Star Wars: The Old Republic: Will SWTOR Be the Last Big-Budget MMOG?

I haven't read all posts, so I'm not sure, if this has been mentioned, but the VO's in SWTOR is made by actors that have a contract with BW and is on their payroll.
They got loads of actors we've heard before, like Bastila in KotOR.
I think all the VO's will have a positive effect on the game, because they aren't just monologues (sp?) with the NPC talking forever and sending you off. It's a conversation where you respond with a reaction and get a reaction on your reaction. Making it more dynamic and giving you a choice. (How big/small can be discussed)
The lines of dialogue can always be debated, but in essence, you choose a reaction/emotion and your toon says something related, even though it wasn't exactly what you thought he would say.

Wow Thanks for this man. Read up on some of them and "Face of Mankind" is honestly giving me a buzzing feeling in the guts!
Sounds awesome, time to see if it really is as good in game as on paper (or on screen text if you would put it that way ;)
Thanks once again :)
EVE is a really nice and deep sc-fi game, if it is something for you.
There is a free 14-day trial, and I definitely recommend it.

This is actually making me reconsider coming back to WoW, if not for a long time, then just for a little while.
When I made a switch from NA servers to EU servers I lost everything, and I never really got back into it because of the "Solo is better" attitude most people have/had. This will definitely up my experience and make me go yuuuppii :)
Going to resubscribe tomorrow if time allows it :D

This is gonna be good! I like love what CCP have done with EVE and that it is more of a world then a game. This could be a game I would get really into! Thanks for that info. I had no idea about that. :)
Double Post.. Never mind me :)

Ehm no? He shouldn't do that. You do know that bot developers read, right? That would be like giving them an account that can't be banned..
Good luck to the OP though. Have fun.

