OK, I played just after beta in WWIIOL (this seems to be the overwhelming topic here) and stayed on for 5 years. The initial had seperate servers for different areas and that had distinct disadvantages. VOIP made zerging a server too easy.

The visual range in WWIIOL is da bomb. The graphics suck however they compsensate with "realistic" weapon performance. Nerfs are a hot topic in that community. As for the community itself, it has degraded due to gameplay "features" that made being in a squad/clan a bigger pain than just being a cat to be herded. So much for commoraderie.........

I've heard rumors of Ubi doing something like this and they have advanced in some aspects via Theatre of War. It's RTS but they have in essence created the ground war that the IL2 series lacked. In the same fell swoop they revolutionized RTS gaming. Killer graphics, awesome sound effects and a fog of war that's actually believable. Maybe when things advance a bit further we'll see a nifty new MMO that can keep the dream alive and the shoebox shooter fans quiet.

The guys I game with have spent the last 3 years or so just itching for a new MMORPG based on WWII. In teh mean time we kind of kid ourselves thinking we're entertained by a host of other games...

WWIIOL/BE is without question a game above and beyond all others. Where it lacks in eye candy etc it over achieves in immersion. You find a WWIIOL game where the action actually means a little something and is never ever the same no matter how many times you fight in any particular city. You can fly in a variety of planes, drive a host of different vehicles, man many kinds of direct fire artillery such as AA guns or AT guns, patrol the rivers or English channel in the navy, or hit the mud as infantry and get your ownage "fix".

If you think you're gonna master this game in a few hours forget it. It takes time to get good you're going up against 5 year veterans in some cases. If you really don't know what an R35 or Bf110c actually is then you're probably gonna need some time to learn. Give it a whirl. I guarantee that if you're yearning for a chance where you actually get a chance to see if you've got what it takes to be a player in the toughest MMOG in the world, this is it.
