I guess I am one of those weirdoes who actually enjoyed leveling more then the end lvl grinds.

When you do it once, you can still try the other faction, but after that it gets boring if you like going through zones, and instances, reading the story and so on, as you have done it all before.

That is why I was happy to hear when they said that they will change all of the zones and the quests, as that would mean I can level a new character, which is what I like.

so my question is, have the zones, the story and the questlines really been changed that much that it would be a whole new eperience leveling a character?

or in more simpler terms, how much has it changed?

actually the first thing most companies do after hacking is confirmed is ban the account so no further damage is done.

if you haven't played in a month, then sure, its pointless, but if you play every day, then a ban can save a lot of things.

never experienced it first hand, but from a friend I know that when you say your account in eve was hacked, you get a "BANNED pending investigation" auto-response email.

they sort things out and then they un-bann you and tell you to get better security and stop buying gold. can shot and tackle

in eve that means its time for pvp!

expansion to eve and you put a screenshot with the old graphics on the post >.>

anyhow, there is a lot known about incarna by now...there is a shitload of screenshots and gameplay videos, and they even released trailers about it.

there was also a cool presentation about apex clothing at the GDC which I sadly missed :(

I also thought why DUST 514 isn't on the list, but then I realized its a new game and not an expansion...

And WOW2 aka CATACLYSM even has to launch in the coming winter...

no, wow2 has to have a new graphics engine. you cannot call that thing a wow2 without a new graphics engine.

that thing is so old it doesn't even notice you have a graphics card. only thing it cares for is the CPU and that is SAD!

with all the resources they have one would think they could make a new graphics engine for their outdated eve did :(

meh, didn't see the date on that.

Still the fact remains that you can buy isk.

no. you cant buy isk. because if isk was generated the economy would crash and the point of the game would be dead.

if you take the huge 0.0 fleet fights, they are all about isk. it does not matter if someone has more ships or better tactics or whatever. all that matters is who lost more isk in the end. and if you could buy isk for RL cash the game would be ruined.

you and the OP fail to realize something very important. there is not an infinite amount of plexes, and they are not seeded by CCP. they need to be bought by players first! a Russian guy tried to make an impact in a war by spending thousands of dollars on plexes. and the plex market crashed. supply and demand baby, the very point of the game.

This does the same as any other cash shop; takes out the skill and gives an advantage to those with money to burn.

No, people with skill make enough isk to buy plexes ingame and play for free remember ;)

kugutsumen still plays, he is in PL.

as far as big MMOs go, eve is the least populated by bots. admittedly i just pulled this fact out of my arse, but so have you pulled all of yours agricola.

and if you don't play a game anymore, and haven't for some time, then don't talk like you know exactly what is going an old hardcore player...with 30 mil sp?
after unholy rage hit, smart people made billions on implants. wanna know why? prices of implants went crazy after all the bots stopped running missions 23/7.
for crying out loud it was possible to get corp offices at jita with all the macroers gone.

and yes they are coming back and getting on their feat, and yes CCP is collecting info and another massive ban will come.
people need to understand that if you report somebody for being a bot its stupid to ban him. its smart to find out which accounts are connected, if they are all using the same software, how can we detect it and so on. once you have enough info, you do a big ban. same in most other games tbh.
so if you report someone and he is not gone within the hour, take it easy, its being dealt with.

yes, a dev helping his alliances is horrible. well it happens in every mmo. there are guilds in wow who know exactly what is coming in patches and expansions long before blizzard announces anything. it happens in ALL mmos. get off your high horse and stop being naive. the only difference is CCP admitted what they did and implemented a department which controls all dev accounts.
not only that, they went so far that the moment a dev gets recognized, his character gets banned. point him out on vent and he is gone.

i have no idea why you don't like the plex system, but its your choice not to like it. respect though that a lot of different people love it. i know of programmers in my corp who have high profile jobs, and there is no way in hell he would ever grind isk. he would much rather work and get real money and then sell it to buy plexes.
then again there are cheap people who don't really have jobs and who would never pay real money for a "video game". and they don't mind spending 10 hours grinding to buy these plexes.
and yeas, CCP did in a way legalize rmt, so what? they don't make the isk, that isk is produced by player and traded for the game time with other players. and trading and economy is a big part of this game. everything is traded on the market. there are people who just sit in stations and buy and sell plexes for profit.

