Honestly, the beta is supposed to be a way of making the game better before the game actually launches, and as we saw with Tabala Rosa, rushing to conclusions from the beta can kill a game before it even gets started, even if they have made significant changes to how the game plays bedore release.

You cant compare one game against another until it launches, and saying one game is old and dried up Madonna and the other is pre-crazy Brittanny Spears, seems kind of exessive. Comparing the two games at this point is counter productive.

And one more thing: If your in the beta for Rifts, shouldin't you be playing it and giving bug and quest comments, instead of here talking about the beta like its an extended free trial?

Sadly I am one of these people who took press releases 'kind' of seriously... I knew most of the press release was bunk. but I had no idea the extent of the Founder/lead developer/CEO ego issues.

The fact that said people are quoted for things they have not said, is just scary. And the fact that its necessary to massage one persons ego so much in a press release is just frightning...

And we all know about the 'new features' talked about in press releases. Its kind of sad really. A developer could have a 20 minute conversation about a conversation they had about possible ideas they had for an expansion, such as flying monkies coming out of the behinds of PVE cheater. The next day the boards would be lit up by why this was not in the game yet, when is this feature going to be added, and people screaming bloody murder and threatening to stop their subscription if it is added.

Your just in a no win situation when you talk about any feature, what is a absolute known quantity today could be impossible to implement tomarrow. Happens all the time and no amount of explemantion will ever stop the forum whining about it though.

Funny aside, the part about no coufounders being mentioned, reminds me of the EA mess on wikipedia a while back.

Some emloyees at Eletronic Arts were "cleaning" up the wikipedia entry for EA.: little things like cutting out all the referances to contraversies that EA had been involved in... and revising history by editing out all referances to the original founder and CEO of EA..

I never have been able to figure out why they did this or why the new CEO would want all referances to the past CEO (who did not have any contreversies under his leadership by the way).

The only reasion I can come up with is Sanya's: He (the current CEO at the time, they have a new one now I think) was a giant douchehound and ego maniac that could not handle referances or acknoledgement of anyone else besides himself.

So Sanya I have a question for you, why do these founder/CEO/Lead producers have this ego problem? You wrote press releases, why would they refuse to talk to you and then have a hissy fit if you forgot a title or mentioned another founder type?

And luckily I mostley only by games by Bioware/Blizzard/Cryptic, companies where if any employee or founder is stupid enough to make themselves known to the public, they are beaten, flogged, humiliated, tarred, and feathered, as is proper and just.  :P

Wait. Are you saying that people do not have the willpower or self-control to not click the ad, or are you saying that the mere presence of an ad that people may consider juvenile is unbearable and that it is beyond a site visitor's ability to just ignore it? I mean, it's not gore, it's not porn, it doesn't make sound. It just has the word 'nuts' in it.

Are people really that thin-skinned and weak that they need to completely remove it to avoid suffering the traumatic experience of their eyes accidentally falling upon it?

My point is the hypocrisy of Straddon's statements. He says its a bad thing to use Ad Blocker plus, as it will hurt the site. Then he states that we just should not click on the ad.

Ok so lets say that we are strong enough to resist the urge to click on the ad (sarcasm). The add and the 'nutshot' are still there. The basic problem of having to see the add is still there, And before you comment further, you as well as everyone else knows that they eye is INSTINCTIVELY drawn to movement, so even if your actively trying to ignore the ad your eyes will wander over to the movement from tiem to time.

What I was trying to get across was that Straddon was being a hypocrate. You can't be disproving of a feasible and legal method to avoid questionable content, when your the one who approved of said questionable content, or refuses to give people other options as to avoid said content.

These ads are aimed a certain market, most people who come to sites like MMOrpg.com tend to have grown past the point where 'nut'  and 'fart' jokes are laugh out loud funny anymore.

I use to be Adam Sandler's and Will Farrell's biggest fan. I grew up though and that kind of humor just does not appeal to me anymore. Heck, when I was 7, if someone farted I was on the floor with laughter and the entire day all someone had to do was mention the name of the person who farted and I was in tears from laughing. Now it someone farts I just want to get out of the room...

You want to have it both ways and thats just not right. If someone is complaining about an Ad, you as a editor/site manager have the option NOT to put those kinds of Ads up that offend people. If your going to anyway, and then go out of your way to tell the person to avoid such ads, I really don't think its proper for you to then complain about a program that does just that.

Its like a cop I know. The sidewalk is covered with debris from a construction site. Instead of getting the construction people to clean up the sidewalk, the officer sits in a small nook and waits for people to walk into the street since they can't use the sidewalk. Then he gives them a warning or a ticket, and tells them that they should avoid that street.

And now the only other route to the area is a congested bottleneck of people, and the stores along the street with the construction are complaining about the loss of revenue, but no one seems to want to bother the construction company who are causing the problem in the first place.

