I find it pretty disturbing then. Don't people have lives etc. playing other games? They can always wait. There is no reason to be like this even if it's still in development.

One could make the same arguement for the people who take the time to come in here and bash the game over and over.  Not just once, but over and over and its always just something short like "vaporware" or "this game is crap you are all fools for following it".

Can't they wait till it releases?  There is no reason for them to come here and interrupt conversation about the game and try to convince us it isnt real.  And that started before the "fanboism".  At one point people just talked about the game and all its features.  And when Aventurine decided the game was not the best they could produce, they delayed it (all games should do this but i digress) and the community has since decided that this meant it was never comming out.  It is a small indy developer and people can not understand that and they feel like the developers owe us something.

So it swings both ways.  The DF community did not start this nonsense.  It was the people who decided they have no lives so they are going to make it their business to convince the world this game should not be followed.  You had people makin alt and alt when they got banned to keep trolling the forums.  Remember Catizone?  he was all over multiple forums bashing every thread about the game.  gmny, tsituc, etc make the same statement over and over.

If we are really just stupid and followin a vaporware game, then leave us to our stupidity.  Im sure you can spend your time better.  (not directed at op)

Also, the screenshots dont look 100x better than the video...the video has some absolutly amazing scenes in it, especially since it was recorded on medium settings.

If you look at the scene where there is that little encampment on the river which is followed by a temple in the desert....you see that they are just as good if not better graphics than the screens i posted.

another off the top of my head is when they walk under the overpass and see that tree in the middle of the lake...yep again, you fail.

Sorry but you arent going to convince anyone.  Stop trying to tell us we are falling for something.  If you dont like the graphics, fine.  But unfortunatly for you the vast majority do not agree since they have eyes themselves and make up their own minds.

heh this was surprisingly more original than i thought for a response.  but still proves the point that these people just cant admit that the graphics are fine.

"oh damn i just got proven wrong"...."oh well back to the arguement that those screenshots or video must be fake and DF is a big scam"

Sorry we aren't falling for anything.  There will be no pre-orders and we get to try the game before we play.  If it is a scam, it is the worst scam in the history of scams because they wont be getting anything.

Since we have been waiting for 7 years for them to show us crafting, yes we wanted to see that. If they were just going to just have a pvp video, they should have said, here is another pvp video, not here is a comprehensive video.

Just so there is some record of this....my sig is amazing....but the Vaporware trolls just cant admit they were wrong.  In fact they have reported me for my signiture which was a Gravestone with the words "Vaporware trolls on it"

Jumpgate?  Not to knock it or anything but ive never even heard of it.  At the moment, WAR, Aion, and Darkfall are the most anticipated games of 2008/early 2009.  There is nothing wrong with the hypemeters.  Nobody except maybe a small group of kids are "de-hyping" all the other games.  Myself, I only voted on two games, Darkfall, and Shadow of Legend which i truly believe to be quite nonsense as it's a very cliche grindfest that supports mobile phones.  The concept is interesting though, it would work for a game like EVE, if I could log in to my account and set up my skill training through my mobile, I'd still be playing EVE to this day.

Anyways, the OP needs it. But besides that, gameplay > graphics. However, if the trailer showed some actual gameplay - for more than 30 seconds, combined - maybe we'd have something to judge it on. The trailer showed 17min of actual gameplay.  Everything you saw was in game footage.  Stop trying to make up your own definition just because you are bitter that DF is real and may actually come through for all the fans that are excited about it.

Naval combat showing individually controlled players manning the cannons and boarding the ships...hi thats gameplay...doesnt matter what angle it was shot at.  If you want to make the tinfoil hate arguement that it was all faked then do that, but it was gameplay.

Siege engines destroying a player city....yup gameplay.

An archer in a tree that shows UI and a knockback spell in retaliation...yup gameplay.

I could go on...but nothing will convince you.  Just did it for the newcommers to the game who may be confused since the video clearly says 100% in game footage...but you seem to believe it wasnt.

Youve signed up for OBs because you wanted to give it a chance and you had an open mind about it...meaning you were interested on some level.  Im going to give the WAR OB a shot (thanks mmorpg.com for the key) just to give it a whirl, but my main game is DF.  But im not exactly signing up for hello kitty online ob.

The increase on the DF forums is pretty much directly related to an increase in hype.  hype = interest in the game.  people signing up on the forums and trying to get into ob = showing interest in the game.

Um...thanks for confirming what i already knew?  Im a big fan of WAR...my guild was gearing up to play it until DF came through last week.  I am just way more of a fan of DF as it offers a much more deep and satisfying mmo experience.  But hey thanks for letting me know...what i already openly admited many times......

we are talking about hype, not fans.  the thread topic is about the hype meter.  just to bring you up to speed.  so saying that the increase on the forums is significant is a true statement.  So when you guys tried to argue that is wasnt, i had to put you in your place.  no one is saying all of those new people on the forums are fans...but since again the topic is about hype...those people took the time to register and sign up so they are obviously interested on some level....and that my friend represents some hype building around the game.

lesson over.  eagerly awaiting the next quote you pull out and try to twist words around to avoid admitting you were off base.

I honestly can't think of any game thats been in dev as long as this and still hasn't been played, releasing this year? and dieing next year.

Again like i said i got so tediously bored from the gameplay vid that i sorta continued to read forum posts while glancing at it. If i wanted to 10 minutes of ugly animation and style running around swinging poorly animated attacks was too much for me.

i love the nerd rage on some people. instead of just leaving a game alone that they obviously hate...they spend time trying to convince others its no good, and actually think people care.

and lol at "no gameplay footage"...you were watching 100% in game footage.  it has been played by a few fans who have visited the studio and they have written writes ups about it.

also plenty of people ahve been playing it in beta obviously.

Big compliment that now instead of calling it vaporwarez, people are attacking it for having "dated gameplay".  Hmm guess i should not buy Madden 09' because the gameplay is so old...i mean there were football games on the atari for crying out loud!

Gameplay can be old due to poor animations and clunky looking combat, it looks rediculous.  Something like a Quake mod =/.  Heck there are better animated FPS mods for hl2 with completely custom models by amateur developers.

It isn't the system itself, it's how it looks.

And to be honest, i was being sarcastic in my first post because of the darkfall fans behaviours and excuses.

Graphics aren't important! gameplay is!

and yes, There is a difference to marking down darkfall because of vaporware, and marking down another game so another has higher hype.

It's a dirty sleezy tactic to present a false hype ratio.

 

If you ever thought that the hypemeter here on MMORPG.com been accurate, then i just dont know what to say.

These kind of behaviour have most likely been happening to Darkfall more then to other games.

Darkfall stands for a change where we go from the mainstream carebear games we can see in all sizes and colours too a game with some depth to it and a consequencal gameplay where it matters how you as a player succeed. You actually have to think in games like Darkfall, a huge step forward if you'd ask me.

Darkfall is most likely the game on that hypemeter that been voted down the most by those brainwashed carebear followers.

 

Quite elitist, wouldn't you think, for a moment, that the people who hyped darkfall down hyped it down cause it has been in development for many years and they just came up with a 6 minutes video of almost nothing?

Or that people are wary that low budget companies don't deliver, or ruin the game in a way or another?

Or that people think that those kind of games incite cheating, and those who think so, think that Adventurine won't be able to face that?

I loved UO, but I don't see DF as something to be hyped about.

Or a video that amazed many people and is almost 3x longer than the number you pulled out of thin air.

Lots of people are hyped for this game.  If you aren't then vote accordingly...thats kind of the purpose =)  I know, its difficult.