and while your formula stands, you cant make RL money by selling plexes...well you can...just not any worthy amount :)
first of all its a BIG problem to sell them, and second of all they would cost to much. yes you could have a bot running 23/7 and make isk but those are mining bots, and mining isn't very profitable these days (not to mention every now and then they do a big ban, so if you have some downloaded software expect to be caught). in the end you would make some isk and would be able to buy some plexes, but not enough to make any money.
now a mission bot is another story. and yes there are people with those, and they have accounts running them, but they don't buy plexes and then sell them for RL money, they sell the isk for RL money. they are called rmters and are present in every game :)
and i don't see what the hell is wrong in fighting them with an alternative. since the isk is not just generated. but every month of time you buy and sell for isk is actually applied to an account and used. nothing wrong with trading of game time as a commodity between players. its not like you can buy i win buttons. not in eve. if you have lots of isk it wont get you anywhere if you don't know how to play.
and it is not possible to get any substantial amounts of isk with plexes because you would crash the plex market. this Russian guy tried, he was selling untold amounts of plexes, but the value dropped so low he crashed the market.

I mean what do you want them to do, what every other MMO is doing? not sure you noticed, but none of the MMOs out there solved the RMT problem.

and for the last time, would you stop with the t20 incident. i mean really, do you believe that all other game companies never cheated and are completely fair? and that CCP is the only game company in the history of gaming who ever did this? because it appears that this is what you are saying...and i refuse to believe you are so naive.

would be awesome to get streams, or news.

I am very interested in:
Physically Simulated Clothing by CCP (EVE Online) Using NVIDIA APEX
Speaker: Vigfus Omarsson (Lead Technical Artist, CCP), Snorri Sturluson (Senior Software Engineer, CCP), Monier Maher (APEX Product Manager, NVIDIA)
Date/Time: Thursday (March 11, 2010) 1:30pm — 2:30pm, Room 310, South Hall

anyone know of any site reporting about what is going on?

well you say you want either fantasy or scify, but you only give fantasy examples.

well if you do wanna try scyfy then I would suggest eve online (internet spaceships ftw!). it has no classes or quests or XP bars. it uses a skill system. if you wanna fly a frigate, you need to train frigate to lvl 1 for example, and that will take 5 minutes. for every lvl you train you get better bonuses, bu to train it from lvl 4 to lvl 5 it will take 7 days. you don't have to be loged in, you can shut down your PC, and your skills will train. at first skills can take a few minutes to a few hours, and for bigger ships it can take a month or two.
so you don't actually have to be there to progress, meaning you can do other stuff as well.
and since this is the progression system there are no quests are XP bars.
admittedly this system is not for everyone, some like being rewarded for their hard work, on the other hand, some hate grinds and just love this system.

the game has the best PVP ever. I mean 1000 player fleet fights are just awesome.
so yeah, its something different like you were asking for, but I think it wont work for you because atm you cant get out of your ship and walk around the stations. you can just fly different ships, and pvp in them or do industry or whatever, but you cant get out and walk as an avatar.
there is an expansion coming out at the end of this year which will allow you to do that though. I know a few people who have decided to wait until it comes out, because not being able to see their avatar walking and doing stuff in bars and so on was a deal breaker for them.

home page:

youtube channel

incarna is coming out at the end of this year and it promises some interesting new technologies for graphics not yet seen in other games.

if they really do pull it of remains to be seen ;)

wow has nice graphics cause its stylized, but stylizing does not require low polygon count. not to mention their graphics engine cant really utilise graphics cards which means you get low fps if there are to many people in a big city...

they should release a new graphics engine, with better graphics and still be stylized.
I mean its just sad to see your chest piece armor be just another skin of your body. might work for cloth, looks dumb for plate. but it is what blizzards artists had to do, because of their limitations. which are gone now, so the game could look a lot better, and still have the wow feel to it.
also no casting animations with your weapons...
it was cool to see mages spin their staves in lineage II, kinda missed it in wow...

aion and aoc also very cool.
and of course eve :)

However eve is notorious for  highlighting this kind of stuff.Anyone remember how they kept on their front page that is doing a vote for best mmorpg of the year and eve keeps on winning?

sorry, didn't really mean it in an eve context. was more in terms of this

Only people that I let know i play Games online are my siblings and my wife.
I hid my gaming habit from my wife for the first four years of our relationship (before being married) and to this day i still play it off like its something i do because im bored.
Its society, they see gaming as an activity for sub college kids that don't have better things to do with their lives and even though its become more acceptable its still sort of taboo for a grown ass man or women to play.
I find that funny since its perfectly fine to sit at a bar getting blasted for hours on end or to sit on a sofa watching tv like a mindless drone but you get shit for playing video games.