Sir I respectfully state that you should not be complaining about a program or programs that will ultimately hurt your site, when instead of addressing the actual problem you tell people to just go around it.

People are doing JUST THAT with said program. So now the balls in your court, you either do something about the add or stop complaining about those people who take proactive measures to avoid it.

You shouldnot be telling people that doing something to avoid something they dislike will hurt you, when you refuse to do something about the thing they dislike.

Again this ad is YOUR issue Stradden, its really not fair to dump your baggage on us when you refuse to deal with the issue, other than to say: "Don't click on the site".

I actually feel a bit sorry for Marvel right now, there main competitor has a decent looking MMO coming down the tubes (if SOE does not ruin it), and the MMO they were having made attained a different but popular superhero IP.

So not only are they late to the ballgame. They aare on the wrong field and have an team of reletive rookies they are fielding, against SOE who has done MMOs for a long time (but always manages to much things up), and Cryptic, the guys who singlehandedly brought about the superhero MMO genre....

I know its not Marvels fault but still.... even after Microsoft left, they could have chosen to let Cryptic keep the IP, I mean they were willing to use their own money to develop and buy their own IP.... Marvel could definately have worked something out.

If my memory serves me corretly Vanguard was tailored for the Hardcore. That was their base audiance.

And even the hardcore reviewers and critics suddenly figured out why WoW was so popular after they played Vanguard a while. When even the hardcases are saying "Uhmm I know we wanted oldschool but this is to oldschool" then you have issues.

Both Conan and Vanguard were tailored more for the hardcore gamer than the rest of the gaming public.

And look what happened: Vanguard is barely staying afloat and Age of Conan better get their act together really soon or Warhammer Online and Wrath of the lickking will destroy it.

The problem with hardcore is people get use to things. Your Grampa may talk about the 'good old days' a little to much, but he sure as hell is not going to give up his airconditioning, Plasma TV, superior medical and phone technology.

No dice for me either. I was told by a pretty reliable source that not everyone who got the collectors will be in due to system configurations and such. Also, that some of the emails may come in the next few days.

Its still rather distressing though. Its like being 5 years old and invited to a birthday party and having to send a present ahead of time. Then you find out that before the party there is will be a special event, that all the other kids got an invitation to.

I feel like that kid. And its easy for someone else to say "Its no big deal you still get to go to the open beta"< Most of those people saying that stuff have their codes and letters for the closed beta.

To be absolutely honest I feel more than a little slighted. I paid my money as well. Why no invite? Not everyone can afford a new computer every year but mine is not horrible at all. I'm just a tad upset about the whole damn process.

And if someone says "Its no big deal dont worry about it" I want them to give up their beta code and invite to someone else. If they are not willing to do that then they are just full of it and need to keep quiet.

I do not yet have an email from mythic even though my beta center says Im signed up for the collectors edition preorder.

I am starting to panic...

Its one thing to say they are busy and have lots of the things to send, its another when you see 12 pages of people who already have their letter and are downloading the client.

Who do I email or call to get my letter post haste? Do I have to call gamestop EB? Email Mythic? Because I'm freaking the frag out here?

Of those in this thread who said they would try this game, how many of you actually like it?

I just wanted to know the general opinion of the game before I consider downloading it.

Thats a shame, i just started to get interested in the game in the last few days and, then i find this thread.

I play no more MMO's until I try the Trial first, it saves a lot of time and money.

And yeah I'm cheap, not everyone is made out of cash, and its wintertime... its Tabula Rasa or Natural Gas, and Tabula Rasa wont keep me warm on cold nights, or give me the ability to cook on my stove.

So I would rather try it then purchase. when I get the money.

I blame the credit spammers, I've noticed they 've quieted down lately since they too probably can't find more keys after getting account banned 5 seconds after the initial advertisement by a GM.

 

Unfortunatley they currently (I think) Let anyone who joins MMORPG.com get a key.

Which is unfortunate because I really wanted one.

If a game is not specifically made for PVP from the get go, it generally takes a long time till its worth playing.

And honestly the only PVP game that I know that most people don't have an issue with is Guildwars. And thats because from the get go it revolved around PVP.

And does every major MMO have to have PVP now? Because in my opinion you really need to either:

A) Focus completely on PVE

B) Focus completely on PVP

If I want to PVP I go to either GuildWars, Eve, City of Heroes/Villians or (when it comes out) Warhammer Online.

I really want a major MMO with the fortitude to be just PVE, but everyone wants to attract as many people as possible.

Honestly everytime a game does a balance tweek, somebody gets pissed.

If even half the people who claim that 'this is the most horrible patch ever" actually did leave WoW, then the game would have collopsed years ago.

