In the end it doesnt matter what any of us think, if one enjoys it, perfect, a happy customer, if one does not, oh well you cant please everyone, and that is the ONLY fact that matters here. No matter what a company does they will not create a game that will make everyone happy, period. Bioware was trying to create a game that would be reasonably fun and make some money at the same time, have they done this? most likely.

What I am really tired of on this website is all the folks out there expecting companies to make them a game that will somehow "change thier lives" or "make them whole" its kind of pathetic acctualy. These are video games guys, if you want a real sandbox expierience go outdoors, climb a cliff, ride a mountain bike, learn how to cook...for real....Im sorry but more an more mmo players are just looking to replace thier lives with a game and its sickening.

Yes and no.

Yes - it's an entertaining game for 30 minutes each evening for a few months.

No - there is no reason to PvP unless seeing your name on 'top 50 list of players' really turns you on.

For longevity, Eve Online wins.

LOL since when did eve seep into this thread? ROFL as if this game is at ALL competing with eve for players, the games are nothing alike in any way. I like eve, but blatant fanboi'sim like that is pretty lame dude.

Welcome to your first MMORPG OP

You're kind of pretty off here and you got Internet Cool -debuff.

I've been in MMOs since EQ1 and got over 10 under my belt. And I've been in every major P2P MMO launch since LoTRO.

Wanna try again?

Kinda see why people aren't exactly lining up to help....

Anyway, I just tried mine, no issues. Have you moddified any of your files? I know that some were doing it, could cause issues. If no dice, I'm sure a fresh install would cure, no?

I know I sound pretty pissed off, cause I am.

I've done 3 fresh installs from disks. Read tons of text on the official forums. Done ticket and responded to their "help" thread.

I would understand on some degree if this wouldn't be a corrupted file/archive problem (so it seems, because the installer doesn't accept the MD5-checksum). Well, I just need to find more IP addresses. They must have a working version on some of them.

EDIT: And yes, it's their update servers. Announcement

thier announcment states the problem on thier end has been fixed, the problem is now, on your end.

its working fine for me, sorry to hear you are having trouble, maybe check  official forums instead of coming here?

I don't care what people think about TOR, there is no way it deserves a 0.

Why not?

If somebody paid 60$, played it for a couple of hours, didn't enjoy it at all, found it to be the same boring quest-mill with awkward cut-scenes on every step, why shouldn't he gave it 0. Or do you believe, he should be thinking in terms like "Well I totally dislike the game, but maybe someone else might enjoy it, so I'll give it 6 or 7" ? I rather think that the user reviews should reflect personal subjective opinion on the game, and not personal subjective opinion on what should be the objective opinion.

it doesnt deserve a 0 purley based on the fact it works right out of the gate, unlike most mmo's released over the last 5 years. Your bias is showing like a bright neon light, thanks for coming out.

"user reviews" are biased garbage. 99% of the people that posted there made thier minds up when the game was in alpha, nothing but tainted trash. Ive played it, it may follow the grain pretty close but its a solid game that shows alot of profesionalism and polish. To be honet with all the launch flops over the past 6 years with broken games coming out every 3-4 months, its VERY nice to find a game that acctualy WORKS day 1...

Agree with poster above, SWG even with all it's flaws is still better IMO than Tor, I had my fill in beta and it just wasn't my style.  I'm sure it will draw a huge following but it's sad that SWG is now gone forever all because LA didn't want the games to compete with each other.

Pretty much this.

TOR is nothing like SWG. SWG, even in its worst days, was a damn enjoyable thing and a sandbox, TORcraft is...welll  world of torcraft is world of torcraft.

TOR is nothing like KOTOR, to the point it should not even bear the same universe lore nor the sign of old good bioware.

its sad SWG could not go on. LA did a really cheap move hoping to capture "star wars" players into torcraft with this. All they did is cement my resolve to not touch TOR. And I am sure I am not the only one who will be avoiding the WoW2 as a plague.

lol as if wow was not a "clone" itself, these comparisons are getting VERY tiresome, thanks for another thou, it was a great contribution.

TOR should really just concetrate on the PvE story-telling thing that it does.. and it does it well.

The PvP in the game is truely laughable and was probably added just so they can advertise that you can PvP.

This is not PvP...

its just as "PvP" as wow, and people love that....for some reason...anyway. I bought the game for the story, an the PVE exp. PvP has always been a far FAR second though for me, i PvP in battlefield 3, where its not twitch based skill that counts but acctual tactical skill...

I was......and I say WAS  interested in this game because they talked of RVR(realm vs realm) I have been looking everywhere for information and most of what I've seen is talk and promises and video snippets.I'm not willing to invest $60 on promises.

