man cut me some slack you know that isn't accurate.

First of all im assuming that number on the homepage is lifetime members, so how old is this site?  How many do you think actually check it?  How many just signed up for a chance at a beta key?  The amount of actual traffic is sooo far from what the total membership number suggests.

And i was mainly refering to the member who check this forum specifically...meaning that I doubt DF cares about the handful of posters on this forum that call them scam artists or demand proof of their game. 

Would a front page ad about a staff member review of DF be beneficially?  Of course which is why i supported that thread you made Zorvan.

They certainly aren't going to win any marketing awards =)

Their stance is the game will speak for itself.  A bold strategy and one that we will have to wait to release to see if it pays off.

However I will say that it is already working.  It is one of the most talked about games with almost nothing invested in marketing. 

I applaud them in the sense that they dont need to prove their game is real.  They know it is, they apparently have confidence in it and think that when they release it that it will speak for itself.

One thing I will also say is that before the gameplay video was released, and this forum was still mainly trolls going "lol vaporware" literally in every thread, there was a quote I think by brannoc saying "well if the game isnt real, then someone better tell all those guys working in greece to stop doing whatever they are doing"  i know i got that quote wrong but the message is the same.  And it turns out that they are and that they just dont care what some people on a forum think.

Remember that you, me, and everyone on this mmorpg.com forum make up <1% of the the people who will play DF if it releases well and gets great reviews.  So if the handful of us want to bicker about the game, they dont care.  They have nothing to prove to us.

my definition of troll off the top of my head is someone who posts excessive negative comments and/or makes posts with the sole intention of causing flames.

I never call healthy skeptics trolls...never.

Look at Zorvan, singsofdeath, etc guys like that are healthy skeptics. 

If i didnt think i would get insta reported and banned...i would post a laundry list of known trolls with links to an absurd amount of posts they have made that show that they are indeed trolls.