ooh yeah! I totally forgot about TSW! Has there been released any info about gameplay and the like, anything else then the trailers?
Would love to read up on the game, but as I understand they are gonna launch in 2012, so there is a fair bit of time to that :) hehe
Does it exist?! As far as I know, it doesn't, and this post will be written as such. (English is my second language so I hope you guys can understand what I mean. It shouldn’t be too bad though, since I ran it trough a spell check before posting)
I've recently got a very high interest in the series (Supernatural) and I think it’s awesome, and it got me thinking.
Why isn't there a MMO around that utilize this kind of "fantasy"?
I think it could make a awesome MMO world. It doesn't have to actually be Supernatural, but in the style like it.
I imagine it as a classless game, where you can specialize in different stuff; via Skill trees (I imagine it as Pre-NGE SWG skill trees)
(Maybe the more you play the game the higher your Skill point limit becomes. So let’s say you've been playing for 2 years you'll actually be able to have 2x as high skill point limit as someone who just started out, so you seem as a more experienced "hunter")
Here is a few of the ideas I came up with, just braining, while watching almost the entire 3rd season today.
Let me start with a little explanation of the world and game. (For more info on Supernatural: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernatural_%28TV_series%29 )
There are 3 major factions, so to speak, in this world. The Unknowing I am totally in doubt about as I actually want it to be more than just regular people, maybe we could call them "Disciples"?! Anyway you'll get my drift, I hope, later on.
(I am kind of playing with the idea of having sub-factions as well. Because, you know, us humans, we can never agree on what to do even if the world is ending. But I would rather have them to be player made if that could be possible)
The Hunters, The Unknowing and The Unearthly (For a lack of a better name)
The Hunters, of course, hunt The Unearthly, which is basically the Good vs. Evil theme.
The Hunters is humans, who have decided to stand up and fight against the demons, abominations, werewolves and other creatures that lurk in the dark, to protect the greater good of mankind.
The Unearthly (which I imagine is entirely NPC controlled. I heard a bit about Aion and how they have a NPC faction that balances things out if 1 faction gets the overhand. Don’t know how good it is, how it works or anything but it sounds good.) is doing everything they can to take over the world, because they, well, think Hell sucks.
The Unknowing, and this is why I am in doubt of the name, is everything from people who are using witchcraft to achieve certain things, knowing or unknowing that, in the progress they hurt other people (Of course those who decide on the tree of witchcraft will know that it hurts people and don't really care), It also counts for the people that work for the highest bidder. (Kind of like Bella if you have seen the show) Or people just heading around for their own personal goals/gains/reasons.
Now for the game side of things, I guess. (I will mention some classes, which I will describe later in the thread)
Humans would be the only playable race, because the story plays out in a modern world.
I imagine this game to be group based, so that’s why most of the classes aren’t “cookie cutter”, and you actually need others to progress faster and more efficient then a solo character.
Armor would have nothing to say, in the big picture. Of course you will be able to get some leather armor, but not many people would want to walk around in that. It would simply attract too much attention.
Cloths, weapons, artifacts and amulets on the other hand there should be LOADS off, so you can go nuts and look however you want. (With Amulets, Artifacts and Weapons actually have “stats” depending on what ammo is used, how its blessed, what runes is used, etc etc)
Quests are the big thing in this game. Some might not like it, but I think it could be awesome!
Basically, you hear a story, read a newspaper, talk to a “Lore Expert” or a random encounter tips you off that there is something out there. Then you have to look for clues, maybe go back to a certain someone you met earlier and talk about it. You could maybe find a piece of fur at a “Crime scene” and don’t know what it is, and you send it off to your fellow “Lore Expert” and/or “Artifactor” to find its origin, and how to get rid of it.
So mission areas have to be instanced, kind of like how Matrix Online did it. You go into a building, but then you take an elevator up to your own instanced place of the mission. (Though most of the time it will be haunted buildings and the like, I guess)
There needs to be NPC “Lore Experts” but they shouldn’t know as much as PC’s and they should also have a fee (PC’s can do this too, and raise it, depending on how good they are)
I doubt there will be much PvP though, even though I enjoy it. I guess you could make it possible for PC’s join “The Unearthly” and help demons and have some PvP battles that way. Either way you have to either tag yourself at a “Master Hunter” or “Master Demon” or go play on a PvP server.
Then, of course, you would have to hunt Hunters instead, but The Unearthly is known to be manipulative and treacherous, so you could hunt other Unearthly, I guess. (This needs more thinking. Input appreciated for the fun of it)
There will be NO healers. It just wouldn’t fit the lore (if it indeed is a pure Supernatural MMO) Healing Potions & Med packs should be available though. This game is about resistances more than health. (I need to come up with some smart thing with healing somehow)
For trees, you could start out with 4 basic classes (and I am thinking about making a 5th class which specializing in village building, house schematics, politics and so on)
Of course every basic and advanced class should have a "master" which would give an overall boost to all abilities/bonuses you get in that specific group of trees.
(Some of the trees I came up with pretty much explains themselves, so I won't go to deep into them)
With Hunter tree you could specialize in 3-4 ways, as described below. (Wow while writing this I totally redid the whole system in my head.
With the Spell craft tree you could specialize in 3-4 ways, as described below;
With the Explorer tree you could specialize in 3-4 ways, as described below;
“Artifactor” (For a lack of better name)
With the Merchant tree you could specialize in 3-4 ways, described below;
“Amulet & Potion Craft”
Sorry for the wall of text, but this have taking me like 2 hours to write and the ideas just came along as I wrote it!
Discuss and input would be cool! This is my first idea of how to do a MMO and I think it’s pretty decent. Of course you would need a whole lot more. I know that, but if it were to be a Supernatural MMO, you would already have the lore and the setting.

Great, Great read. 1 of the better articles on this site.
About the "No Russian" Mission I never saw it as anything else then a game. Actually my friend and I got quite the rush out of it.
It's been ages since a mission like that has been seen in gaming, if it ever have.
I went crazy and blasted everything in my way, shooting the ones hurt but still trying to get away. I had fun, like I should have..
It's a game.
I wish for TOR to kinda bring some kind of "evil" decisions into a MMO.
BUT, since its Star Wars and Bioware, it won't get that much attention, like this game has, because we are used to it from them and it isn't "real".
We can then continue to argue if MW2 is "real" or not. In my opinion, It's not.

This thread is the best thread ever posted on MMORPG.com
Great read and lots of stuff to think about..
All I know for sure though, is, I will be out getting so wasted, doing weird stuff, with the all the people I care about, having the day of my life, 'cause, true or not, "the end of the world" is a great excuse to have a blast and do all the stuff you never would do.
I might see you around ;)
I will definitely go for Dragon Age. It looks so freakin' amazing, imo, and I am really looking forward to it! They released a character creator a few days back and I've been playing with it all day, while listening to Infected Mushroom's new album, but thats kinda off topic. hehe
I'm gonna get borderlands down the road, but Dragon Age is what I am looking for atm.