And comparing a patch tweak, no matter how impact it has, to the NGE is like comparing a freshwater pond to a salt water ocean. Sure they are both water but there ends the difference.

The NEW GAME ENGINE was just that a new game engine with new mechanics and new graphics, almost the entire game had been REWRITTEN.

Where as the entire core gameplay of TR is still there, just now players and mobs are tougher. Did you even play SWG? There is absolutely no comparison.

To the Op: This will happen every patch, people will get pissed no matter how good the patch is, if sometlhing they like is changed then the crying starts. Even if the something they liked was game breaking or a bug.

Check out the WoW forums sometimes after a patch. Every time a game bug is fixed... "I can't play my class, because such and such , and the bug compensated for that, and now I have a useless class.."

Its always the same old song and dance. Just stick it out till the next patch. And the next. And the next. If your going to complain about games getting patched and tweaked I suggest you get a console and some Old school RPGs.

Remind me to avoid rolling a 'toon on your server...

I don't post nearly as much as I use to because I hang around the Warhammer Alliance forums. The developers post there regularily, like they use to do here when Richard Mythic was still around.: www.warhammeralliance.com/

I kind of hate to say it, but Mythic has done what they said the y would not do and have 'favorite' sites they like to visit. Which is why so many people wanted a official forum instead of fan forums... but thats another topic/thread.

And this topic comes up there fairly often and I must say, even the most 'innovative' new MMO is generally based on its predecessors.

Look at WoW, all it did was stream line the MMO genre: It took a Honda and turned it into a 'rice rocket'. Not innovative but appealing none the less.

Its kind of like walking, there may be other ways to get around, but eventually your going to need to walk once in a while. Its boring but reliable, and fun if you have the right company

I gave you two links about dwarves for Warhammer fantasy banner, both official. if you had read them I would not need to explain this.

See the short beards are only on young dwarves, they never ever ever ever cut them,.

Even Slayers dont cut their beards. I am sure they will have short styles in the game, but the beards will get longer. much, much ,much, longer.

And before I start sounding like some lore crazy idiot, you have to understand that beards are a BIG part of the dwarven character in 40k.

If you notice Orks always talk about how they are they biggest and the greenest. Dwarves always talk about there beards.

And honest to god i was not ignoring you but the articles I linked did give you all of the info, I really did not think it would be necessary to write that those were adolescent dwarves, gain the article I linked was official and did state that dwarves NEVER cut there beards. So it seemed kind of obvious to me that you would get the idea of why those beards were short...

Anyway the only reason I made a big deal about it was because well ingame it is a big hairy bearded deal.. as I said, unbearded dwarves just don't exist in Warhammer fantasy battle, there are no models in the last 30 years of tabletop of a beardless dwarf, not even as a joke....

And I should not have made a huge deal about it but like I said you may as well have said 'I really wish orks were pink with stripes"

Its not going to happen and its not even reasonable to ask it. And honestly for someone who spends so much time in a forum for a MMO, you would think you might be interested in the actual IP the game is based on. to each his own.

Heh dwarves without beards would not ruin my immersionm, remember I mentioned Dark Sun and I loved that campaign setting.

I was just saying that your request seemed a bit ridiculous considering the fact it was Warhammer, it would be like asking for Elves without pointy ears.

Heck they have already broken Warhammer lore repeatedly for 40k, I was just saying that you wanted them to change an iconic racial feature thats been around for 30 year.

And I see from your last post that your not really into warhammer lore.. there is a class of outcast dwarves and they are called Troll Slayers, they basically run around naked with axes and attack the biggest thing they can find hoping that it kills them.

But being dwarves they still try to win the fight... and the reason these dwarves becaome slayers is for some act of lost honor... the most common of which is losing a beard (As in the War of the beard? See where I'm going with this?)Thats why they went to war, the diplomat was shaved by the elves and became a slayer, thus pissing off the Dwarven king.

What bothers me is that no one bothers to research the IP. This is not DOAC 2, you cant go by that MMO to judge Warhammer..

And I'm being serious.. If Mythic was doing a DND game on the Forgotten Realms, would you expect 10 foot halfling if they were in DAoC? Or red Drow if they had them in DAoC? Probably not.

That is my problem with your comment your basing a completely different IP and race off of a game with a completely different setting...

Just like there are no female orc models (except the one that was made as a joke some 15 years ago).

Even in that article by GW it states that they NEVER EVER cut or trim their beards. Not even the outcast.

There is no such thing as a beardless dwarf unless they have been shaved against their will, not even the chaos dwarves go unshaven. Its a pretty standard feature of the IP...

If you don't believe me merely go to any Warhammer table top forum and ask about beardless dwarves... my reaction will seem tame, and next time check up on the IP before making judgements about it..
