I admit, I am a video game and MMO novice; I have only beee playing games since the ZX81 came out, and MMOs since UO (although I only dallied with that). My main MMO experience is limited to EQ2, WOW, CoX, LOTRO, DDO, POTBS, GW, and Vanguard. I in no way consider MMOs to be my main video game experience. I have installed countless patches in RTS, FPS etc.

So, from this admittedly blinkered perspective, I I have never experienced a game in which patches were quite so consistently poor - in that they broke so much with every patch, and made such elemental mess-ups (improving catacombs.. oops - no one can actually zone in, there's an oversight).

But I am certainly willing to be corrected. Has any game in history been quite so abysmal at patching?

If only they would use a authentication to their websites to authenticate games and serials they could maybe slow down this. Just like an MMO does, we all know an MMO can't be pirated unless your talking about playing it on an emulator which is not the same thing as the real game.

Oh, you mean like Steam? Sorry, all pirated.

See that button at top that says "Game List"? It works wonders.

Let's see:

I've played AoC.

I've been in the TCoS beta for over a year ( that's all the NDA allows me to say ).

I haven't played WAR, but I've seen the videos.

Out of the three right as of this moment, WAR will win.

- they replaced the hairstyle i used for my character

- new skills for every class... they're lv100+ though. some seem interesting

So, IMHO, it's definitely better than the my-en version. I just wish the ping would be a bit smaller. Since I played the game before, i knew what to expect from the game itself. Yeah, i do like it.

15ms ping for me.

I gotta say, if Laura were here, she'd be awed that the only threads on this forum to have no trolling, flaming, back biting, or derogatory remarks are the ones in tribute to her. That says alot for her in regards to these forums, I think.

Nope, but they're one of the ones that deserve it.

I swear, if any of you other people leave, I'm taking my ball and I'm going home!

Pffft

Most servers aren't cracked versions of the developers server software, but rather pure 100% emulation. Meaning the client can recognize and take commands from it.

I personally support the swgemu.com project because it brings back an old game that was taken from us, and surprisingly its more stable than the server software SOE used. In the case of active games though, I don't see the point. The people I know that play Ragnarok private servers usually do it for socializing and epeen purposes. Most emulated servers are a horrible shell of the true game that kids who can't get their parents to fork up for it play and pretend its significant.

SWGemu is illegal, period.

Lucas spent a lot of effort creating that world.  He has the sole right to using it.  Creating a game using jedis, the entire SWG world, without his consent is pure robbery.  I do not belief you have grounds to justify SWGemu.  If SWG owner decides not to create his SWG onine in a certain way you like, that does not give you the right to steal the SWG content and make your own game.  Codeset is not the only issue, its the ownership over the SWG world.

The game SWG is changed in a way different from your apsiriations.  That does not mean its taken away from you.  You never own it.  Lucas provide a game environment (with SoE) and you agree to play in it.  When they change it, you have the right to stay or move.  You are pretending that you own that SWG and that they illegally change it, stealing someone FROM you.  You are stealing from them when you play a private server, not the other way round.

I still love my first days in SWG, before the CU.  That does not justify me looking for a private server, and that means I do not agree with what you are saying or doing.

Too bad your 100% wrong here.

The short version of Why, How many bands do a cover of a song. Tons. My band can go sit down and cover whatever we want, you know why? Cause we arent making a profit!!!

As long as your not making money off of it your free to write, play, or do what you want with the information people give out to the public.

SWG, WoW, etc. did not give out their code to the public, so your analogy is fundamentally flawed. Come back when they publically declare their intellectual property abandonware and hand out the source code.

Their code is not being altered. That is what you clearly cannot seem to grasp. Emu teams recreate backend servers entirely from scratch. Typically, the clients are not altered in any way and it's the client itself that is the gameworld that the player sees and interacts with.

Emulations are not illegal and therefore restricting discussion of them has no basis. But, as I mentioned before if/when this thread gets locked then we can all move on. In the meantime, what gets discussed (allowed or not) isn't anyone's damn business. Stop trying to police forums you have no authority in.

I have the same authority as anyone else. You are posting in flagrant disregard for this sites rules. Don't like the rules, don't post. How hard is that? What, you can't pull off the teenage rebellion schtick in real life, so you try to play it here?

Thank you for making my point for me.. You have the same authority here as the rest of us.. Exactly none.

I don't much like this particular rule, and I will post anyway. It's not for you to point out rules and lash out at others for the content of their posts. When mmorpg.com feels you're worth a crap, they'll hire you. In the meantime, those burgers aren't going to flip themselves, and yes.. I would like fries with that.

Good one. Get the local kindergarteners to help you out with that? For all you know, I could buy and sell you. 'Course, I probably wouldn't make a profit, but oh well.

Hehe, I had the option to buy a lifetime subscription for this and Lord of the Rings Online.  I've seen several MMOs die in the past, and I knew that it's a huge risk to pay for a "lifetime" subscription.

Except those who paid for the LotRO Lifetime sub are already playing in their free time now. So lifetime subs do indeed work and are a great value if they are for games made by real developers.

Let's look at what everquest had to offer at the start. And then look at modern mmorpgs.

Let's look at what EVE had.

Let's look at what World of Warcraft had.

None of these games had working PvP or Endgame at relese, in WoW's case it didnt have anything remotly close to pvp, no arena, no bg nothing. WoW and EvE been working on it's shortcomings true, and is now a if not wellrounded game then atleast have most common pvp in place. So if someone like the games atmosphere I don't see why people shouldn't wait for patches and fixes and content?

People can't expect a mmorpg to be relesed having perfect content like games with years upon years of continuated support, and gathered revinue.

So people should just calm the heck down.

Perhaps you should relax and go play your game, if it's so great? Then you won't have to worry about what's said here.

Who's rule is this? Why is this rule in place? For what purpose does this rule of being unable to SPEAK of this serve?

Sounds like a bunch of crap to me :P