Seriously! How awesome would it be to be 1 of the best mercenaries! Just going around for the highest bidder (if they decide to do that) and be totally awesome! ... I wanna be that guy!
Guilds, actually fighting over who gets you and when they see the opponent got you, they just think.. oooh shite!
If that really happens I am SO there!

In my opinion this game is extremely fun and very strategic, if you get a good group going, that is.
I got into beta for about 5 hours ago, via my Curse Premium, and I haven't been able to let it go before now, because it's 3:45am in the morning and I got stuff to do and places to be at 8:00am. I'd never heard about it before, so I looked up on their website and thought "Hey, thats awesome. I want to check it out!"
An average match is 30-60 mins long, which, I think is the perfect time for a little match.
ooh and this game got the best item shop ever!
They got all tons of stuff! That leet gear and stuff!
Seriously, I love how the store ingame is builded and how it functions. You got 6 inventory slots, and you got a recommend items (for which ever character you're playing) so thats a great starter until you get the hang of things and make your own Item combos.
But remember you only have 6 item spots and some items take up to 3-4 lesser items to create, so you have to make those first or you'll be stuck in 1 of the "craft sections" (I dunno what to call it)
You're called a "summoner" and you summon "champions" to fight for you in each map. You control 1 champion in each match. You can level that champion up to 18 in each match. It will reset when the match is done.
You have a ton of different "champions" to summon/play, so thats awesome! Never gotta stick to 1 class for 100+ hours again! (unless you choose to)
My love at the moment goes to the champion, Sivir. She has a Ricochet Blade which I think is awesome and she is great for dealing dmg to several opponents at once. You just gotta boost her attack speed, with items, and your good to go! She also gets this great ability in the later lvls, where she boosts attack speed 75% to all nearby allies! Works wonders when your trying to destroy the opponents nexus, which btw is how you win a match.
The game is great, but you'll have to deal with the occasional "leavers". Which is quite annoying, if I might add. 3vs5 is not really that fun! (even though I've managed to win 3 matches where it happened it ! Yay!)
I've never played DotA, never thought about it, and never will, so this game isn't only for "them"
Keep looking out for this thing, if this is what can keep you entertained.
Sorry for the lousy grammar and writing in this thread, but I'm tired! :P hehe
After 2 hours I logged out and toke a little break, I got to lvl 8 or something. I got annoyed/confused at all the quests I had at the time all over the damn starter Island thingie..
I logged back in a hour or 3 later and got to lvl 10 and out of the starter Island, and dang I'm kinda hooked now..
I actually didn't think I would be, but I dunno. Especially with flight. I was like meh, when I heard about it, but it rocks. I think the animations is awesome and already at lvl 10 I can feel battles is starting to go faster and get cooler and cooler..
Love the skill animations for my assasin.
It seems the more I play it, the more I like it. Now I'll see in the next few days, if this is the game I want at least untill TOR (Well gotta try that too, but I WANT to at least give it a chance)
I also like the graphics and on my gamer laptop with everything maxed, 4x AA it looks great! Plays smooth and I haven't had any lag what so ever yet, and people is all around. Love the customization available as well.
I just wish people would take a happy pill and get over themselves. This might be 1 of the reason I won't play.. No one talks, and so far I haven't been able to get any help I was looking for. The community I have met so far, is a community I really wont bother playing with. Had a random group with someone who just invited me, and normally I don't accept it, but I did because I couldn't handle it alone. No words from him at all. Silent as the grave, but playing just as a Duo, gave the game a whole lot of life, and it looked awesome.
Time will tell I guess.
Relax.. I'm sure they've been hit with masses of players around the globe..
They'll fix it. Login servers are down again. They are most likely working on it.
EDIT: We have the servers up running, just need to sort out account access in our databases so that you can log in. From http://twitter.com/aion_ayase
login servers keep coming online and go offline again.
No EU servers up yet, but 2 NA serves up, and they've been for quite some time.
Same Error I'm getting.. They're getting hit hard as hell right now I bet.. like thousands of players trying to log on at the exact same time. Who knows if the system can hold it up :) hehe At least the login server is working now..