I don't like the way our sub culture of gaming is treated. full of stereotypes. so I was glad something like this came along. I really hope the attitude changes one day...

hey I agree with you. Many MMO players are indeed doctors, lawyers, judges, cops, CEOs, soldiers and so on, yet the stereotype is that of a fat kid in his mothers basement.
it pisses me of when I go out and everything is fine and we are having fun, and then I mention I play video games, and people are like wtf!?

I know it, you know it, the community here knows it, MMO gaming is becoming a lot more casual, and a lot of "normal" people do it. I just hate it when people get an idea of who you are before they get to know you, just because you said you play video games...

I thought it was nice such a stereotype breaker came along. If you think it wasn't news worthy, then sorry for your time :)

why was this not reported anywhere?

seems news worthy doesn't it?

edit: relevant links:

I hope CCP really does name a mwd after him in the end :D

you tried all these MMOs but haven't tried eve online?

i have also tried most of the MMOs out there, and whenever a new one comes out i buy it and play it to the end. normally doesn't take more then a month

but for years i have been playing eve online. its designed as a game to keep you playing for years, not as a game that ends after a month when you reach your end lvl...there is no end lvl in eve.

now i am not gonna write here why eve will keep you playing for years, you might already know the game. if you don't, and are interested, let me know, and ill write you a short summary why its a good game and why it keeps you playing for years.

here is a short trailer about 0.0 conflicts over space (ingame graphics, but at higher resolution to make it look better)

and another

have fun

they still havent fix it so  PVPers can use war declarations as a harassing tool that  destroyes  non-combat corperations.

funny, your post does not match your sig...

and yes the war-dec is broken. because as it is now you can evade it by doing all sorts of stuff, making their war declaration useless. it really only works against noobs who dont understand the mechanics.

it should be fixed so that you can actually harass industrial corporations so they have to hire mercenaries which will defend them, and not just jump corp or some other lame shit...

wow, so much wrong information here, lets clear things up.

on the fanfest it was said that incarna is being finished on and that the plan is to release one more expansion, and then incarna. CCP always makes two expansions per year, one in the summer and one in the winter. tyrannis is this years summer expansion, and incarna was promised as this years winter expansion. which means a little less then a year to go.

to whoever said that it is pointless because all would have the same sir are an idiot. CCP hired fashion designers, not game designers, but RL fashion designers, to make the clothing for incarna. they are even having a presentation at the Nvidia GDC about "Physically Simulated Clothing in Eve Incarna Using NVIDIA APEX".

as as this expansion goes CCP stated on the fanfest that the entry lvl will be very low, so new player that come to eve just for this can go and do it. planets will be divided into districts, and you will be able to control these districts, not entire planets. and you can develop these districts however you want. if you pollute for example it will spread to neighbouring districts, and you will piss other players off.
when two players get into a conflict over districts they can contract dust players to fight it out for ownership of the districts. but this will come at a later date, at the beginning, there wont be any dust mercenaries, and this will be only an industrial expansion, where you get to build infrastructure and utilise the resources.

and finally, planetary interaction will be available on ALL planets in eve. you will be able to build infrastructure on ice planets, lava planets and even gas giants. it might be harder to build stuff in such harsh environments and have people living there, but the benefits might be greater.

