I'm assuming you mean the AoC open beta?  Check in the AoC forum.  I'm pretty sure people have posted some alternative sites for torrents to download.  Probably faster than FP public servers though I'm sure it'll still take a long time.  It's very big.

I don't mind instancing, depending on the game.  I do think a lot of MMOs go too far.  Some of the more recent MMOs are nothing but instancing.  I like wandering around and watching people do things.  It's the same reason I watch some reality TV shows.  It satisfies the nasty, perverted, voyeuristic side of me without the risk of prison.

Who preorders anyway.

I think a lot of people must.  Some places, such as Amazon, EBgames and Walmart online  have already sold out of the AoC preorders.   I've preordered games, also, if I'm sure about them.   I haven't been disappointed, for the most part.

I repeat: performance issues get fixed AFTER the beta, and beta testers are supposed to report bugs, not just play the game... Looks like Funcom didn't do a good job picking their testers...

You can repeat it all you like, old son, but this close to release, it doesn't hold much water.  I'm sure, except for alpha and some of early closed beta, they didn't "pick" testers.  They're chosen randomly by a program.

Also... just wondering... I was on Amazon this morning and did the preorder CE already sell out?  I saw them listed for $200, by private people.  A quick google seems to indicate there are no more for sale from retailers.  I wonder how many they made?

The OPEN BETA CLIENT that you are playing on is the oldest beta client, its not even as up to date as the PvP Weekend client. So quit your bitching, the point of open beta is to get a feel of gameplay.

i thought it was for finding bugs....

oh wait.... thought it was for stressing the servers....

errm....i heard it was for marketing.....

any other excuses?

Of course, if they ARE using a really old version of the client you have to wonder how that would help marketing the game?

I've reported every bug I've found and every problem I've had and have included my specs on the main forum.  I wasn't complaining, I was simply discussing.

I had a patch today but I can't find anywhere on the official forums where they said they removed the debugger. There is also nothing on the screen when you log in. I call bollocks!

may serve as a confirmation
vnboards.ign.com/age_of_conan_general_board/b22995/107214967/p1/

The debug code is definitely out seeing as how you can no longer "ctrl ~" to get to the console.

If you are in the CB, and want to find out for sure, start the game from the AgeOfConan.exe in the AoC folder instead of through the patcher.

If you still get a dos box before the game launches, you still have the debugger.

Easy enough.

You can do the same with the OB.  I still have the dos box.  I assume it is still being debugged.  Sometimes I think people just say things to say things.  The wee patch did nothing to help my performance or the performance of anyone I actually know although some people are reporting improvements.  The patch probably fixed some issues peculiar to some people and not others.  I don't know.  I assume if there's an important patch, we'd get some dev comment on the official board, no?

. I think it's fun, some don't. I do not, however, think it's completely broken, I just see some polish that needs to be applied.

So you  think a game that most people are having major stabilty and performance problems with just needs a bit of polish ? Ok, that qualifies as the boggle moment of the month.

Who exactly do you mean by "most"?  Yes there is a percentage that has issues, I don't doubt that for a minute.  However, that's not saying that it's an incredibly big percentage that far outweighs the rest of the population.  Also, lets not jump to conclusions and imply that all who comment on mmorpg.com are the entirely beta testing playerbase for the game.  Some of those people have never actually posted on this site.  Just like you cannot assume that a vocal minority on a games forums speak for a everyone.

I don't know.  Listening to people on global chat, reading this forum, reading the official boards and a couple of other boards, I'd say "most" is a reasonable word to use.

I have to admit, sometimes I secretly find all the drama amusing.  Sorry!  I might as well get everything out in the open.  I also watch reality TV.   There.

Kill me now.

Although it wouldn't matter for me as I am, by far, the slowest leveler in the history of everything, I can see why some people might be upset after paying an extra fiver.  Other games have capped the levels, but I don't think they charged you for the pleasure.

I have a GeForce 7800 GT, 2 GB RAM, and an AMD Anthlon 64 3200+ processor.  On the medium settings that were default it ran okay but sluggish.  I switched to low and it runs much better, though there are still laggy areas and some minor graphic stalls.  It doesn't look awful on the low setting, either, so I'm okay with it.

I'm not going to upgrade anything until this computer is drawing it's last breath.  I'm getting stroppy about games telling me what to do with my computer!    In any case, this game needs a lot of spit and polish.  Maybe by  that time (I have a feeling it won't be by the launch date, either)  I'll have something nicer.  Not fussed about it at the moment.  Anyway,  ,my husband is putting together a fancy shmancy PC for our main television this summer and I'm more excited about that than by ANY of the MMOs coming out this year.

BETA is the keyword to look at for all you "jump to conclusion no time to let the game mature kthxbai going to WAR" kids. I bet WAR will have the near same reaction of people saying "OH ITS GOING TO SUCK BECAUSE ITS BETA AND THE FULL RELEASE WILL BE EXACTLY THE SAME!"

Beta and full release might not be EXACTLY the same, but I bet they'll be close.  Even MMO history repeats itself.

There's a nice game in there somewhere but after playing the FP open beta and keeping in mind that this game is released in under three weeks, I expect launch to be an epic fail.  The cries of "it's beta!"  and "there's a debugger"  just don't hold water at this point.  Well, they never really do, but there you go.  If you hold your breath for a miracle patch, prepare to die because they just don't happen this close to release.

People with decent gaming machines are reporting stalling graphics,  tedious loading times, lag... flashback to AO.   There are HUGE memory leaks which Funcom seems to be blaming on the debugger, too, but I'll bet real money they're still there at release and are still the size of the Grand Canyon.   They can spin it all they like, as usual, but launch day will tell the truth.

I still want the pretty box, but I have a feeling it'll be sitting on the shelf for several months while this game cooks.  When it's done, I think I'll like it.  I may actually turn off gore though, because it's almost silly in it's extreme.  I don't need that to enjoy a game.  I wish they had been a bit more realistic.  I haven't seen nipples yet because I think they have them turned off.  I did hear, however, that they need fixing because they poke through your clothing.   How awesome is that?  It made me laugh!  I'm also not crazy about the early level clothing and a lot of the hair styles and body markings.  That stuff is really trivial, though.  Please bake this game more!

PS  I won't be unhappy if I'm completely and utterly wrong and the miracle fairy patches the hell out of it!

I don't think Funcom even has an office in the UK so I'm not sure why they'd mean BST.

I'm also a big FF fan but didn't like FF11 after the first several levels.  MMORPGs which have no solo play, are doomed today, at least in the US and Europe.  Their server populations sort of prove it.  People who are pressed for time, want to play for short stints of an hour or so, are just plain out of luck with games like these.  There is also a very large and growing population of people who just plain enjoy solo, duo and/or small group play.  I know that kind of pisses some very vocal people off, but what can you?  It seems to be what most people want.