The main game is ...another PVE game....shinier....bigger, newer

The missed opportunity is the RVR   realm vs realm 24/7 persistent world conflict. The movies I say of STAR WARS.......conflict  between good and evil was what is was all about .The best conflict there is is whan you fight other players ...not in those childish repetative instances mini game but 24/7 persistent conflict over territory control etc.

great idea for you, go play eve.

so last week on the 8th i decide to purchase swtor..thinking yeah i,ll get in late.maybe not get in early access at all.my first problem came when i didnt receive the key i was supposed to..when i phoned my Tesco entertaiment website to ask where it was, they told me they dont have any keys because bioware could,nt be bothered to send em to Tesco..good start bioware.then whats even worse is while i,m having a conversation with i can only describe has a really nice guy, something clicks..i aint even getting the game sent either..they had no problems taking my money, but when it was time for them to deliver, big letdown.so me being of older persuation didnt kick up that much of a fuss.i said to the guy..is there anyway i can cancel this game..mainly because bioware lied to me.and i dont mean the early access thing..ffs i cant even set up a sub.so because the british mailing system is like the rest of the world at christmas they guy cancelled it from there end..moral of the story is..dont trust any company when they say they want to look after the people and let them enjoy what they have paid for..lookily enough Tesco got me my money back and i thank them for that.and tesco gave me £15 to keep me happy..i think mainly cos i was so polite with them.

what i would like to say is all those that purchased SWTOR and got in ok..good luck to you guys, hope you enjoy the game..has for bioware, you are on my blacklist along with EA.oh and if there is any misunderstanding about the early access thing..in the advertisement its promised early access, not might get early access..here is the link

LOL if its this easy to dissapoint you, id hate to have you in a raid. To be honest im perfectly happy you'll be staying in your lovely f2p mmo's. My pre-order access, along with thousands of others, went through without a hitch. Your expierience is NOT the norm as much as you would like to make it sound like it it. Thanks for coming out.

if anyone has a 60 day trial invite, Id love to see whats new in eve, havent played in years.

yeah its doable, I spoke toa  few people in the beta weekends that were playing it under bootcamp

Over the years call of duty has just gone down the tubes, im sorry but in terms of MULTIPLAYER, the battlefield franchise is spanking cod 6 ways to sunday...

For what?.the game does not need mounds with the teleportation system that it offers.

the teleportation system is what separates GW2 from other fantasy mmo's,Anet proved it

with GW1,there's no need for mounts.

they proved it? its one of my gripes with the game LOL nice try thou.

the LG seems to rate the higest arounf the web, but to be honest they would probably all be good choices. Vizio has established itsef as a good buget brand, but id consider sticking with the LG personaly. or the samsung if you want a #1 brand name.

Im sorry but I dont think either of your concerns are that big a deal, voice acting? I dont see how that is a problem at all, if anything it ADDS something to the game that most do not. I found voice acting quite fine in AOC.

Chain quests, again I fail to see how this matters. Pretty much all modern day MMO's have them, and if anything they provide A reason TO quest. endless, pointless quests with no great rewards would not intrest me, but a chain or even an epic chain with big rewrds at the end, these acctualy give me a reason to go through it, not only that the chain quests in SWTOR will be story intensive and make them that much more enjoyable.

The art of story telling in videogames is something that has been a little hit and miss this past decade, but bioware has time and time again done an AMAZING job at it, im quite looking forward to this game.

I wanted to chime in a bit here on the voice acting bit, since you mention voice acting and storytelling in the same post.

Voice acting, cut scenes, storytelling... that means I'm not playing the game.  I'm watching it.  I'm a spectator.

If it were a case of ordinary NPCs talking to me instead of having to read it - that could be interesting, as long as it was not a cutscene.  Heck, if I could talk to the NPC and the NPC talk to me... would be trippy as Hell, am I right?  There is a world of difference between walking up to a NPC and them asking you what they can help you with (as opposed to reading their text) and being in a cutscene.

This also goes to storytelling.  Games should have a story.  It is not a story that should be told.  It is a story that should be experienced.  You should not watch it.  You should drive it or at least participate in it...not just witness it.

disagree 100% the voice acting, for me adds and extra dimension. When you are watching a videogame, its kind of a broken expierience to be reading text the whole game. when we watch a film, are we forced to watch captions the whole movie? (other languages absolved) no, we get a voice to the face, it only makes sense for them to introduce voice acting to interactive story telling.

theres no way that 9600 is alowing him to play much of anythign at max settings right now lol

honestly? this thread? really?

ITS STAR WARS

you're welcome.

This game is not a sandbox, nor were people ever led to believe it would be, MOVE ALONG...