Eve is the exact opposite of STO's combat. Position doesn't mean a thing, it's 90% luck (who happens to be loaded out for the encounter) and 10% tactics.

so if I have scouts out who can provide me with good intel on an enemy fleet, their ship types and their most likely fitting depending on their fleet composition, so I can order my fleet mates to go into the right types of ships to counter their setups...I am lucky because as you said I happened to be loaded for the encounter?

as the poster above me said, it aint luck. people don't understand the meaning of the sandbox. its not a team-park MMO, you don't cue for a fight and then fight it out. you gather intel, you prepare, and then you fight on your terms and win. that is why baiting is so popular these days, because you get your opponent to engage thinking he is fighting on his terms.

if you lost because your opponent was in the right load-outs and you weren't, you weren't unlucky, you were unprepared.

as for the op, I have not played sto pvp, I have only seen my roomate play it. personally I think its boring and stupid. you move a massive ship the size of small city with a joystick...and then there is no death penalty...
I can understand how a fighter can be flown with a joystick, but not a ship the size of enterprise.
eve is based on that principle, you wont be directing your ship, you will be dictating different orbits and speed settings. this might not be for everyone, but the idea is tactics and thinking over reflexes.
ships are also highly customizable, so you cant really know what to expect when you engage one, and once you do realize its tactic you need to figure out a proper counter tactic, and if one is not possible, a way of getting out.

because the sandbox is huge, you get to fly different ships, so you might like some and you might hate others. I prefer flying small fast ships in small hard to catch gangs, but then there are some who prefer flying huge battleships and carriers and fighting it out on a battlefield with hundreds of other players (actually fights go out to over 1000 these days).

and that is the whole point of the game, it is a sandbox, so you can do whatever you want, but there wont be a cue for it, you have to go and do it.

final note, eve is a multi player game (obviously), what this means is that solo pvp can be a lot harder. the moment you have a wingman, just one more player, things change, because you can both fit different things and plan accordingly. so its all about group pvp.

so if you like group, tactical, diverse, meaningful pvp, where intel, preparation and tactics win the fight, then you will like eve online combat.

as for pve, eve was known to have almost none. then they introduced wormholes where you scan for anomalies, probe down wormholes, and take a ride through them to the other side. there you can explore the riches of the system you discovered and make isk, by kill the residents of said system, salvaging their loot, and doing archaeology and some sites you find in space.
but eve is a pvp game, that is why even pve, fighting against the residents of said systems, is a simulation of pvp. these NPCs are programmed to fight like players, so its pvp all over again.
once you are done, you take all the wealth you have amassed and haul it to empire space to sell it.
its a fun system cause once you jump through the wormhole, the wormhole can collapse and close behind you, so you will need to find a new one to get out, and who knows where you will get out. might be straight to empire (yeah right), might be in the middle of a 0.0 conflict region.

so yeah, there is some pve, but again, its a sandbox, you gotta go and do it.

well I heard of rumoured players with trillions if isk.

guess that's one of them o.0

that is a lot of money though...

As the 1 to 60 lvl content will be completely new to everyone - even for the basic WOW box and new players - I forsee a big boost in subs.
The absence of decent alternatives in 2010 makes for a rather predictable statement.
Present day subs = 11.5 M
Return of China officially = X M extra the moment Wotlk hits there
Relaunch of basic (improved) Azeroth = X M extra (old / new)
Wow in its new form (both in landscape and class designs) could be in a position of having 13 to 14 million subsriptions by years end.
The reason is clear and simple: lack of decent alternatives within the same kind of playing options offered by a renewed WOW.
It's the first time an MMORPG maker will not use the #2 tag upon a follow up game, it will be interesting to see the end results.

if only they also made a new graphics engine to bring the game up to date with modern standards...

a more GPU efficient engine would indeed be great...

Eve is still a full head above the rest.

But not everyone can afford to eat at the Lobster Restaurant either or take it for more than once every so often as a special night out.

Eve does alot of things very well, but one small factor I noticed hurts it. Lack of real time action. My ship flies around a target shooting its guns on autofire, which is fine, but it sure lacks the visceral appeal of a game like WoW.

But again, this is why I have been stating lately a hybrid of the 2 games would be THE game I would drop all others to play.

that was a design decision. and I can understand its not for everyone. but the idea was that it wouldn't be a twitch based game, like a fps, so you don't win by having better reflexes, you win by being smarter and having better tactics. though when you are in a fight things are still going to fast ;)

as far as the excitement goes though, no other game will give you the adrenaline rush that you can get in eve. people who say fights in eve are boring have obviously never tried to pvp.

fleet battles can get your hart pounding really fast, one to one fights even more so.
and here is why:
